He really was outstanding for us, a game changer for the club. I know he hasn't been great this season, but, it's disappointing the disrespect some here have for him

It will be a sad day for the club to lose one of its heroes - no doubt. But it will also be sad to see a few of the others go too. Gomez has been around forever and was given a number of positions to play in and always did he best. Anytime he got a good run in the team he delivered well. Injuries were a curse for him but never a whinge, a very good pro. Ali the same, kept us in so many games when we should have lost, injuries curtailed him more recently but any forward that got to go one on one with him came second more than they should have. MacA if he goes will go with the recent 'his legs are gone' to the fore but he was central to our play when he was on form. Chiesa ran and ran for his 5 minutes of fame but was never going to really do the business but was loved by the fans who sung his chant with pride. Others may go too, as is always the case but this year feels different, Mo in particular is literally irreplacable for what he has done for the club. Hopefully injuries subside more next yeaar and those that come in hit the ground running.

Last year there was rebuilding to be done but moreso this year in lots of ways. Surely things can only get better.

With more comments coming out now about how the players and staff tried to cope with the loss of Jota and failed miserably perhaps it’s ok to write off this season and go again.

It’s an unprecedented incident and should be acknowledged as such.

Hopefully Slot has an easier start next year. In his first season he had a few issues with players returning too and that didn’t seem to bother him so a World Cup year should be an excuse.

I'm definitely prepared to have this attitude if he does stay. I do think change might still be best, but would be happy to be proven wrong

Is it time to retire the Jota 20 minute mark tribute. Never forget, but stop pushing the constant reminders on the players who actually knew him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭esker72

You'll probably get slated for raising it but have to say I've thought the same for months. Maybe move it to the end of the game before or after YNWA. It's got to be impossible for the players to not be distracted from the game. A huge amount of what made the team great over the Klopp years was mentality so it stands to reason that they'll be massively affected by what happened and a constant reminder in the middle of a game probably isn't helping their mindset.

I'd say it'll come to a natural conclusion with the end of the season

I know what you mean, and after the season is probably ok to stop - but in reality I’d say it functions much more as a reminder for us than for them… I’d say they’re experiencing many such visceral reminders every day, and in more intimate tangible ways, to where the presence of the applause maybe isn’t having as comparatively strong a reaction for them as it is for us.

    End of an era tomorrow.

This season's debacle has been a hint that that's the case.

Watching legends leave the club will hammer it home.

Planning has gone in of late regarding the Jota Memorial , it's installation would be a fitting transition from the 20 minute tribute

I'm a heartless **** but sometimes it's better to move on. We won't forget him obviously but no need for that in my opinion.

    I actually can't believe I wrote that

Two always fit die hards leaving, for no reason whatsoever. Both great assets for next 3 seasons

People do it all the time. You can't mull over a loss forever. Many of us have lost close friends, but you don't sit and think about it other than the yearly anniversary. Months mind just after it but that's it. We have a reminder at 20 mins every game. As Toby said, time to retire that.

I'd love to be over there today.

It’s obviously different for us as fans than his teammates but I think people use football as an escape and, not to be unkind, don’t need this in their life.

I think in part it’s why they are fed up with Slot and they want to put the whole thing behind them and start fresh.

Apparently Maxence Lacroix from Palace is available for €40m in the summer. Anyone think we'd be in for him. He's pacy and experienced.

Are we in danger of going into rest mode for this game ? Everyone wants some tribute to Salah and Robertson. We still don't have CL confirmed. It's a 6 goal deficit but I reckon Bournemouth will beat Forest and we will get a hockeying by Brentford today. It might be squeaky bum time as the 90mins approaches.

So all reports say Wharton is in advanced talks.

Wharton, Diomande as first team starters and then Bowen in as a squad player to cover the front 3 would be a good start to the window.

Wharton and Bowen help with the home grown quota.

It'd be a start. Definitely provides different options for us in the midfield/RW. West Ham aren't relegated yet though. Bowen has the air of one of those Millner/McAllister types who could thrive in their 30s. That's not a cheap set of players to be getting though, and we've at LEAST 3 more 'ready for 1st team' players needed (FWD, LB, RB) in order to look in decent shape.

Especially if we lose Joe and Jones.

But I reckon we'll not get any of those 3 unless Slot goes.

I'd be very happy with those signings. I'd prefer Anderson over Wharton but that's not going to happen. Wharton just turned 22 so still plenty of upside and we need someone like him to link up the attack and defence. First time I've looked forward to watching a match for ages but assume I'll be taking that back within 20 mins!

Between TNT Sports, Sky and Premier Sports, I make this the first season ever where every Liverpool game has been available live, legally, in Ireland.

Yeah it's been a crap season but not having to search for dodgy streams or radio commentary is a massive step which brings us closer to the US and rest of Europe who seem to have already had this option (bar UK who still have blackouts)

We need to go back buying young, pressing, determined players, not the Wirtz's of this world, give me a Mane, a Firmino, a Robertson, a Gini, a Henderson, a Salah
