Joins in April 2027 for £1m subject to visa

    Goes by 'Samu'

Hard to judge from any clips as they're all underage games but hey, it's a new signing

I really don’t know how he has been given so much time at the club considering he’s been injured most of his time here. I know he’s still only 21, but I’d hope he’s a world beater for the club to have held on to him. Whenever he gets into first team squads, he will be under serious pressure to perform in short time.

Would like to see it work out for him, he obviously a baller with huge potential.

I'd imagine it's a slim chance he'll ever make it properly at the club now.

He's under contract and has been pretty much injured through every transfer window. I'm fairly certain if an offer came in it would be considered. But its almost impossible move on perma injured younger players.

Had a very run good on loan last season with Las Palmas, and was fit all year for his spells with them and Salzburg, which I think renewed the club's hope he could be of value. Which he can, if he can get past his injury issues.

We'll get a better sense over the summer where he's at… if they reckon they can get a handle on that, then maybe he stays, otherwise I presume they'll sell, or loan out again with a sale option.

Yes, he's an exceptional manager by any standards, but, obviously his City connections make it impossible

Incoming Robbie Keane has just resigned from Ferencvaros 👀😂

It's our own fault,he was a kid and we ran him into the ground, playing repeated 90 minutes over and over in a light midfield . It destroyed him,a player of great promise

I agree with a lot of what you say, last summers recruitment was bad on so many levels, but, probably the worst thing is that now selling clubs are going to expect us to overpay for players like we did last summer. We ain't getting any bargains anymore! In the past most of our big fees worked out and hit the ground running, both Witz and Isak still have huge question marks.

I'm not sure it'll effect the values that much… like, the fees were huge, but so were profiles of the players involved. Isak should've been going for huge money, Wirtz should've been going for huge money, Ekitike should've been going for big money the next tier down, Kerkez at 40m was valued fine for arguably the best LB in the league that season.

How well they all worked out is a bit moot, as their costs at the time could still be reasonably considered as market rate, so if we go for players this season the negotiators can still justifiably hold to market rate. We did the same with Alisson and Virg, paying big for elite level players, and then downshifting again to smaller outlays on lower profile players without any real issues.

Hes coming back to finish the job he started as a player for us 👀

Didn't he say that rather he'd rather win a ballon d'or than captain Liverpool, win a champs league with Liverpool or win a World Cup?

Think Tuchel's comments confirm that's why he was left out.

“I can assure every fan in the country that we have 26 one-hundred per cent committed players in camp...committed to the idea of team spirit and being unselfish".

Watchd Istanbul on Netflix. Not a bad show. Moreover it brought back the memories of watching it in London with a bunch of friends and the sheer carnage in the bar at the end. When you look at the team Milan had, we should have had no chance at all. Throw in a 3-0 ht lead and it is seriously unreal that Big Ears came back to Liverpool that year.

I always felt we overpaid for both Wirtz and Isak, for that momey they really needed to be hitting the ground running, like waiting on Wirtz to bulk up shouldn't be a thing when you pay that money, same with Isak, we knew he wasn't going to be fit as he had no pre season, so straight away you are sacrificing the first few months ( plus he's injury prone anyway), but, having a slow start at a new Club after a huge fee can weigh players down and they can subsequently find it hard to recover.

Look at Ekitike in contrast, pretty much hit the ground running, and even when Slot inexplicably dropped him for a clearly still unfit Isak, he still generally preformed well. I'm all for giving players time, but, when fees go into 100 million territory, they need to be working out from the get go!

I suppose I've always felt the money for those 2 in particular, could have been spent better on the wider squad, I was of that opinion before their disappointing seasons, obviously I hope they turn it around next season, but, I wouldn't be too convinced they will. I'm not doubing their footballing ability, but, are they suited to us and in Wirtz case the league.

Gas Rafa's take on his first meeting with Gerrard Carra & Owen compared to the players.

Hamann was living some lifestyle for a pro on the ciggies & grog.

Sad seeing Alonso's contribution & where he ended up since

Whatever about the prices paid, they were both in the very top tier of global players, about as high a profile as one can have… like, no-one was going to be getting either of them for less than a hundred million. So while it was a lot of money in both cases, I don't think it can be used as some precident to fleece us (which is my point)… and in Isak's case, his fitness issues were BECAUSE of our interest, so that was a rod for our own back, but there's no way they were letting him go anywhere for less than top dollar for a lad who'd just absolutely dominated the league (and dominated us, and in particular Virg, in a way no-one else had).

And for sure, for over 100 million you want your players to hit the ground running — but that's not really something you can legislate for beforehand. I expected (and still expect) both to be superstars for us, even after this unexpectedly super weird first year.

Next season will tell a lot, if they aren't doing it next season then it's not looking good, no real excuses. Like the point is when we bought VVD and Alisson before for top dollar, they instantly made us better, so straight away everyone could see their value. You can't say that for either of the guys currently and both we knew weren't ready for the start of the season- Wirtz had to bulk up more and Isak not fit, like those are red flags for deals that big, which heaps pressure onto those players when nor preforming straight away. It's more the clubs fault than the players

If Isak can stay fit he can do it, as he has proven in the league before, but ,he does have an injury prone record which is why his fee was too big, there was literally no one else prepared to pay that fee. As mentioned before paying 100 million for a player that needs to bulk up is ridiculous, and that bulking up has an affect in how he plays, possibly dulling what attracted us to him.

All of that is after-the-fact stuff though… when we bought them, those are valid prices, so I don't think will affect the prices we see this summer.

As for the two lads themselves, Isak's fitness issues are a big worry alright. He's been class for years though, so I've no doubt he'll be class for us if he can just get/stay fit. For Wirtz… I'm not even sure how much he has to bulk up. He has to strengthen a bit alright, which he's already done to an extent — was notably much stronger and fitter in that mid-season purple patch where he wasn't getting pushed off the ball anymore. He seemed to regress a little after that, though I think a big part of that was the upheaval of the team… he looked at his best when there was a reasonably consistent set of players around him that he could link with. You don't need bulk mass for that, so much as just improved core strength, so I don't think we have to worry about his game changing. He's famously an incredible pro, so really looking forward to seeing how he develops over the offseason. Was very impressed with how much stronger he'd gotten by late November compared to when he joined.

Have we any odds on a plan with a banner for Sunday yet ala 2015?

Ornstein just drop one. Liverpool are in for Yan Diomande. If the player is up for it club to club talks will begin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,768 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

What's after the fact stuff, it was known Isak wasn't fit coming in and had an injury prone history and Wirtz needed to bulk up or strengthen up, that's all upfront stuff that everyone knew about or at least the club should have known. What happens after they join- Isak breaking his leg for example, can't be helped that could happen any player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,769 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Looks a very good player in the few games I saw him in this year and I'd expect him to be an very good addition if he did join.

I would say the rumoured fee is massive and he would be a risk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭CajunSurprise

I doubt it will be anywhere near the quoted price if it is to happen and I could see Elliott head the other way in a separate sale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭giveitholly

He has only made 22 appearances for the club and played something like a total of 990 minutes. Maybe my memory is poor but I don't remember him repeatedly playing 90 mins for us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,018 ✭✭✭McFly85

Dunno if many were saying that Wirtz needed to bulk up when we were signing him tbh - it became a thing after his first few games, which honestly is a crazy amount of impatience. He joined at 22, so obviously he’s nowhere near the finished article. How we would help him develop as a player was apparently one of the major reasons he signed for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,768 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

It's something the club should have known, he was/ is a slight player, the EPL even before this season was known to be physically more demanding and intense than any other league, but, really went into overdrive this season- fair enough the club might have not anticipated the league to get even more physical, but, they should have taken into account if he was physically ready for the league, which he wasn't.

I'm just saying when you pay 100 million for a player, he needs to be ready from day 1, it's different to taking a punt on a player for 30 million ( even that's high, but, nothing in today's market) and it not working out

There aren't that many players in the history of the game who have gone for 100 million or more, so any player that does is going to be judged to a higher standard!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭John arse

How much would he have been if he was the finished article then I wonder?🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,018 ✭✭✭McFly85

I don’t really agree that 100m+ should mean instant impact or they’re considered failures - it’s just the market rate for high rated players these days. It’s not like signing him meant we couldn’t afford other targets.

From the clubs perspective I’m sure he’s considered a very low risk investment. A young superstar that can sell plenty of shirts that we’re really unlikely to lose value on. Bayern would obviously love to have him so at worst I could see us letting him go for close to what we paid with a couple of years left on his contract. I sort of expect Bayern to be his next club anyway, and how much they pay depends on how well he does.

It would be great if it was an instant impact, definitely - but he’s definitely not an albatross around our necks, and if we can help him realise his potential we will have a serious player on our hands.

I certainly wouldn't be judging Wirtz too harshly considering how shite everything has been this year.
