You're hypotesis is wrong. FSG are serious people who have a long and successful track record of buying and owning sports clubs and with their own money on the line they don't make flippant or ill informed decisions. If they did they wouldn't be successful.

So Elliott is going to win himself a Europa league medal.

I think at this stage no matter who is in charge next season, we are going to be in for another hard slog of a season. An awful lot of damage has been done to the squad, confidence and morale is on its knees and possibly divisions within the playing squad. Appears to be a lot of senior players wanting out especially if Slot stays. Tbh if Slot stays I wouldn't be surprised to see us have a season like United had last season, down in the bottom half!

Replacing Slot is the only way I think we avoid a complete disaster of a season, of course it depends who would come in, as that's anyone's guess at this stage. We can't afford an exodus of experienced players, we need to hold on to players like Alison, VVD, Konate, Jones and Gomez, while the new players settle in, (rumours of all those leaving). We obviously need to buy well this summer on solid players both first team and squad depth, no crazy fees like last summer.

If we get a new manager in, I expect a slow start as he goes about repairing the damage from this season, but, would hope that as the season goes on, we would improve and have a clear and obvious gamelan to follow with full buy-in from the whole squad.

Watching the Robbo video that was on the clubs channels earlier, that's what is missing.

When was the last time the club released footage of the current squad like we used to get?

Delighted for him, some consolation to a terrible season for him, would be good if Emery threw him on for the last 30 mins.

FSGs own money on the line 😂😂😂 they bought the club for 350m, it's valued now at 4/5billion, the one single time they put their own money into the club was a £100m odd loan for the stadium expansion and they had to backtrack when it emerged the interest rate on the club was higher than expected. David Moores was a silver spooned clown who ran the place like a corner shop but he actually fronted up the £10m for Dirk Kuyt himself. FSGs own money on the line, thanks for the chuckle

If ever there was someone who deserved an end of season pick me up, it's Elliott. Delighted for him.

That content is all upbeat happy stuff though… I think they couldn't release anything like that in the first few months after Jota's passing (not to mention the parade attack!), as it just would've felt weird. And then I think it was very hard to release that sort of stuff later when the vibes are bad and the team was floundering so badly, as it just gets flooded with abuse about the lads laughing and having a good time instead of working hard with their heads down. It's nonsense, but that's the reality. Sure even that Robbo video on instagram is just riddled with Slot abuse.

Thanks to the way they’ve run the club, we don’t need them to put their own money in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,242 ✭✭✭Enzokk

You will need to walk me through this, guy who owned the club who tried his best but allowed us to fall behind our rivals which meant he sold us to two cowboys is good because he spent his own money on a signing. He only had to do this as the club was not performing off the field to our potential.

Current owners are bad because they have not given their own cash for signings but they have built up the club to be one of the best run in the world and where we are competing with the biggest clubs out there off the field. Do I have that right?

Fair play to Harvey able to celebrate that after the season he had, just an example of how professional he's been and how well he handled his time at villa.

Hopefully it works out better for him next season and gets to play because he definitely deserves more game time.

The lad has only ever given his all. I always loved his response to the question about not getting picked for the matchday squad during the Championship season and he responded that if he wasn't in the squad and didn't get the 5 games for a medal, he'd still be on the Kop with the fans because that's the best place to be.

''In those crazy days of Klopp v Pep, you could barely afford to drop a
point. Robbo knew that. He fought for every ball, every minute, every
point. We’re going to miss the mad, brilliant bastard''

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,553 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

With Villa winning the EL, and with Villa heading away to City, 4th is very much up for grabs, and its give Brighton, and Bournemouth a CL chance, as both can finish 6th. You'd think Pep will get a winning send off, so all to play for .

Reading earlier that we have 3 leipzig and another foreign player lined up, why oh why cant we buy from English teams and players who are used of this league like tonali, Anderson, Gordon, seymenyo and olise before others bought them, same as even sarr and mateta, big fast strong physical players who know the league, not weak skinny foreign players who may never settle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,524 ✭✭✭brevity

we need a few terriers for sure but where they are from shouldn’t matter.

    Rumours on these two:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,768 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Interview here with Robbo. Really gonna miss him - proper legend and a key driver behind a great era we had over the last 7 or 8 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,622 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Anderson is hardly a big fast strong player? 5 ft 10 and apparently 3kph slower than Kerkez.

He's more of a Mascherano. Reads the game well, is dogged and intercepts like a man possessed though and will surely cost over £100m.

Tonali, Sarr, Olise, Semenyo and Mateta are all foreign players.

I've no idea what point you're trying to make but retrospect and hindsight are hardly any use at this point. It's the next Salah et Al that we need, not the last.

Anderson is not fast. No. 1, and No.2 he has a €100m price tag on his head, Tonali would cost even more than that.

The reason we go into the continental market is because Premier League players carry huge price tags and are massively overvalued a lot of the time.

As the poster above pointed out. Its the next Salah, Fabhino, Suarez etc we need to find in the marked. Newcastle have apparently €120m price tag on Gordon. Are you going to tell me there's not better value somewhere else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,528 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Gordon has been poor in the PL the last two years too, just 6 league goals in each, and even fewer assists (less than Gakpo, who we’re trying to replace). I like his pace, but that’s a huge underperformance for the money asked. Wouldn’t pay more than ~40m for him, which won’t happen.

I think that poster wants us to go back to signing Premier League proven… like Isak and Kerkez who were both literally in the PL team of the season when we signed them… (now, despite their cost I do actually have faith they’ll work out in the end, but it’s so expensive and the PL thing guarantees you very little - it’s just perhaps not the path to follow for new players)

I do agree we need more pace and physicality though, ideally found outside the PL. We’d been scouting Rayan for instance, who instantly hit the ground running at Bournemouth - that’s the kind of talent we could do with pulling the trigger on a step earlier if they look ready.

Yes of course they would be over priced for sure but these players are proven premier league performers, but alas we cant keep spending 100m on players all the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,528 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

premier league proven guarantees very little unfortunately… there’s no shortage of players who were great at one PL team and then poor at another. Being smart in our transfers is what got us where we’ve been, we need to go back to that. PL guys if the value is there (Gini, Mac Allister, Robbo), otherwise looking more broadly.

Good point. But - if a contract had been agreed but FSG felt they couldn't or shouldn't announce it, that would speak volumes and not be much of a show of support or stability. Anyway, fair to say we know very little about what's going on behind closed doors, and that may be the correct way to do things, but I expect all the action to happen in the first six weeks of next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,988 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

But the PL is littered with expensive players who were "proven" at one club, and not cutting the mustard at the next. Just look at the greif Kerkez is taking this season. And we was the best left back in the league last year!

If I had my way I stay clear of players from other PL clubs for the time. There's some awful prices tags getting bandied about currently for some quite avaerage players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,552 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Just on semenyo, how good is he when we have to try break down a low block and there is no room?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,297 ✭✭✭54and56

FSG own the club, of course it's their money. They made an investment and they've grown the value of that investment by making (mostly) shrewd not stupid knee jerk decisions.

Answer me this. If FSG sell the club for the £4/£5 billion you've stated who do you think the buyer will be writing the £4/£5 billion cheque to?

Given you don't understand the basics of how investment value works I assume your "WealthyB" username is some sort of sarcastic self deprecation?

I haven't seen anything in particular, but Bet365 have made him the new favourite, slightly ahead of... Eh... Arne Slot
