And going back to what I have always said - there is an incredibly large number of people who are unable to think for themselves.

Is the real problem(crime) that Ben Gvir was caught on camera doing this ? If there had been no video, and Bibi got word of what Ben Gvir did, would he have still saw fit to issue a statement condemning it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,961 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Believe it or not, Ben Gvir actually uploaded the video himself. Not entirely clear who it is aimed at, but presumably hardline far right Israelis rather than international opinion.

The reason Zionists are in meltdown is they hate the curtain falling away and the international audience seeing the hateful and extremist version of Israel and not the heavily sanitised one we are used to seeing.

There's an element of this, yes. Netanyahu has faced international scrutiny and he's managed to piss off the Americans on enough occasions to be put back in his box by Trump.

Now a video has come out showing how they treat detainees, and the question now is if they're willing to do this on camera what will they do away from it.

The fact Mike Huckabee (US Ambassador to Israel) is pissed about this isn't a coincidence.

But we continue to get wishy washy statements along the lines of "we are not happy with this" etc.

Sound bites do nothing. Israel is laughing at all these nations who have been condemning them now for years, yet that's all they do, talk. They continue to do illegal things, and in fact are getting worse.

Israel won't change until something causes them pain. It's time they were treated like south Africa when it was an apartheid state. Time to sever all links with them. Cut all trade, refuse to play them at any sport. All Nations should be getting together and getting a plan sorted asap. To let this continue with just sound bites saying "stop this" isn't good enough. Need action.

It may cause us a bit of pain financially, maybe get us thrown out of a qualifying campaign etc but this is too important to sit back and let it happen unchallenged.

    Well.

16 resolutions against Israel since 2015 versus ZERO against China, Saudi or Qatar doesn't sound entirely objective - and those are “well respected” countries without any “heavy sanctions” but then who cares about the Uighur or Jimmy Lai right? To choose two versions of China’s complete refusal to respect human rights whether of whole groups or of individuals. I find it hard to believe they’ve done NOTHING significantly problematic in over a decade.

It seems Murphy/Boyd Barrett are Irelands last hope in this case. Need them to become Taoiseach to save us. Their latest anti-Israel bill was rejected by the government.

Disgusting coward. Fair play to the brave and honourable activists. Hopefully the EU find some courage somewhere now.

I ask the pro Israel ostriches - why is humanitarian aid for Gaza still such a threat? Just another breach of IHL.

Do you admire the government for their inaction towards Israel? Do you actually feel good cheerleading the blocking of food to children?

What do you want the govt to do in fairness? They've been to the forefront in the condemnation of Israel. The Israelis have withdrawn their ambassador, they hate the Irish govts stance.

This Irish govt bashing is just as ridiculous as it gets, rants for the sake of ranting.

Well they could start by being bloody honest. If they don't plan to ever pass the OTB, then say so and shelve it. They are 8 years waffling about it. It's a complete sham. We all know they will never pass it so admit it and move on. It's a bullshit distraction/excuse and it makes them look very shallow and patronising.

And that question was to @pjohnson who will not answer because he is delighted the peaceful activists were mistreated by the far right.

As well as sanctioning Israel, the arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant should be executed and both taken to The Hague to stand trial for the committing of War Crimes crimes.

The circa 5 sealed ICC warrants (for Ben-Gvir and Smotrich and 3 others) should be unsealed and executed with the subjects also taken to The Hague to stand trial on the charges.

The Smotrich and Ben-Gvir warrants are widely thought to also be for War Crimes.

Finally, Netanyahu should also complete the criminal trial for bribery and corruption against him so Israelis can also see domestic justice served.

I wouldn’t agree with “shallow” maybe they have a degree of reality and are not led by the nose supporting ‘causes’ like it would appear amongst some. Maybe they have done all they can and have some common sense here,

According to Israel and her shills… yes. They do not give a fcuk about humanitarian law

If there had been no video, and Bibi got word of what Ben Gvir did,
would he have still saw fit to issue a statement condemning it?

Absolutely not, they would just accuse people of being Hamas

    Tick-tock …

    https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2026/5/20/massie-defeated-the-israel-lobbys-pyrrhic-victory-in-kentucky

US Representative Thomas Massie lost his Republican primary on Tuesday after one of the most expensive and politically charged congressional campaigns in modern United States history. For the Israel lobby and its allies, the result marked a decisive victory. US President Donald Trump deployed his political weight against Massie, endorsing his chosen challenger, Ed Gallrein, and turning a local race into a national confrontation. At the same time, pro-Israel organisations and billionaire donors, including Miriam Adelson, poured extraordinary sums into Kentucky to defeat a congressman whose offence was questioning military aid to Israel and challenging the expanding influence of pro-Israel lobbying power in Washington.

Yet beneath the celebration lies a deeper and more troubling reality. The Kentucky race exposed a widening backlash among Americans increasingly uneasy with the scale of political influence exercised by organisations and donors aligned with a foreign state. What unfolded no longer resembled a conventional congressional primary. To many voters, the contest appeared less about Kentucky, less about conservative priorities, and less even about US national interests than about enforcing ideological conformity to Israel’s political preferences and punishing dissent within the Republican Party.

Sound's like Trumps board of peace project is having cash flow problems with no one sending the cash they pledged.

Gideon Levy of Haaretz was just on RTÉ radio 1.

He is ashamed of Israel, as are many other Israelis - but put it in context when he stated that Netanyahu should have fired Ben-Gvir on the spot for his behaviour. But didn't.

He believes that this could be a turning point in the approach to Israel by other nations and particularly the EU.

    The US doesn't like democracy!

The United States has instructed its embassy in occupied al-Quds to pressure Palestinian leadership to withdraw a bid for a UN General Assembly vice-presidency role, The Guardian reported, citing a State Department cable.

The move comes amid US concerns that the position could allow the Palestinian delegation to preside over or influence high-profile debates on West Asian issues at the United Nations. The cable, dated  May 19 and looked over by The Guardian, directed US diplomats to issue a formal demarche to thePalestinian Authority leadership, urging them to abandon the bid.

According to the document, Palestinian officials were given until May 22 to withdraw their candidacy for one of the 16 vice-presidential positions of the UN General Assembly. The cable warned that “consequences will follow” if the Palestinian side failed to comply, adding that the US mission had “repeatedly appealed” for them to step down.

The elections are scheduled for June 2, alongside the selection of the next General Assembly president.

I just watched the video now. He is shameless. He even admits that if he had his way they would be treated as terrorists in the prison system with all that entails, but anyone reading that as a tacit admission of systematic abuse by him within the prison system is wrong. B'tselem and every organisation critical of Israel's conduct are liars and anti semitic! - At least that's what the apologist would like you to believe. You are right Bibi only cares about damage limitation from the fall out of this video. He doesn't care enough to sack Ben Gvir. Maintaining power is his primary concern.

Morocco and UAE sent money. I wonder if those funds will get "mislaid" somehow should the board of peace be scrapped
