Anyone else think Mainoo's body language looks quite poor these days? Might be just his manner in fairness but he doesn't seem to look too interested when he's coming on.

According to Sky Sports' Keith Downie, FIFA have decided to allow the clubs to delay the departure of the AFCON-bound players until December 15.

we play on monday the 15th so hopefully our guys can play then.

I wouldn't be in any way confident of 6 points from West Ham and Wolves. We've shown we can lose to absolutely anybody these days. I'd actually say it's unlikely we'll win both.

Good win in the end v Palace but it wasn't exactly convincing overall. There are problems in nearly every area of the pitch.

If we cant beat Wolves we deserve relegation. They are awful.

Agree. West ham and wolves are also much improved of late. Villa found it tough at the weekend

Keeping the guys for the Bournemouth match would be brilliant

We finished last season on 42 points averaging around 1.1 PPG and placing 15th.

Currently, just over a third of the way through the season we have 21 points, averaging around 1.6 PPG and we are 1 point off the champions league qualification places.

Is that not an improvement or going in the right direction?

While we haven't been perfect by any means, in the main we have played much better so far this season than the bulk of last season. You can discount the glaring gaps in the middle of the field if you want but they are a factor. We bought two super players last summer and will hopefully get a CM in January.

To essentially say we are exactly as we were this time last year is simply false.

It's getting harder to refute this take. We should be seeing more at this stage in the team's evolution I believe.

The system is not working as designed and the main problem is no one can tell what the design is supposed to be from watching the players on the pitch.

The main sticking point to going all in on the Amorim criticism is how consistently bad the team has been for years and years now under many different coaches.

Are they overcoached, too micro managed, afraid to make a mistake? But then again they've looked that way since Mourinho.

I'd still point to Mainoo as a massive Amorim issue, he looks devoid of all his natural ability when he comes on now, has it been coached out of him?

    Heaven knows, he's miserable now.

(Almost want him to push for a loan just to see the headline.)

Ah here. For all the lack of improvement United are still better than West Ham and Wolves.

At home against West Ham, and Wolves are on 2 points, they are a rubbish side.

The three games afterwards, I wouldn't put any bets on those, but if we can't be secure about the likes of Wolves then there are no words.

You know what he has brought to the team, set pieces. We are second in the league for goals from set pieces and that’s nearly al down to good coaching. We've also stopped conceding at so many set pieces as well.

They are clear improvements that RA has brought.

Regarding needing new players, that's just common sense. RA or not we need new players.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Contrast Nevilles treatment of Yoro and Sesko this season with Carra talking about Wirtz. You'd swear Wirtz scored a hat trick yesterday the way Carra was singing his praises after *checks notes, zero goals or assists.

I don't care what Neville experienced in that UTD dressing room, him constantly dumping on young UTD players is bang out of order IMO, whether he's getting paid for it or not.

We'll have to wait and see. This is a team who couldn't score 1 goal against 10 man Everton for nearly 90 mins at home (who subsequently got hammered by Newcastle in their next game). This is a team who lost to Grimsby.

We're still a hugely inconsistent team so, no, I wouldn't be confident of the 6 points at all.

Wolves with a new manager bounce too, we’ve been unlucky to get a few of the poorer performing teams just after they’ve appointed a new manager. It definitely makes a difference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,670 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

They haven’t had a bounce under Edwards though. Two games, two defeats, zero goals scored. No goals scored in the last 4 games. We should be going to Wolves and taking 3 points, new manager or not.

For those who still believe things are going in the right direction under INEOS, take a look at what is going on with Nice over the last few days. Fans attacking players, six losses in a row, whole club falling apart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,769 ✭✭✭crusd

    Scholes has quit punditry.

And what do people want them to say. Yoro was great in every aspect of the game and Antony was exceptional and fully justified transfer fee?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

That's it in a nutshell, we're still incredibly inconsistent. The loss of Cunha and Sesko to a lesser extent for the last 2 games has disrupted the building of some form of consistency we had started to get going.

I would only go as far as saying the next 2 should be very winnable games. 6 points would be huge, I know every 3 points could be classed as important but with the way the table is at present (4 points off 2nd, 4 points off 15th), it does seem like a very important time of the season already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Charlie69

True, they were hugely improved against Villa (away from home too) though and were unlucky not to take something from the game. Of course I agree we need to take all three points from this one but the point still stands.

are ineos back in active control of them? I know they can be, but not sure if they are.

Dunno what has happened in the last 6 games - their form seemed decent from what I can see up til this recent horrendous form - and weren't they (the club) be praised last season?

Summer looks like it was a disaster though, I guess. 110m in in terms of players sold, ~30 out on purchases - thats terrible on the face of it. Is that an INEOS mandate on profit through recruitment?

and, to be honest, how does how Nice are being run reflect on Berrada and Wilcox? If United are poor, i'm looking at Berrada and Wilcox first, tbh.

I’m watching a discussion about City on Sky sports with Jamie O Hará who thinks City haven’t got enough goal scorers in the team 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,165 ✭✭✭adaminho

He's not wrong though, Haaland has over half their goals with 14 then Foden on 3 and everyone else on 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,933 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

    suppose it depends.

players who ARE scoring goals, maybe not.

but players who SHOULD be? Absolutely. Marmoush, Doku, Savio, Foden, Chekri. Silva and Reijders should be popping up too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,735 ✭✭✭✭JRant

He's nobody to blame but himself really. He threw in a request to leave the day before the summer window closed, knowing the club would not have time to get a replacement in. Berrada has been very clear that if players aren't fully on board they can go so leaving it so late left them with no choice but to hold on to him.

The frustrating part is that RA clearly liked him and played him when fit last season so if he just kept his head down he'd have played a lot more. As it stands now, he's someone that has made it clear he doesn't want to be here, hasn't signed a new deal, and is probably surplus to requirements as a result. I'm not sure why he would think he should be getting any game time with all this going on.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

he was told he was only an alt to Bruno, and then sees bruno never dropped or subbed (really).

Its speculation he'd have played more if he just kept his head down. We don't know. We don't know if Bruno would have been moved or dropped. I feel it unlikely, tbh.

How has he made it clear he doesn't want to be here? IMO specifically looking for a loan rather than a transfer indicates he does want a future at United, just doesn't see a path to playing while Bruno is here, which is fair - there is clearly zero path to playing while Bruno is here.

Maybe in the summer he thought Bruno would be played at 10 a bit - and then saw that wasn't going to be the case when he wasn't played there at all with Sesko not ready (and Cunha played up front). Further cemented by Amad being moved there rather than Bruno when Cunha and Sesko were both not available.

Why would he sign a new contract now? He'd be mad to. Why would he sign a new contract when he is getting 3 minutes a week. Why would you commit your future to a club that are showing they have no faith in you, or at least the manager has no faith or interest in you.

We saw Bruno and Case stink it up in central midfield vs Spurs in the EL final, with Mainoo coming on in the 90th.

Maybe he should have seen the writing on the wall early in the summer, but imo it wasn't obvious Bruno was always and only going to start at 8 and play 85+ minutes every time.

If I had to guess, I think Amorim has made his mind up on Mainoo already. Rightly or wrongly, I reckon Amorim is of the opinion that he's not a good enough athlete. If I was to have a bet, I think he'll be moved on in the Summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭Caustic

Whatever about mainoo wanting to leave on loan for more game time, it should not have been leaked it wasn't the club doing the leaking so that could only come from one side.

It just adds my drama and pressure on the club at a time when the club is doing it best to stabilize and actually reduce the drama

It's a major mark against mainoo tbh and I say that as someone who wouldn't mind seeing more of him in games. But if it was a different player who did it and we have seen it in the past they wouldn't be getting such an easy time from the fan base.

There is space in the team at the moment and the manger has said he is picking players based on how they are performing in training so it doesn't exactly bode well from that perspective either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,735 ✭✭✭✭JRant

He knew he was competing for a midfield spot against Bruno early in the summer though. If he didn't fancy it then he should have put in a request to move earlier IMO. Now, I happen to think he should have a lot more minutes this season because of how bad both Bruno and Case have been this season in there. For me, the midfield is one of my main gripes with RA and his reluctance to change it. That said, I also understand why a manager wouldn't want to pick a player that wanted out. You say it's just a loan he's looking for and is still committed to the club (paraphrasing here), it doesn't cut the mustard for me. Same as the contract discussions which were going on all summer as well. Why would the club be looking to give him a new contract if the manager didn't fancy him? The same manager that played him nearly every time he was available.

I like Mainoo and would love to see him succeed at the club but at the same time he's a 20 year old player, looking for a massive contract while at the same time looking to go on loan because he doesn't fancy it at Utd. Honestly, I don't want to hear from his agent anymore through leaks. If he wants to go in January then let him but if he thinks he's going to walk in to a midfield for any team in the top half of the PL he's in for a rude awakening. I've no doubt we'll start to hear agent talk again in the next couple of weeks. The only thing that does is disrupt the team and RA will be back to fielding stupid questions about yet another players future at the club.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,899 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

But all the evidence before Amorim arrived was that Mainoo looked like a great player. He got a run in the team aged only 18 and quickly made himself undropable.

Surely he deserves another run in the team. He's still only 20.

How can he be "not a good enough athlete" given Amorim selects Casemiro to start in midfield every week.
