Is there an optimal position for locating the Consumer unit from an electrician's perspective?

    Thanks as always

All external walls will have a service cavity as will all ceilings so no cables in the attic, no recessed lighting, no chasing external walls and no perforations through the airtightness membrane.

Internal walls in the main with be stud

if it were me I’d put it in the pantry

It’d be fairly central for cable runs

    Flush mounted 3 row

It’s unlikely to be in the way of appliances or built in units in the utility room

Is there no plant room for heat pumps/ heat exchanger

I’d place it here or one of the hallways

The location of the ESB meter will generally dictate where the main CU can go due to meter tail lengths, definitely something you should discuss with your electrician as part of the system design.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Yes, although unless the run was exceptionally long, (and/or you had exceptionally long final circuits) it’s unlikely to present a practical issue in a domestic house.
