    I didn't realise you had to be four years in the samee position! Im 4 years in total as a Grade 3 but this is myvsecond post. Should I just scrap it then and wait until im there 4 years or until there's an open comp for Grade 4s?

    You don't have to be in the position 4 years to apply, but you have to be in the position 4 years for the position/upgrade to automatically be yours.

    I'm not sure how long the waiting list is these days but if you are 2 years in the post, and there's a 2 year wait to be upgrade then it will be 4 years by the time it's upgraded and will automatically be yours. If the upgraded goes through before the 4 years someone else can request it.

    If you wait 4 years before applying and the process takes 2 years then you'll be 6 years in the post.

    Wait until you are in the post 4 years, i applied in February 2025 this year, thinking it would take 2 years to process, my job was evaluated in August 2025. I am now a temporarily grade 4 until they run a confined competition, if i am not successful, i will be reassigned to another HSE post, i will not have any control what this post will be and i will be posted to a grade 3 job. Dont make the same mistake i am now going through.
