Richie Reid and Paddy Deegan have been well entitled to their positions anytime selected up to now. The fact is we have had none better. I agree we need change but replacements have to be up to the standard. I agree also Paraic Moylan and Darragh Corcoran are entitled to decent game time even though I honestly don't see either of them being the answer mid summer. I feel hope lies in all those under 22 age brought into the panel along with the likes of the returning Timmy Clifford and the two boys who up to now were unable to commit, Liam Moore and Cahal Beirne. Zach and Owen Wall not quite enough hurling for the top level and that always has to be the starting point imo.

I hope Derek throws caution to the wind for the season coming and gives any new lads a fair go.Its alright being stoic and risk advese like Cody was when he had what he had at his disposal.

Derek blatantly hasn't that level of player. But what he does have is an opportunity to show balls and if it doesn't work then fine. But at least try.

We have had enough groundhog days the last few years.

Caution isn’t cowardice, it is management. It’s easy to say try new things, and I would largely agree with that sentiment, however, it can also be the case that putting too many, young and inexperienced players, where pace, physicality and decision making is not yet where it needs to be, could damage confidence as opposed to building it. Lyng could bin the structure, roll the dice, and end up with chaotic performances. It might be better and more responsible to have a gradual exposure to inter county, a mix of experience and new, building cohesion game by game.
It’s easy to advocate for adventure until the scoreboard punishes us. Then the same people calling for bravery will turn. Cody’s caution wasn’t just because he had top tier players, it was because it worked. Lyng’s adoption of sometimes a similar approach isn’t a lack of imagination but an acknowledgement that structured, reliable systems outperform scattershot change.
As for Groundhog Day, I am unsure why being within a number of points in the last couple of years should be considered so. Most supportive fans I would like to think would see that as competitive. Consistency is important for rebuilding. What looks repetitive from the outside can be the stability required for players and systems to mature. Changing course simply to avoid familiarity risks undermining genuine, if gradual progress.
