    Yup.

Establishment notifier of what they are pushing.

I suppose that's of some use but PK, probably like a lot of it's listeners, thinks it's the bees knees!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭Leinsterview

I disagree. I think he is still brilliant. He can find interesting angles in even the most boring of subjects.I am going to get bad PK withdrawals next year.

Pat trying his best to justify the Panorama programme and the high profile sackings at the BBC over the misinformation on that programme.

Don't forget to tune in on Thursday for the Misinformation Slot.

I don't know how Newstalk stands for his constant misreporting. Pat seems to have just too big a reputation for people to go there about how bad he is.

    What misreporting?

I listened this morning and didn't hear any?

Is misrepresentation on Boards as bad or worse than misreporting?

I listen most mornings and I can't recall him mis-reporting anything.

Maybe give us a few examples?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,541 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

Hmm, look at that, 12 hours later and still no examples of misreporting….

Rory Stewart is far from the main problem with The Rest is Politics.

I dont frequent this thread often but I am actually shocked to see people criticise Pat Kenny. Pat is still by a distance the best current affairs broadcaster in Ireland. And it will be a bad day for radio here when he moves to the weekend.

I can think of no example of Pat misreporting anything on newstalk or RTÉ radio.

I actually agree with this post. I was listening to Pat yesterday and his tone started off, very much dismissing the issue and framing it as something else. Eventually it levelled off to dealing with the story in a more cold light.

Look, it doesn't matter what you think of Trump and I think we can agree Pat is not a fan, neither am I.

However, media orgs. and journalists need to hold themselves to a higher standard and what BBC did, ultimately undermines public trust in an era where people are being misled online. The BBC, RTE Newstalk et al really need to be like Ceasar's wife in this respect.

Pat has been a great broadcaster for all of my adult life but his rigour and impartiality has slipped in recent years. He's still better than the rest in Ireland by a long way but he shouldn't sully his own legacy by dropping his standards.

Real bang of "why is Pat treating Trump differently, sure isn't he the same as any other politician?" off these posts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,471 ✭✭✭✭BPKS

There should be fair and consistent commentary from presenters of radio shows.

In fairness to Matt Cooper, who also despises Trump, he called out Joe O Shea yesterday when Joe called Panoramas mistake as "clumsy" instead as downright dishonest which it was.

We want misinformation to be called out but far too many commentators highlight misinformation from one side of the argument, but conveniently let it slide if it comes from the side they have allied themselves to.

After that American podcaster fella was murdered, Pat Kenny entertained all sorts of conspiracy theories, including his own which was that Putin was behind it.

That was a day or 2 before his Misinformation slot with double barrell name man.

    "Fair and consistent"

He'll be fair and consistent to other world leaders that act and speak and antagonise the way Trump does.

    Everyone see through your faux-concern.

"The American podcast fella" = "I definitely didn't know of him and like him"

These are tired and boring old attempts to feign neutrality. Get new tricks guys

So you don't dispute anything that was said. You just seem to think those who criticise Pat Kenny as not neutral.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Mr.CoolGuy

Yes basically. I don't really think you are neutral.

Even if you are being genuine, you could understand my cynicism as these are common techniques used to spread a narrative online while trying to come across as a true neutral party.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,565 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

    Nobody is neutral.

Pat Kenny long past his sell by date and pointing out that is important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,200 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Still head and shoulders above the vast majority of broadcasters in my opinion.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Why is it important to point out that you think he is past his sell by date?

Any criticism of Pat Kenny seems to be met with he's still the best in the business.

IF he could hide his own opinions he might be, but he just can't. He does come across as "old Man Shakes fist at clouds" at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭Lecter8319

He is still the best in the business but thats not saying much for the rest of the business. Pat is excellent in terms of widespread detailed knowledge on a wide range of topics, delivery and professionalism. He's highly intelligent, well educated and it shows. Comes across as a likeable individual in his interviews.

However, he's lost his marbles when it comes to Trump, America, international affairs, etc in recent times and is heavily showing his bias each time he discusses those subjects which is not what he used to be like imo. He used to be much more impartial which I think the best presenters and interviewers are.

Claire Byrne, Ciaran Cuddihy, Oliver Callan, Andrea Gilligan, Shane Coleman, Brendan O Connor etc are just sh*t and theres really no other way to put it. Politically correct, often dull & lick arses of the establishment.

The days of presenters like Kenny, Dunphy, Finuncane are going/gone and are being replaced by vastly overpaid so called 'talent'. Theres even talk of that little weasel Tubridy coming back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,541 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

That would be more of an insult if it wasn't for the fact he is 77, and is the main presenter on NewsTalks flagship programme. Why shouldn't he have an opinion on things?

"old Man Shakes fist at clouds"

Quite a good descriptor of these threads.

It wasn't an insult. It is a criticism of his role as a presenter...in any type of debate on the radio he should be able to do that. Be impartial, but Pat can't seem to do that anymore. He was good at it on RTE to be fair down through the years but not now. Maybe its a newstalk thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭mykrodot

I couldn't agree more. I remember so well the fansastic debates with Vincent Browne, pulling no punches, digging and digging until he got answers. Likewise Finucane. I remember when politicians could be asked questions of any sort, without advance notice. Those days politicians were were held to account! Now they can do anything, make as many mistakes as they like, run years over on time and budget with projects, waste millions on bike sheds and walls ,make promises to parents who's kids need life saving operations…………………and then they trot out the line "lessons will be learnt"! Its almost like they're laughing at us as they walk off.

Bland, boring, woke, soft is what we get now from current crop of presenters. Everything is sanitised in case someone is "offended". So we are stuck in a spin cycle of the same policitians, the same policies the same faux apologies………and we wonder why we have a housing crisis, a health crisis, appalling water infrastructure etc ?

Pat Kenny is superb, so was Vincent Browne. What was the common denominator? Intelligence. Being able to articulate themselves , construct good sentences, have a good command of vocabulary, not have a stutter. That is sorely lacking in the likes of Cuddihy, Callan, Katie Hannon, Brendan O Connor and they are muzzled by their producers and editors ,all paid for by our Government.

Pat Kenny will be sorely missed, the last of a dying breed. However he definitely has Trump Derangment Syndrome and its a pity he has let that take over his normal objectivity.

How is it possible to be impartial when it comes to Trump?. Name a single good thing hes done?. Hes a vain bully without a single redeeming feature.

this is the point . His listeners don’t want news , they want to boo and hiss at their radios during the Two Minute Hate. It keeps them tuning in , keeps up ratings, which is why he keeps doing it
