I didn't hear the new opening jingle for Liveline yesterday, but I heard it today. It's rubbish. Someone got paid for that slop. SMH.

    What?

"I'm married with 2 children. But that's kind of irrelevant."

    😕

I don't think your husband and children would think so.

Mrs, was he a foreign courier by any chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,740 ✭✭✭touts

She says he only asks her once and never made her feel threatened.

So she decides to go on Liveline and seek to destroy his career and life.

This one needs to realise that her actions can have massive impact on others around her.

Yeah John Cooke was the best of all the stand-ins. I never heard of him before, it would be good if he gets some holiday slots.

I still think Niall Boylan would've been a better choice if RTE wanted to keep ratings up but he wouldn't have played by RTE's rules.

A place I worked in head hunted a salesman from a competitor, selling the exact same products. He was supposed to be miracle worker, with a great sales record etc. A manager pushed and pushed to get him. He was signed up on a much better salary and commission than the existing sales staff. Needless to say, he was nowhere near as good as most of the existing lads..

That reminds me, did anyone tell the Indians that it was OK to come out again ? Well, probably as OK as for the rest of us

They were all housebound, living in fear, for a few weeks there in the late summer. Proper dystopian stuff.

Ok, so I appreciate that women frequently feel threatened and scared and vulnerable in the face of unwarranted approaches from men. But I also wonder does the media and some organisations and some women themselves actually play upon these fears as an excuse to blame someone else, or a reason not to do something or to feel they have to "change their behaviour".

I grew up in the west of Ireland and as a child (albeit male) , was fully aware of the horrifying case of Mary Duffy picked up from the roadside in Castlebar, and subsequently murdered by two horrible Englishmen. But it didn't stop me hitch hiking from that exact same spot for years after, or hitching to and from college and elsewhere all over the country. True I was male and accordingly probably not as vulnerable and true there were times when I was very frightened sitting in cars with strange individuals, but one judged the risks and ran with them as a necessity of getting about, because of the inaccessibilty or prohibitive cost of public transport at the time.

As it happens, my wife has been approached whilst out walking by a male, and asked if she'd like to go for a drink sometime. She didn't feel threatened and explained that she was married and the lad was somewhat embarrassed and apologetic and that was it. If anything she was somewhat flattered to be asked. Did she think it warranted to go on national radio to "discuss" it and question whether the male should be disciplined or tracked down and given a good talking to? No.

If you don't want to be contacted by someone for whatever reason, don't give them your details, pure and simple. In this day and age with so much fear abroad (some of it warranted and some not), I think that bears keeping in mind every time someone asks you for your phone number, regardless of the supposed reason for same. (Incidentally, I find it is frequentally females that will be the most active members of many What's app groups, when often times I find I don't have a clue who they are!)

The other mad consideration is, that up to 20 years ago there were these pecuilar things called Telephone directories, where everyone with a landline had their phone number (and an indication of their address) printed on it unless they specifically opted out. And anyone could look up their number and call it if they wished. But now Smartphones have become such a virtual extension of the person, that somehow some people feel violated if their personal device is encroached upon by unwelcome individuals, that is unfortunately one of the natural hazards and consequences of having a smartphone. But you can always block them also

Caller wants to tell us HIS facts, because for example it's our imagination that waiting lists have never been longer.
