Defensively we're still very poor. Almost on a par with Notts. Forest for GA. I don't think we can attribute that very much to Lammens though.

We are just poor at defending crosses. And our Defenders switch off at key moments.

In Midfield, we inevitably run out of gas around the 60/65 min. mark most games, at which time Casemiro needs to be replaced. Making it easier for opponents to play through us.

2nd half performances are hurting us and have to be a worry; in the last 3 games in the second half its GF:4 GA:6

Only the top 2 teams have scored more, only the bottom 4 have conceded more.

One clean sheet and 18 goals conceded in 11 games in just not good enough to push for a European place; Put into context Arsenal have conceded 5 including 2 today. The midfield needs reinforcements in January; Casemiro can only get through 70 mins once a week, Ugarte not good enough and Mainoo not getting a look in.

But no doubt we are improving and going the right way. It's going to be a long road but finally we can se progress.

When you think about it we buy Rasmus and Sesko and could have had Harry Kane....you talk about but yea its just a stop gap....so what? What happens when the Rasmus and Sesko dont work out. You've wasted 3 years and start again. Give me a proven premier league striker ala RVP any day.

The only proven premier league striker getting any volume of goals at the moment is Haaland and he won’t be signing.

Next to him is Danny Welbeck and we have been down that road.

Obviously Watkins was the proven one that a lot wanted at the club but he has not produced anything this season.

Other strikers I can think of such as Salah, Isak, Gykores have been rubbish this season too as is reflected in their numbers.

Sesko was late to the party and has limited game time but he definitely has all the attributes of a top striker if patience is shown with him.

The £75 odd million spent on Sesko looks very pricey indeed based on what he has shown so far.

Watching back that wonderful chance he fluffed yesterday, it had as much to do with his slowness of mind and needing far too much time as it had to do with a good defensive tackle. A top striker never even gives the defender the chance to make the intervention.

He just doesn’t play with much confidence or belief. Maybe a spell on the sideline with this injury won’t do him any harm

I’ve been really shocked at his lack of intensity in everything he does. Given his obvious athleticism I was expecting a violence to his movement. Quick powerful runs. Defenders nightmare.

I was largely expecting him to look a bit clumsy when he actually had the ball. Haaland can look clumsy at times, but he has the above.

Sesko just sort of meanders around like a young Peter Crouch with a considerably worse first touch. Hopefully a confidence thing. The chance yesterday was just a complete lack of intensity and intentionality. Halaand gets a shot in there 100% of the time and scores 75%+.

Except RVP wanted to come to us, there was never any sign thr Jane wanted to sign for United.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭DataDude

We definitely could have signed Harry Kane if we went all out for him. We didn’t want to deal with Levy and thought Hojlund was the smarter signing.

It’s a decision that set us back a 5+ years at a minimum. Truly believe Harry Kane could drag this team into top 4 and potentially a title fight (especially if subsequent Sesko money was spent on CM and full back).

Haaland is a freak of nature what that lad can do in terms of getting away shots given his size is pretty much unparalleled.

Sesko is big and strong no doubt and able to use his size better already then zirzkee or hojund ever showed but again he will need time, before he is able to bully defenders in this league, every team have big strong CBS and its one of the biggest adaptation players need to make coming into the league.

I will say sesko looked a bit lost when he came on yesterday in terms of his pressing he chased a lot of lost causes which the team weren't doing and essentially took himself out of the pressing structure, which at least shows an eagerness to work for the team but also that he needs to be more disciplined and get in tune with his team mates.

Being too eager to want to impress will only add to the pressure already on him.

The chance yesterday will hopefully teach him a lesson about the speed of the league and to lean into the positive side at least he tried to be composed and make sure he finishes it instead of snatching at it. He will obviously need to find that balance going forward.

Again it's just way way way too early to be making any grand statements about him he has played just under 7 games (620 minutes) worth of premier league football the data just isn't there.

We were never signing him. It was all paper hype, there was never any sign that kane wanted to sign for another English club. Dreamland stuff.

Sesko was poor but I think its a bit exagerrated aswell. Like Van De Vens speed is ridiculous any other defender likely misses the ball and just takes Sesko out and we get a penalty anyway. Yes Sesko could have done better but it was the brilliance of Van De Ven that nullified the attack entirely

708 mins he has played for the club and some have wrote him off. Same script as usual will follow

    a) does not improve and the told you so crew appear

    b) improves massively and your told sure paid 75m for him why shouldn't he be good

I know everyone has an opinion but I feel United fans write off players so much quicker than other teams

He literally tried to force a move to City in 2021. He was definitely open to moving to another English club. Not sure where you're getting the Dreamland stuff out of tbh.

That game really annoyed me. They were there for the taking but I thought we were too passive. Ugarte is clearly not good enough. Team falls to pieces whenever Casemiro is not there. We are really struggling to play ball in the middle whilst recycling possession and are very reliant on Mbuemo and Cunha to beat the press.

I hope we can go and get someone in Jan who can do a job for us in the middle of the park. I know Baleba has been poor for the most part this season (played well for 2 or 3 games at one point) but I'd be testing the waters there in Jan and see if Brighton are open to letting him go with the fear that his value may fall even further in the second half of the season. If not, maybe go for a stop gap but we need some legs in there.

Actually thought Sesko played well when he came on in general but yes the chance was disappointing. Mount played well too I thought.

Happy with where the team is going but just want to see us be a bit more positive away from home.

Dreamland stuff that United fans think we were ever going to sign kane when he left spurs. It was never going to happen, not sure why people are still banging on about it years later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭Seattle

But you said there was never any sign that Kane wanted to sign for another English club. That was your rationale for saying the idea was 'dreamland'.

    It's not true.

if sesko had the presence of mind, and knew he wasn't getting a shot away, he should have gotten the ball into the box, then gotten himself between ball and defender, and won a pen.

all in, it was just really bad from him. and cost us 2 points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,300 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

you feel that way or actual facts?

i feel we give players far too much time. it means nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,300 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

this attitude does my head in. you need to believe, then transfer that to the players and fans. especially when there is a legit excuse you used a few sentences later.

"We have a lot of problems," said Amorim.

"To play with 10 men, but then to overcome everything and to manage to score, is a good thing, but if you look at the rest of the game, we were comfortable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭Quags

Now saying that there has being times were the club give to much time to players but from a fans side some players get wrote off as early as possible but again everyone has an opinion and that’s why freedom of speech is great.

a solid response - this site wouldn't exist without people voicing options.

(just say what you think, not what you feel).i think dalot is crap vs i feel dalot is crap. just doesnt have the same conviction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

We played decently ok up until the goal then sat back and fairly nullified spurs till half time, but they dominated us fairly hard second half both in and out of possession until the manager made changes including ugarte coming on, like I'm not saying ugarte didn't make mistakes yesterday but our most control of the game came from the time Amad moved back until spurs scored I don't see how saying we fell apart when he came on has any basis in reality, we actually kept possession better and won it back better when he was on the pitch.

Don't mean to have a go or even defend ugarte but I've seen this narrative a few times online and it's just not what happened

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,961 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

Yup, very fair comment. He wanted to move to a club that could win titles. United was never a serious destination for Kane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Just watched back our first goal we conceeded yesterday winning 1-0 83rd minute, Bruno plays the ball to mount and runs forward for a 1-2 mount plays the ball forward instead but gives it away one pass and spurs are in at our defense, ugarte is back but has two men to cover, this is again an issue with Bruno in midfield not an ugarte issue on the goal, he has to cover two men, ball goes to the wing amad doesn't do much to stop the cross and a goal is scored.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭scottser

Levy was never going to sell Kane to another PL team. Moreover, Kane didn't want to come to us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,736 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Must have been watching a different match yesterday because Casemiro amd Bruno were muck for most of that game. The best spell of the match was when Ugarte came on up.until Dalot was brought on. Once the headless chicken joined the party all.shape went out of the team. His ability to drop.into.a.5 man defence and do absolutely nothing is unparalleled.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,490 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

He made a **** of two very good chances, one where he tries to slow it all down and come back onto his right and the VDV tackle one. A top striker actually uses his first touch to go across VDV so he can't tackle, I don't even think he knew VDV was there - slowness of mind.

Should point out in his defence, if he was up to speed and playing with confidence he does score at least one of those. Hopefully he comes good.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

Up until last May I was still getting overwhelming negative response to saying Hojlund and Ugarte were not good enough for United. I think the fanbase are incredibly patient with new signings. Zirzkee was the only one I ever saw that people really turned on quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

    Sesko would have scored that.👀

I definitely need to watch this game again, in particular Bruno, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dalot, Sesko and Mounts performances.

    Lots of divided opinions here.

Overall I think it's frustrating the energy levels were a bit low and we were too comfortable at times. Conceded 2 again :-( while looking like the more dangerous side.
