Any timeline for Licha's return? Things could really start taking shape when he gets back

Were both goals conceded after Casemiro went off again?…,he and de Ligt have been excellent this season.

Thomas Frank has a serious William Defoe look about him.

I'll watch it again tomorrow, maybe I got caught up in it all and expected him to grab the game by horns a bit more. In my defense I had three dogs and two downhearted United kids around me while the game was on. I definitely thought Sesko and Mazrouri looked off and Ugarte just isn't good enough, nobody I hope will argue with me there!

I'd never seen Ugarte play before he came here beyond a few YouTube highlights which - in hindsight - suspiciously omitted pretty much any clips from his time at PSG and were all highlights from his Sporting days.

But unless there's been a sudden and inexplicable decline in his technical ability, it's genuine scouting malpractice that someone in that line of work could watch him play regularly and recommend him as a signing.

I think from a pure footballing ability point of view, he's been the worst transfer we've made in recent years.

There's just nothing there. It's not that we're playing him in the wrong position, it's not that he doesn't have the supporting cast he needs around him, it's not that the system doesn't suit him.... He's just genuinely really, really bad at football.

And all shortly after sky posting a live league table

I think De Ligt has a bit of a David de Gea vibe going on. He has a few quality moments in a game that leaves a good impression but there's just something about him that I feel isn't the real deal.

I've been very critical of Dorgu but today thought he put in a good performance. He's good for these type of tough away games. And let's be honest every away game is tough for us.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

100% unforgivable. And not like it was some big suprise. I’d never seen as many unified voices saying he would flop with absolute certainty. All the stats guys, anyone who watched him in PSG.

He’s one of the few players I’d written off as a flop before he’d kicked a ball. It was all just so inevitable. You don’t learn to play football. He’s exactly who’s always been. An elite ball winner who’s useless at everything else - no business at a supposed ‘top tier side’

Thankfully Amorim has essentially moved on from him. Will be sold this summer.

Needs to Iearn to use his left foot.

By far the thing that annoys me most in professional football.

I hear what you’re saying but it was still a savage bit of defending. As McCoist said on commentary, no way Sesko expected VdV to get back and was just concentrating on the finish.

Ugartes hopelessness is why I'm baffled by the urge to bin Casemiro. Ideally we can sign a new starter and drop Case (provided he takes a large wage drop) to Ugarte's role.

The drop off from Case to Ugarte is unbelieveable. And signing a player who knows they are arriving strictly as a back up can be tricky.

That would be my thought on it.

When in that position there is exactly one direction the defender is going to be coming from, and the top "natural" strikers are instinctively protecting the ball against it before they get their shot off.

Sesko didn't think he had left anyone for dust because he wasn't thinking of the defenders at all, he didn't really have close control of the ball, his only touch was to knock the ball forward and to me it very much looks like all his thought is on the shot he might eventually decide to take.

Its not the end of the world, strikers have wasted those chances before, but he absolutely should be scoring no matter what defenders are on the field.

I actually don't think many would like to bin Casemiro. It's his huge wage for his age that's the main issue.

Hardly have a cheap buy back for Garner?

He's by far the fastest player in the league, but even if it was the slowest, you touch the ball away from the oncoming defender and get a clean strike on your left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Charlie69

Ah yeah I agree with that but I’m just acknowledging an excellent bit of defending.

There’s absolutely no doubt that Sesko is struggling to get up to speed with the premiership and has to realise he doesn’t have the time on the ball he had in Germany.

He has actually struggled with the physicality of this league up to now too. Still early days though so wouldn’t write him off just yet.

Its not just the wage for me.

We have seen this Casemiro before.

But when he gets an injury we will see the Casemiro that takes forever to get back up to speed. And as the season goes on we will see the Casemiro that doesn't have the legs for a long season. And next year when we should have midweek games again we will see the Casemiro that can't handle the number of games.

He is doing ok now, but he absolutely needs to be replaced.

Think we were better when maz went off for sure Amad goal aside did a better job closing and defending and with ball progression, was a real weird game.

We were been dominated for a long time until we made the subs, sesko should have done better at times, but we started to control the game ourselves when we made the subs and actually pressed better and got on the ball better.

Then the goal Amad can do better but even still it's a dodgy deflection and it goes it and the 2nd is aong ranger going wide that richy gets a head on to deflect it in perfectly so a huge slice of luck on both.

I will say I didn't pay enough attention to ugarte to ser how he played but I do think we played better after the subs then before

    Not to

Not to defend ugarte I don't think he is good, I don't think he is good enough going foreard but in terms of the signing he was signed when ten hagg was in charge and we used to get absolutely destroyed in transition constantly, no midfielder could deal with it but ugartes best attributes were pressing, closing down and winning the ball back, oddly enough ten hagg wouldn't play him and now we are stuck with him, I can see the reasoning for the signing through the prism of what then hagg wanted to do

    Collyer > Ugarte

I think what we are seeing with sesko and a lot of new signings especially ones from Germany oddly is the pace of the league, a great striker knows what around him and doesn't give the defender a chance to get back from a chance like that.

He has the strength and fight to deal with the league, has a good touch and good feet for a big fella, he is good enough so far on Ariel duels and has a savage powerful shot on him, it's far too early to be writing him off as a waste or not good enough yet, plenty of players have taken a year to adjust to the league, hopefully it doesn't take him that long as he does have serious potential.

And with the profile of players we have signed in the summer we don't always need to play him like hojund last season so even from that perspective it's good

There is a better than half chance this summer we need an entire new midfield.

    Cas gone for free

    Ugarte should be sold

    Mainoo might force a move

Bruno, Saudi will come in again and depending on price may be sold.

Ben jacobs said that Anderson will be available for a lot cheaper than people think. He didn't elaborate on what he meant.

11 from 15 ain't bad, but we should have 6 points from last 2 games, so points dropped imo

I was a big defender if ugarte, but I would 100% back selling him and giving casemiro a new short term contract (on way reduced terms).

We need to replace both, but I'd prioritise ugarte cause I'd back casemiro to be more useful as a rotation.

Had the pleasure meeting this legend today, as a st Pats and United fan, he's such a humble person. Made my day ❤️

Yes, and that he visibly tires after 60 minutes, with only one game per week. He won't take a significant wage cut either - he can go to Saudi league and make top tier wages there, or if he isn't motivated by money head home to Brazil and finish off his career there. Good player, but not the future. Extending his contract for 2 or three years will just make it harder to sign the 2 or 3 central midfielders we need.
