Rainwater Down Pipe

I have a rainwater downpipe on my garden shed which feeds into a rainwater gully at ground level. Every time there is a heavy downpour of rain the area around the gully is a mess with escaped water .I have checked the gully outlet and its fine and flowing with a 4" wavin pipe. The shed roof is your average size garden shed . the downpipe is aligned with the gully, but it still sprays around the gully on a downpour. Any of you good people with views to remedy the problem would be appreciated.
