Even I would probably have pushed the sell button if was vote on it.

That fourth goal is probably one best non assists I have seen. To have that vision just has to come naturally. Very hard teach that.

I assume it is now ok to say that United, could, should and will beat Forest and Spurs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

You are such a martyr. Dunno how you find it in you to so brave so often.

We should beat Forest. Spurs I would be far less sure of than you. Dunno why would SHOULD beat Spurs away tbh, a side that are above us int he table. Can, certainly. Treat it as a failure if we don't? I dont think so tbh.

Those 3 wins in a row, have given us some breathing space. We're bang in the top 4/5 battle. Winning every game wins you the title, no one has that expectation right now (I always do, but won't be looking for his head if we don't).

2 points a game from here gets us Champions League, that's surely the target, a point or even a loss away to Spurs doesn't derail that.

Let's all take a breath and give the team a bit of space!

I felt the writing was on the wall a few weeks back but to be fair they have shown they are all at least trying to pull in the same direction.

There's still decisions happening each week I'm not happy about (Bruno in midfield) but I can't be a hypocrite.

We asked for better performances and we got them.

What we have seen on the pitch the last few weeks at least points to there being something positive happening in the dressing room. Let's support them and see where they can take it.

4 points from Forest and Spurs would be good return.

Clearly you’ve made your mind up. So tell me, why are you so confident that United will beat Spurs, a team ahead of MUFC in the table, have scored more goals and conceded half the number of goals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Well if That's your opinion I guess it's time to admit you misjudged the manager and shouldn't have been saying he was not up for the job after a month, brave to say you were wrong about that after being so vocal about it for so long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

Why would you assume that? You seem to be covering all the bases. Win the 2 matches and sure wasn't it all fully expected. Lose and the knives can come out again because we should've won both games.

That's the way it works alright. The team expected to win always does in the Premier League.

Because form and momentum are powerful beasts. We have all seen this a hundred times, an imperfect team can go on a run and do really well for themselves, and when you get a head of steam like that it tends to go for more than just a game or two. Especially when playing teams that are on your level or worse.

It doesn't mean they will go unbeaten until the end of the season, or even to the end of the year, but I would be pretty damn confident that they will get to 5 games in a row and likely a few more after.

Will I answer now or wait for the other two lads to repeat this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

It is the target, and they will drop points eventually. But I find it hard to believe they aren't buzzing behind closed doors and see themselves winning these two games, regardless of what any fans think.

Honestly, they shouldn't take a breath, they should ride this momentum as far and as fast as they can.

It’s okay to say they COULD, not so sure about SHOULD but definitely not okay to say WILL beat those teams because sport doesn’t work like that. If it did the punters would get rich instead of the bookies. Does this have to be explained to you every week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Doesn't matter the fact the whole thread can see through your bit should tell.you enough, tis a fairly sad stance, mad to think you can't just enjoy a few wins because you had to go all in on the manager being shite from the start. You never know you might still get what you want yet

    Only catching up now

Tbh we SHOULD be beating Forest but we all know how football is, Spurs I'd snap your hand off for a point.

I suppose you could say Villa beating City was a surprise.

I fancied Sunderland against Chelsea, but Chelsea were heavily odds on.

Not too many surprises outside of that though

There's strong rumour that the outcome of the City charges is imminent. Imo there's a fairly high chance that they will be found guilty on many of them and hammered. Much of the evidence is out in the public and smoking gun stuff, the reason why they've been able to get away with it for so long is because they've successfully dragged it out with legal challenges (which is running out of road now). I'm sure that's having a knock on effect as to why the panel is taking so long to produce the report. If you were on the panel, you'd know full well that City will try to find any angle they could to drag it out further with legal challenges, so it's understandable that the panel would preempt this and take more time with the report and ensure it's as watertight as possible.

It'll make qualifying for the top 5 much easier if justice is done anyway.

I don't think for a second that there will be any substantial penalty, even if they're found guilty on any of the charges.

My money is on them getting off the more serious charges, found guilty of some more minor ones and walking with very little damage beyond meaningless fines.

Yep, pretty much. We all know they are cheats, the PL know they are cheats, journos and pundits know they are cheats, but the reality is that there is so much money coming into Britain from the middle Eastern States that nothing meaningful will happen.

I know nothing meaningful will happen, in terms of relegation, titles stripped or even points lost.

But there would still be value in the PL just having the balls to officially make a judgement on the case and to have on record what everybody already knows.

If all we get is an asterisk against their wins, then at least have it be an official one.

Is there a reputable source saying the announcement is imminent? Even if they are found guilty, they will appeal for another 5 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,164 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Can't see them being relegated, fines and maybe a points deduction for this season at most. In the extremely unlikely event they have titles stripped from them, 2012 goes to United, 2014 goes to Liverpool (Rodgers! Stevie G!!) and 2018 which is the most recent season being investigated goes to United and Mourinho! Won't happen though…

Completely disagree with all of the above.

The PL's reputation would be shredded if they don't throw the book at City because there are many precedents of hefty points deductions for clubs who have only committed a tiny fraction of offenses compared to the scale and seriousness of the City charges. Imo there's virtually no chance they'll be found not guilty because of the smoking gun evidence that exists and also little chance that they could only be given a slap on the wrist. It'll be severe. They've been able to obfuscate and drag things out legally so far, because that's what extremely wealthy entities do. But their problem is that the PL itself is also an extremely wealthy entity and they've pursued this for years, and haven't been scared off by the sheer costs and time consuming nature of the legal obfuscation. They'll see it through now they've come this far.

I think it should be pointed out the PL are not deciding this case. The PL have presented their evidence, and now an independent body is judging the case and deciding on what punishment, if any. Whether City are found guilty or not, and the punishment if they are found guilty, is no longer in the hands of the PL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I want the titles stripped so that I can then say that aguero moment is meaningless cheating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,173 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Not necessarily. When Serie A completed the Calciopoli investigation and stripped Juve of their titles, the league officially had no winner those years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

I hope the book is thrown at them but I find it hard to see that happening in reality considering how important their money is to the UK generally. A financial penalty for financial cheating would be ridiculous though, just lets them use more of their bottomless pit of money to escape genuine punishment.

I don't think the titles won should be given to anyone else either, a huge asterisk beside those wins will do for me. There should be serious sporting sanctions however for this season and also upcoming ones to properly reflect the (alleged) level of cheating that has occured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,603 ✭✭✭randd1

    Of course they will.

And followed shortly by an announcement of a massive mega-money pre-season tournament for the Premier League clubs in Asia, sponsored by the tourism boards of Abu Dhabi.

Which in no way is a bribe to the Premier League and it's clubs to let City off the hook.
