Nanks on the bench, interesting. Coombes to come on also. Good impact off the bench overall, better than last year anyway. Pity Haley, Casey, Jager and Aherne aren't free.

Delighted for Edogbo, hope he goes well. Scrum a bit of a worry but it was always going to be with Jager gone.

Just saw the Leinster team, they've gone full bore. I'm an optimist at heart, if we cut out the mistakes of the last week and play more like in Round 1 I'd be hopeful. If we don't, it will be hard to snatch a win. Form goes out the windows for interpros though.

We'll be sending everyone down the 10 channel and they'll be pressurising our 9!

I had a feeling we'd see Shane Daly back at FB this season, with the options we have on the wing, and I think it really suits his skillset, I'd have no reservations with him there with Haley out.

Originally was rooting for Quinn to get more minutes at 7 this season, but with JOD's form, I think he justifies his selection here.

Happy to see Coughlan get the nod over Patterson.

And it is very cool to see both Gleeson and Edogbo both pick up starts here.

What is going on with Limerick schools not producing players? Is it due to the period of success by the hurling team?

I was going to post this in the Ireland thread but it’s been such a mess the last few weeks I thought better of it.

Coming from a Leinster supporters perspective, 8/9 front rows in the Irish squad isn’t sustainable. The 50/50 call of Milne/McCarthy being Leinster vs Leinster pathway anyway. Arguably the starting Munster front row moving forward could be all from Leinster, with Connachts front row squad being a good chuck from Leinster aswell.

Is there any up and coming young front rows coming through at Munster? Find it crazy that for a club with such a massive history of excellent forwards and front rows that there seems to be nothing there.

I ask the above in good faith so just looking for an answer of if any good prospects are coming through and not looking for an argument about academies, Leinster private schools, IRFU bias or anything else that can derail a question like the above.

Lot more at hooker than at prop; Barron is a good player, Sheehan was good for the 20's and has a decent prospect of being a good pro. A lot of people rate Clein but I've never really seen him play.

Hadden and Foxe seem like the best prospects at prop but both came from Leinster clubs. Kieran Ryan looks like a future provincial player rather than international and he's already 23. McSweeney has the size but has had injury troubles and doesn't seem to be trusted by any management team when he is fit. Calvey is too young to really make a call on. Wycherly looked like he could be an answer for a while but he stalled and he's already 26.

2 guaranteed Limerick starters (and internationals) injured.

7 Limerick players starting for the A team on Saturday.

At the end of the day they all wear red and it's meaningless where they come from when they're on the pitch.

It isnt just schools. It can never be just about schools but clubs as well and while Limerick isnt producing as many other areas are producing more than they did and in past some of these would almost have been regarded as Limerick produced as Ennis, Nenagh, and Cashel all stronger at underage and/or adult than in past when previously players from these areas would have went into Limerick. Hurling is a factor but just saying Hurling is an excuse.

Tbere is some up and coming front rows in Munster. was speaking to a few scrum gurus recently in the province raving about a few guys but theyre not yet on radar of the professional set up.

They've reduced capacity in the best terrace in Thomond Park

What is the actual reason for this, never heard of any kind of Incident with a crush or anything.

After every match MR do a survey beuth those that attended, some poor souls must have complained that their favourite spot was taken or their favourite area was packed.

In fairness it can get tight on the East Terrace between the two 22s and I've seen a few people requiring medical attention but it never felt unsafe

Unbelievable, no scrum no win was proved to be very far off the mark tonight.

At the start of the season I said if be judging McMillan on getting a win over Leinster, little did I know it would be in Croke Park.

Crowley deservedly gets MotM but Beirne wasn't far behind him.

What a performance. Great defence work, over twice as many tackles as Leinster. Should be a good few Irish headaches after this. The Crowley question should now be considered settled and let him develop into a complete No 10 over the season.

    Last week, Munster were +17, Leinster were -17, tonight we're +34 and they're -34

Let that be the standard for the season. We have more in us. Hope the lads who went off injured will be ok and not serious. What was encouraging today was that we had a strong 23 and my god did we hunt them down. Our three centers were also magnificent.

I was not expecting that. Absolutely delighted, but it will be meaningless if we don't back it up against Connacht next week.

I think next week depends on who's available, we picked up a few injuries there tonight. It was a real shame to see Coughlan having to leave as we're going to be missing Casey for the AIs.

How good was Beirne, first game back, tackling and poaching as if he never took a break. No rustiness there.

That win will not be meaningless if we lose next week.

It was phenomenal and a real statement of intent regardless of what happens next week.

    100%

Part of me felt referencibg Axel was somewhere in a team talk this week.

Defensive bar as been set now

As we see time and time again in all sports if you are hurting its rocket fuel!! Statement win by Munster! Beirne, Crowley, Gleeson were outstanding along with so many others!!

As for the New Zealand game Beirne should be captain and Crowley number 10

Oh and Coombes, immense and should be on the plane

A lovely win and beautiful performance. Didn't expect it but totally chuffed for everyone. The defensive work rate was immense, loved that. Got to make sure we beat Connacht next week and keep the momentum going.

I don't think Fineen gets the credit he deserves. He's a work horse second row that gets through a mountain of work. His aggression this season is really rounding him out as a player

I don't understand the moving of the match to Croker. Stadium seemed half empty. Decent atmosphere all the same, pitch looked well etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,612 ✭✭✭✭phog

He's like a new signing this year, he's been brilliant for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,553 ✭✭✭leakyboots

Fineen's problem has always been silly penalties. When he doesn't do that he's very effective, does the grunt work that allows others. Can see him taking the Billy Holland role, leader of the pack on the dirty nights in Wales when the internationals are in camp

A statement of intent is no use if you can't back it up. We're at home next week and we absolutely must win.
