The salary Ray Darcy was getting was obscene.

Im always interested in who the producers are that will come with the presenters.

Moving the 'Today with' Dave McCullagh to 9am is an obvious move and should slow any retuning to NT and Claire Byrne.

However Oliver Callan at 11 is potentially a weakness , especially if there is a big or breaking news story on the day - and big stories are more likely to break in the 11 to 12 time period. Callan is like marmite and its to be seen if he can carry a 2 hour programme.

Kieran Cuddihy is either a masterstroke or potentially a disaster in the liveline slot, however, that he is not immediately replacing Joe Duffy will be to his advantage.

Louise Duffy show will become a shortend 'Ray Darcy' style slot.

Drive time.....NT starts at 4 and that part of the show tends to be filler.....will Drivetime be any different?, 'prime' drive time is the 5 to 6pm slot with the 6 to 6.30pm used for secondary stories , its a strange decision.

Where Nuacht fits in hasn't been confirmed ,its 12noon and in particular the 4pm slot may need to be changed (again).

While I’m happy enough with Callan of late the fare has been very predictable .

0905-20. Have a few digs at those in power and the papers

    0925-45. Some dude flogging something

0948-1000. General and a bit of music

Will need to change the tempo to sustain two hours,Info is correct there

I'd love for Louise Duffy's show to remain a music one. There's far too much chatter on Irish radio, and a preoccupation with filling daytime shows with speech. I know people who listen to Lyric FM to give their ears a rest.

Drivetime is definitely weakened by replacing McInerney and O'Headhra with Katie Hannon & Colm Ó'Mongáin.

One thing I'm surprised they haven't changed is the start time for Morning Ireland. Newstalk are up and running with excellent business programming from 6:30

In RTE lane everyone is working from home, they don't cater to the plebs that work in ordinary jobs in chock a block traffic still crawling home

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 280 ✭✭Bocadilloo

Patricia moynihan is formerly Newstalk I heard. Is the plan to turn RTE into another woke Newstalk? Going that way with the cuddihy appointment.

Pensioners won't get the time of day on liveline with cuddihy. He'll cut them off quicker than D'Arcy..

It's amazing in broadcasting how you get slated by public and then get offered a new job as a result

That's surprising as well. 6pm is a ridiculous time to end Drivetime

Cormac is awful and is much better suited to a magazine show or Newstalk.

What's woke about Newstalk??? Ciara Kelly??? Shane Coleman??? Literally every single subject that gets discussed on it. Stopped listening a couple of years back so couldn't even tell you if those presenters are still there

I'd hardly call Ciara Kelly woke. She's just a cheap shock jock doc who'll say anything for attention. Not a sincere bone in her body.

Well, I'd disagree wholeheartedly even if it goes against the dogma on here - Cormac is a very good broadcaster. I do think he's more suited to a magazine show than pure news/current affairs. And Colm O'Mongain the reverse. They are going to destroy Drivetime. I really hope Cormac remains in a decent slot on Radio 1.

He's insufferable, he's definitely in the Newstalk mould.

18:00 - 19:00 - new sports show: Presume this is game on moving from 2fm?

I don't understand an dedicated sports program each day towards the end of rush 'hour'. Many people have no interest in sports at all and they will just change station. It is the same thought process FF used to pick a GAA lad to run for president. They think he is world famous, but the reality only GAA fans have ever heard of him.

Moncreiff is woke, and that is it. They did have Dill on for a few years. But her show was awful. She came across as so smug and self serving. There is something so prefomative about her activism.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

    100%
Its too early for a full sports show by about 1/2 hour- 6.30 might be OK but at 6pm people are still in the throws of traffic jams and whatnot

Dil the literal worst "comedian" I have ever seen, thankfully as you say her dreadful show cancelled on newstalk I think since 2017.

if you excuse the language ‘the bigger the bollox the better you’ll do on Liveline ‘

I predicted from day one that it would be an outsider and so it was.

Agreeing with everyone and the auld ‘ everyone is great’ doesn’t work on Liveline

cancelling O ‘hEadhra won’t weaken it. …… au contraire …..

Hope they teach Cuullum a few elocution lessons.

I wonder if Patricia Monahan will EVER be able to sort out 2FM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭bureau2009

Question: How many RTE Radio 1 presenters are now represented by Noel Kelly Management?

Will our annual licence fee reduce?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 727 ✭✭✭bureau2009

I just wonder .......did Claire Byrne jump before a possible push from Patricia Monahan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭techman1

Dill on for a few years. But her show was awful. She came across as so smug and self serving.

I think she tried to make a come back with her revelation that she was in a threesome with another woman but that was too much even for the ultra liberals so she has disappeared, id say the same for the threesome

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭MFPM

PK is 78 in January, they need a replacement for him and Byrne is perfect for them, she's broadly centre right so will fit in well with NT. Byrne can be more opinionated on NT and will earn more money too so a win, win for her though she'll be broadcasting to far less people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,023 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

Probably not, but with Darcy defenestrated she would have been the only one on an old style salary.

It's ok to push out Ray D'Arcy being a 60 something man but it wouldn't be ok to push out Claire Byrne a 40 something woman, thems the rules of modern media landscape now
