Yeah man I miss the snow. I actually bought Warlords of NY just so I could play in the snow again only to find out there’s none in it :(. Actually gonna download this again haven’t played it in awhile.

Yeah there is a free to play game coming out but from a different studio. With Massive working on an Avatar game along with a Star Wars game, I wonder if Heartlands will be the main Division game going forward

I played Division 1 yesterday, man NY is so much better than Washington! Said I'd go for platinum which meant extracting an item from each DZ (as well as a bunch of others) but started with that. Called in the chopper, 2 guys came in and hunkered down with me. I tried to remember the emote button to give a wave.... Went rogue instead and they insta killed me and took my stuff :D. Going back to it to do survival as well. If anyone feels like division 1 shenanigans some evening on PlayStation, give me a shout.

was there many playing @Zero-Cool ? i would have thought the DZ would have been pretty empty and you'd ahve extracted with ease

I thought the same but a good few running around. Still getting world event support.

Division1 DZ was a very good amalgamation of co-op/pvp/pve. There was never any logic to the way it was chopped up for Div2.

Could join you for some extracting on Sunday.

Got back into this over the weekend. Matchmaking on Heroic as much as I can for the manhunt, though I'll probably drop down for control points. I see the Striker gearset is back in a big way.

Some 'leaked' news about the free to play Division: Heartland.

2 modes, Storm which is PvPvE and acts as a survival looter. Then there is Excursion which is PvE and acts as a tutorial to Storm to get used to the map and mechanics.

Got myself the Tobii Eye Tracker 5, wow, it's really good adds a whole new immersion to the game when you get used to it

What do I need to collect for the manhunt to reopen? I've got the first 2 guys done, but forget what I need to do now.

Nvm, no sooner had I put it up here, it opened.

Wow. 3 years on since the last post…Anyway the new Brooklyn DLC is out, finally some more map area. I think I'm about 2/3 through and so far it's decent. Not as good as WoNY but I'll take what I can get. I finally bowed out of the seasonal stories about 8 months back when they did a pretty cringe 'Look who's back from the dead' moment and starting this one will just increase that rage if you aren't prepared but still it's hope that Div3 is somewhere on Ubisoft's radar.

The DLC is decent, nothing earth shattering and I'd say about half the size of WoNY in both map and content. The mission firefights in particular are quite different to the norm. Rather than the more typical tactical play, finding the 'right' spot to setup and pretty much stay there for each segment you will constantly be hit with fireteams popping out of doors and windows around you. It's an interesting change that keeps you on your toes but at times it can feel a little cheap, and I think trying to play this through with a distance/sniper build would be a lot more frustrating. Brooklyn itself does not have the atmosphere of The Div1, well it's not Xmas anymore for one but also the lack of non-enemy NPCs means you can't go back to the great atmosphere in that version of NY - the sense of social shock, the little stories happening around you with survivors interacting are jarringly missing. It's new map area and that's really it.

Where it really and I mean REALLY falls down is the writing and voice acting. The Div2 was a better game technically but worse in both of those areas overall and this DLC lowers the bar again. 2 'Dead' villains are back and following the cliched anti-hero trope, the dialogue is basically transactional and lacking any life or snap with voice acting that does it the little respect it deserves. And it just gets worse as it goes, the ending 'big bad' is a joke and the final lines as you destroy it are comically bad.

Overall at 15 bucks or so it's still worth it just for more Div2 after all this time but it's hardly a must-play.

Can you play it even if you very little of main game played?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭_CreeD_

I think it comes with a boost to level 40 if you want to jump right in but I would not advise you to. The main game and WoNY DLC are better imho and worth experiencing first organically. Plus you'll have spoilers for a good chunk of the game (and a lot of WoNY).

Got an itch to play a looter shooter and picked this up on Steam this week. I played a lot of D1 and really enjoyed putting builds together. I kind of bounced off of D2 at launch. Found the enemy AI way too aggressive and at the time I don't think there was as much fun builds to be put together as D1 but maybe didn't give it enough time.

Playing on an Ultrawide monitor and it looks great for a game of it's age. Downloading on Steam Deck now which should be handy for some grinding.

Gonna just plod through the campaign again and relearn the ropes. Looking forward to getting to the point where I can get some fun builds together and will probably pick up WoNY when I get to that point.

It's a very different game now from launch. It went through I'd say 3 radical and massive combat and build mechanic changes over the years and is in a really good place there imho for versatility and fun. On the flip side you now have about 40+ specialised gear sets to make sense of so it might be a bit overwhelming. Keep an eye out for the Memento exotic backpack though, it's godlike and works with pretty much every build and playstyle, one of those pieces you'd have to have a serious reason not to ever use.

Combat definitely feels better. If I recall, on release when I played, almost every enemy would rush you, whether they were a melee enemy or had a sniper rifle, didn't seem to matter.

I'm only level 8 but enjoying clearing missions and trying out skills as I go along to refamiliarise with the mechanics. I like how they give you a drop of a basic gear set at certain levels to get used to build combos.

I think I mainly ran Striker on D1. If I recall, The House was where is was at for building crazy stacks. Looking forward to getting to max level and starting getting decent drops and tinkering with builds. I see a lot on Reddit giving out about Lexington drop rates so looking forward to never getting that but having fun trying :)

Is WoNY worth picking up? I know I got to finish main game and I think get to WT5 first but I'm level 13 now so I'm leveling quick enough. I enjoyed NY environment in first game. It's on sale on Steam

WoNY is excellent as a DLC from a gameplay perspective, expands the map, has some great missions and does a good job of tying D1 and D2 together. A ton of new content and a satisfying plot plus ending to some threads from D1. Unfortunately some of the recent seasonal content and the Brooklyn DLC kinda **** on that but on your first play through it will be satisfying.

My only issue with WoNY is a mistake many sequels or add ons make, it essentially resets your D1 progress story wise and just reverts to the same bad guys are now doing better than ever. It makes what you did and your current suspension of disbelief/emotional engagement worthless.

I took a wee break from this, but back playing the last week. I'm level 31 now after finishing the Capitol Hill Stronghold. A new faction has popped up and a bunch of strongholds to be repeated with these enemies populating them are on the map.

Do you think I should plough on with these, or would I be better off to start WONY at this point?

I don't want to start WONY too early and miss out on important quests or side quests. But I'm conscious the game has changed significantly in recent years so don't want to waste time doing side quests etc if they become meaningless after WONY as I'm guessing I'll be level 40 after WONY.

It's been many years since I did a normal playthrough but it sounds like Black Tusk have appeared. This should set off a new set of missions that you definitely should finish in DC first. Once that's all done head WoNY-ward.

Is the Boards group still active?

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,219 ✭✭✭_CreeD_

Not really. I used to log in at least for the seasonal content (Username - Ahriakin) and noticed one other active regularly but that's it. Still if you aren't planning on joining another ingame clan you can join it to have a chance at the occasional clan reward cache.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,860 ✭✭✭skerry

Sound. Yes Black Tusk appeared so I'm running the same strongholds I did a few levels back but different enemy type so it's mixing it up a bit. I'm level 35 and moving onto Pentagon mission next so will keep working through rest of DC missions before WONY. Should easily be level 40 by the time I do WONY and change of scenery will be good
