Downloading now for me on Gamepass on Series X. Needed to search for the game title. Then click on the price as though gonna buy it. But before you get option to pay you have option to install. Boom. Now let's see if its worth the hype...

Good server training for GTA6 launch day, which will have a file many times bigger and have all the normies / non-sickos trying to download it too :p

On PS5 now. They had to make the entire store inaccessible for a bit while they fixed it.

Silksong is evidence that every game is better with a Zelda 2 downward trust attack that bounces off enemies.

    Now it’s diagonal!

Some very fun platforming mechanics with it an hour or two in. Feels immensely satisfying to chain the bounces together.

Will any of you be getting Borderlands 4 on Friday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,652 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Possibly. Then again could be more likely to wait for reviews and see what the reception is. Pretty much everything they've said about the game in terms of what they've learned/changed from Borderlands 3 sounds great, but I think I'll wait it out.

Borderlands 2 was absolutely brilliant and I sunk hundreds of hours into it. Everything from Borderlands since has been a very mixed bag.

The internet humour in this one is apparently only 5 years out of date.

Apparently in Conan o brien clueless gamer latest skit, he plays borderlands 4 and there's supposed to be a huge spoiler bear the end of the video. After a lot of comments letting them know, the have made the video private. I'm mad to see what the spoilers are (i won't be playing it)

Considering how sensitive some neck beards are about the slightest spoilers I imagine it's something as benign as the story set up. Like getting upset you find out the trex escapes in Jurassic Park.

Is anyone playing Borderlands for the story?

Looking for recommendations for platformer games like mario old school? im on pc so access to anything available. BTW I cannot get emulation going on my pc im absolutely clueless when it comes to tech lol

Emulation is pretty easy in most cases these days. Get an emulator and open the ROM file. It's harder setting up the wireless on a PlayStation.

Anyway I'd highly recommend Klonoa 1 and 2 on PC for platforming on PC. Two wonderful and largely ignored platform games.

I've heard great things about pizza tower although it's more like warioland 4 than Mario.

Spark the electric jester is a sonic type game.

There's also Shovel Knight which is fantastic.

Anything else I can think of would be in the hardcore platforming genre, think meat boy, vvvvvv or Celeste and wouldnt really be like Mario world.

I actually really liked the story in Borderlands 2. Under the surface of all the memes and stuff, they had a tremedous villain, some great story beats, and some decent enough heartfelt moments (particularly the Tiny Tina DLC). Even the story in the Pre-Sequel was pretty good, including the Claptrap DLC.

BL3 was rubbish though. Awful writing, awful characters, awful villains.

Nobody is playing Borderlands for the story (most people don't play any game for the story), but when done right it's a nice addition.

Rayman Legends is one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played. It's as good as anything Nintendo have done. And it's only a few quid these days. Absolute bargain.

    2D or 3D?

3D wise, Penny's Big Breakaway is really fun and feels like it dropped right out of the 90s. On sale at the moment too. Have heard good things about Lunistice, which is only a fiver. I have it in my library but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'd also always recommend Psychonauts 2, which is a real wonder and absolutely full of imaginative ideas.

2D for pure platforming the likes of Celeste, Hollow Knight and VVVVVV are highly recommended. A lot of others fall more into Metroidvania territory.

Do any of you have an easy guide for setting up emulation?

Depends on the system you want to emulate. CD base 32bit systems and up aren't that trivial to emulate but 8 and 16 ones are. Basically download the emulator, download your ROM files and you just open the ROM file from the emulator. They all have easy to use windows UI for changing controls and the like but will have a default control scheme for common Xbox or PlayStation controllers.

    The best emulators would be:

    SNES: SNES9x

Megadrive: Blast Em or Genesis Plus

    NES: Mesen or FCEUX

You only need the bare minimum technical skills to run these, of you can use word or excel you are halfway there. Download them, install them, put your roms in a folder. Open the emulator and away you go.

No doubt the ones retro lists are better but I went through an arcade nostalgia phase of wonderboy, metal slug etc. a few years back using MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator). Very easy to get setup.

I would recommend mame for all arcade emulation and it's by far the best option but it's slightly more complicated to set up than those emulators listed above. I think it's maybe best dark knight dips their toes in with the ones above before graduating to mame. Some games can be hard to set up and they are constantly updating the requirements for roms so different roms might not work depending on the version of mame. There's also stuff like Street fighter where you need a base from and then a second rom set to play the updated edition like championship edition. And then some arcade systems like the neo geo require a bios file.

However if you do want to emulate more systems and interested in playing arcade games I'd highly recommend mame as your next step.

Would second this, the auld fella got into emulation recently, even got as far as softmodding a wii to get homebrew up on it and play snes games on that, but he got frustrated with mame emulation.

@DARK-KNIGHT I'd def take a crack at snes/megadrive emulation, they are pretty much like running windows apps now. Gameboy emulation is also very easy to do, I was selling them on floppy disks with pokemon on them in secondary school :D

Mame is fine if you can find a ROM set for the version of mame you have. The lads at mame are doing gods work making very accurate emulation but it sometimes means they go back and make the emulation of certain games better and that requires a new ROM set. Also worth getting bios packs.

I like retroarch but it really has a UI issue. It's way too complicated for what it is and sometimes you have it set up. Nicely and it updates and you lose all those settings. But it is nice to have something that runs pretty much all systems nicely with a CRT filter so they look gorgeous rather than a pixelated mess. But again, not for beginners.

I've been enjoying the marketing for the upcoming Pokemon game. Between this and the horror movie featuring autoerotic asphyxtreebel they seem to be veering wildly off brand.

Was thinking my username should really be

    SuperBrowserWorld

considering I spend my life in a browser.

And also, Nintendo won't sue me.

It's ok as long as that superbowser wasnt summoned in the field like nintendo's patent states.
