Yeah, there was a VR game too – Star Trek: Infection.

But I lost interest as soon as I read "VR" in the blurb tbh.

Found memories of "Elite Force" game from back in the day. Hopefully the new one is just as good.

    That's a purchase, looks great.

I mean on the one hand, you lose Tuvok.

But on the other hand, you lose Neelix!

On balance, probably the right call.

Could potentially have a very short first playthrough. Chakotay said something about abandoning the Ocampa while still in his Maquis gear.

That Looks very good. What would one need to play it?

Imagine the decisions you could make. Don't stop at as many planets as Janeway always did. Don't go into Borg Space etc. Keep Tuvok.

    Sounds good. A great idea.

    Peace and long life.

A demo for this just released on steam!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 534 ✭✭✭eadrom

Damn! I don't have a Windows machine at the moment to play it :(

Some chatter on Reddit sounds mostly positive, but I'm never sure if that forum can be trusted. Still a few people saying it feels a bit cheap, with no voice acting or even licenced music, and performs poorly. But otherwise people saying they like it. I guess with no release date set yet, things could change with the voice acting, music, performance. The company behind it does seem very small though.

Anyone here have a go yet?

Haven't had a chance yet, though I suppose that it is just a demo so perhaps there is a bit more work to be done. Though then again it is a Trek game, with all the issues those generally have…

Yeah, that forum can be a bit unreliable in terms of an objective assessment. I used to be there a bit but over the past few years I've generally found it a bit too positive about things.

Ooooooh. Now to try find the time to download and play it

Was able to install this on my Linux laptop, the intro works (at a very low frame rate), but once you get to the bridge where Janeway starts talking you can't move on. I'll try it on the better specced Windows PC at some point.

First thing imma do, promote Harry Kim

So I got to play if for literally 20 minutes during a meeting.

The Demo is basically a tutorial of the first episode. Caretaker and fixing up the ship.

It's basically Fallout shelter in space, or 'The War of Mine'

Each mission has risks, chances of success. Etc

    What I liked

Graphics are cool. Zoom really close into the ship and see it all working

Proper turbo lifts, not Discovery Tardis

    Odd /disliked

Lack of voice acting is strange. My brain keeps filling in the text with Janeway and Kim, etc

Tuvok wearing wrong uniform (should be Maquis outfit) (I know game breaking lol)

Neelix appears to have automatically joined the crew.

    What I've done...

-Explored a system collecting fuel for the ship

    - fixing up the rooms and built quarters

    -Caretaker away mission

-Thinkering with the war core to increase power

    - tried to increase ship morale (rations -50, replicators +5) can assume Neelix cooking will be -200

    Thats it so far!

I enjoyed the demo, has plenty of potential but hopefully will get fleshed out so that it is not too repetitive. Took me about 80 minutes to finish it.

Plenty of individual systems to tinker with and seems a decent tech tree and multiple resources to manage. I did have to spend time even in the demo to replenish resources in between events so as not to run out. The combat also has potential, it's mostly automated and you click on your chosen officers to perform their skills when they come off cooldown, I imagine that their use will be more strategic in future combat or it will get boring quickly. As a demo it did its job and has me curious for the full game which I will probably buy barring horrible reviews.

The game needs some optimisation though as it shouldn't run this poorly though it wasn't horrible either.

Played 10 mins and bored, getting no audio, no Trek music and boring gameplay, the cut scenes looked decent

Is that actual game dialogue or something you entered in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,209 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Reddit. Claimed ingame dialogue. Haven't gotten that far yet.

In game dialogue, I finished the demo last night. Not too bad, looks good and the gameplay is okay, though I would worry about it perhaps getting repetitive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,209 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

    Finished the demo.

I destroyed the Kazon ships and used the array to get back home.

    I then arrested The Maquis.

Harry Kim now has a chance at promotion.

Brilliant. Well done and Voyager does not have to be stranded in the Delta Quadrant for 7+years. That can all have a normal life in your reality well done.

Well until Janeway **** it all up again by going back in time to save her favourite pet drone.

Giving the demo a shot and thought I loaded the wrong game for a second when I glanced over at my main screen.
