From memory, wasn't there was an expectation that the 2022 panel would move quickly, in anticipation of a lot of POs retiring after a backdated pay deal came in - or maybe some part of the Haddington Road Agreement being rescinded? I recall some speculation like that, anyway. But for whatever reason, the numbers expected to retire… just didn't.

Straight after the interview I took some notes trying to recall as many questions as I could:

How do you motivate your team? Teams was brought up a good bit throughout the interview.

What do you do if somebody in the team is underperforming?

What does empathy mean to you?

Tell us about a difficult negotiation you had to conduct?

When did you have to change your communication style? (as previous style was not working).

What is a difficult decision you had to take?

How do you communicate with individuals and then also groups?

What would you bring to the civil service?

    Something about research and analysis???

How do you measure the results of a project?

When you have multiple projects how do you prioritise?

    Hey all,

Has any one started getting interview requests or have an expectation of when they will start that process? Seems like the Stage 1 assessment (released on July 25th) was earlier than expected.

It's my understanding they're reviewing applications now to re rank people based on those, and following that there'll be an interview call. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about the application review step by the end of this week.

A previous competition I took part it gave an OOM after tests, then took 8 months to shortlist all based on forms. At that point everybody got a new OOM. One person I knew was top 20 after tests and cut after form shortlisting!

I hope your guesstimate is accurate @APapplicant2021

Happened to me. Shortlisted in 2019 (failed interview).

Better form in 2022 as 3 years more experience. Passed exams. Not shortlisted.

    Go figure!

Let's hope this doesn't happen again, 8 months would bring us up to the current end of this panel's life.

that was a two year competition so think they were a little lax. Hopefully we’ll get news much faster for this one.

I'm basing it off the info from the 2022 panel thread - results of stage 1 were out 27/04 and stage 2 then 13/05. Took absolutely zillions of years to start placing people from that point mind. Do you mind sharing what competition that was you were part of?

Happened to me with AP competitions. Passed all tests, passed interview, failed e-tray. Passed all tests, passed e-tray, failed interview. Failed one of the tests (that I'd previously passed!)… And on it went… Doggedness is apparently an AP competency!🤣

Does anyone have any indication of how many will be considered in batch 1 and when the shortlisting might be announced? thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭2021_AP

No clue but would love to be put out of my misery soon

Given we’re now in holiday season, is it likely any major news will come in advance of the month end or September? ETA the competition booklet only specifies that shortlisting will occur in August - not that the results will issue, and there’s no indication that interviews will necessarily be in September ( although given the projected length of the panel, you’d hope so).

Yes I reckon it will, with first interviews scheduled for late August/ v early September

    I’m with you!!

I also expect/hope for this timeline, we've holidays in mid/late September booked!

anybody know whether we get notifications on how many are being shortlisted or is it just going to a communication notifying you whether you passed shortlisting or not. Just trying to understand the sequence for stage 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 DonutLike

in previous competitions everyone got a message advising if they passed shortlisting or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,926 ✭✭✭tea and coffee

I'm hoping for tomorrow but also not, because I need to get off my a## and study for the interview, just in case

Friend also in this comp emailed public jobs re stage 2, shortlisting currently happening.

I wonder why they haven't announced how many they are bringing to shortlisting. They can't be shortlisting all 1,800 can they?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 DonutLike

They probably are shortlisting all. The test is the first cull and from that shortlisting based on form is the second. Looking at the form weeds out those who may have just been lucky at tests.

Only doing first 150 i think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 query12356

Is there anyway of finding out if this is true? Would seem an awful waste of only looking at 150

would be a bit mad to go through 1800 applications now when realistically they’ll only need to interview max 100 to get 30-40 on a panel

Have a passing interest in this as a good friend threw their hat in the ring. The new application process, as explained to me, would seem to indicate that they would go through all the applications and see if they match to specific departments/areas. Or have I gotten that totally wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 DonutLike

I think they’ll only do the skills matching for those who are successful at interview.

Yes, that's my understanding. Panel of X people. Job comes up, it's a role in a division that makes policy, they skip the first three on the panel who all happen to have lots of internal/corporate services type backgrounds, offer it to #4 who has experience in a policy-based area.
