Ok so what tweaks can be made? Using Deye 12 kW FYI, battery is quite large (~50kWh) so I need to dump power right after charging on EV rate:

    image.png

Edit - Strange, cant seem to get the automation working. Its switches the work mode but draws from the grid instead of using the battery entirely. When I switch the Work moder timer back on I can charge / discharge the battery with no issues. What is the trick to getting the automation working?

I got this msg in the automation log also: '[Fri Jun 20 00:00:13] Active table row changed twice in 15m00s. Suspending rule table automation for 10m00s. Consider adding a gap between table row end and next row start.'

Edit 2 - ok I think I misunderstood how the automation works. I think it makes sense now. It's used in conjunction with the timer. My automation just sets the work mode condition. So I've matched the work mode times with those of Automation #2 - work mode

Are people connecting the Lynx Smart Shunt to Solar Assistant raspberry pi using a VE direct to USB cable? Can then output the data from solar assistant to HA via MQTT?

Hi everyone I need some guidance on settings for Deye inverter with a 16Kw DIY batter.
I just manage to assemble the battery and connected to the inverter, but no joy.
Inverter will connect to the battery, but seems not to use it to power the house(discharge).

This is late in the evening when not much power produced from PV, and I was expecting to use the battery for sustaining the house load.

P.S. Battery was not charged after assembly.

    this are the settings:

I've changed battery type between battery voltage and lithium with lithium mode set to 00 and it behave the same.
Now is left on litium mode 00 with CAN comunication.

I then enabled charge from grid, in battery settings, second menu, and is charging just fine with around 40A as set.

Should I expect to behave normally and start using power from the battery to the house when battery is full?
In System Work Mode should I do other settings, Time of Use is not enabled.

Did you try enabling time of use mode

    Bellow are the BMS settings:

I have not tried to enable time of use. I don't want to export from the battery, at least not yet.

I will enable it for a test tomorrow.

Export from battery is only gonna happen in "selling first" mode

The power is the max the battery will discharge at

I enabled Time of Use and battery is powering the load.

I was expecting to work without it enabled according to the manual.

A photo wit my Deye inverter and battery.

Some cable management needs to be finished for the battery cable, but is working.

For those of you with the 8.8kw deye inverter what is the max in terms of panels you have connected. I see the max voltage mentioned online is 500v which seems low considering it can take over 10000w pv input.

Currently have 400v max connected to one mppt of my sofar and 250v max to other but on a 6kw inverter. It specified 600v max input. Just surprised that a bigger inverter has a lower max voltage

@SD_DRACULA think I recall from posts here you have this deye model. In terms of input to yours what voltage have you on each mppt?

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,277 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

On the deye you have have parallel connections on each mppt that's how you have the higher power with lower max voltage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,689 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Yeah that basically, my voltages are mid 400s for strings of 12

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,307 ✭✭✭irishchris

Would two strings of 400v not be over the max of the inverter itself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,689 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

Nope, the amps double not the voltages, as it parallels the strings.

However you can't do 12 panels facing S and 12 panels facing N (or any other direction) on the same mppt, you need to have the same aspect (or close to it), same number of panels, same voltages.

You need to look at the VOC of panels. Some are much higher than others

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

Fyi, If you parallel PV strings they should be fused.

They would be paralleled inside the inverter (strings connect to different ports on the same mppt) you're not joining them together so I don't think is needed?

Sorry to jump in but could you please tell me where you bought the Deye (or Sun Synk) inverters? I haven't been able to find out who the official distributor is in Ireland and am a bit concerned that if we get one from an unofficial distributor there might be issues with getting support or downloading updates or something like that? Maybe that wouldn't be a problem though..

We are looking to get a single phase 12Kw inverter. Would really appreciate any info on where to buy it.

I very much doubt you'll buy anything larger than 5.5kW in Ireland, given the ESBN restriction.

    Solarboss do Sunsynk 5.5's

So Alibaba, or there's an eBay seller in Germany of Deye's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7 RC_Galway

    Thank you for that.

I presume the ESBN restriction only applies if you are connecting to the grid?

Solarboss want €2k incl. VAT and shipping for a Sunsynk 5.5kW 😂

Even at the height of the market in 2022, they were €1350 + VAT in Kelliher's (who no longer stock them)

Handy to have an alternative like Solarboss around, I actually bought a single solar panel from them a couple months ago as non of the others did as big a panel as they had. But expect to grossly overpay if you buy from them…

I need your guidance on setting overnight charging.

I've moved to energia 2-6AM cheap tariffs and last night enabled overnight grid charging from tou menu.

In the morning around 8AM the battery was happily charging from the sun (was around 93%).

It seems overnight the only grid usage was to cover the house load and not charging the battery.

Bellow are the settings for Time of Use.

Does it require to enable grid charge in battery settings menu?

P.S. House load overnight is around 1-1.5Kwh.

You should enable Grid Charge in your last picture.

In Battery Setting, tick Grid Charge. It's set at 40 amps too, btw.

If I enable grid charge in battery settings will this not charge the battery outside the time of use schedule?

I dont want to charge the battery from grid if it gets bellow 30% during the day.
