Yes, changed it to 315Ah. I'm wondering if I somehow set the remaining capacity parameter under that to 0 accidentally? I really don't think that I did, but how is that figure calculated?

There was a two week gap between top balancing the cells and me getting around to building the battery, top balancing took longer than I thought it would, so ran right up to my holiday. Would that affect it?

Is the only reason to buy a V2 box is to make your set-up look "pretty" ?

500 euro is a fair whack especially considering I could whip together my own plywood box for peanuts.

Consider just setting the battery to Lead-Acid type on the inverter. Let the inverter calculate it's own SOC and let the BMS manage the batteries.

Yeah set to voltage and charge the battery until its thinks its full (shouldnt take much if they are already top balanced)

Convenience, Time, Ability, Strength, Compression of cells (not sure how important it is).. all come into play.

It also includes the BMS, Nice PCB for very easy cable management, MCB/Breaker, Good terminals to connect/parallel batteries,

Can get a battery fully up and running in an hour or so.

Will it still charge even if it's got a red warning light (the red SOC protection warning in Studio) on it?

Sorry for the basic questions on this, thanks for the advice!

I've just asked for a quotation. Looking forward to seeing what they come back with.

I decided to experiment with it and see what happens…

I manually set the charge parameter to about 22%, then hooked it up. It took about 30 seconds for it to read that it was at 98%.

It now seems to be working fine, inverter sees it with no issues apparent.

EDIT: Ah, it seems I spoke too soon. It's gone to 0% again. Most unusual.

I have figured it out, and yes, it was my fault 😂

One of the connectors wasn't torqued enough.

I just started to build the first V4 kit which arrived a couple of days ago. I have 2 of them. I have opened the first kit and was planning to build that and then make a video on the second build once I knew exactly what I was doing.

However, in typical Fogstar fashion, I seem to have the wrong accessories kits. Out of 3 previous kits, the sent me the wrong accessories kit twice. I mailed them after the order to tell them I was doing a build video and to make sure everything was checked and shipped.

Now, out of 5 kits, I have 4 wrong accessories kits 😫. It looks like I might only be missing the JK BMS connections and was given the old active balancer kit instead.

Can you confirm a couple of things.

    1. Do you happen to have the accessories kit box, or photo of what was written on yours?
    2. The image below taken from a Fogstar PDF. These are are correct 3 looms?
    3. The small one on the left (1). Where does that terminate?
    image.png

It's not a huge deal, but it's still annoying all the same, because anyone getting the wrong kit will probably think they messed up, or lost something. I'm happy enough I can still put it together 90%, but will have to delay the second battery build.

The one on the left, as it looks like the neeeey balancer, is the most positive.

As it can support up to 24 cells or something.

It will be on the same cells as the +ve of cell 16

So, as I thought, the small loom will go to +16. Now I just need to get Fogstar to send two looms out.

I have to say, the V4 kit is much improved. Most of the wiring is already done. They made a few mistakes in their own video, but those are irrelevant now based on this new kit. They just need to get their sh!t together and stop sending the wrong stuff.

Almost finished the first one now. Just have to put the top back on. I'll be able to turn it on and update params if I want. With the built-in breaker, it makes it safe to break the circuit and connect the active balancer another day.

I’m not sure it’s a Solis inverter, just checked it is a Hybrid.

A branded battery of 5kWh is typically around €2.5k.

For around €1.7k you could get 15kWh if you go the DIY route with the likes of Solis. Well worth it. Plenty of videos out there, including a whole series I made on YouTube.

If you’re Dublin based, I’d be happy to help out if stuck. My own inverter is also Solis.

There are guys who sell the pre-made ones for about €2.1k and charge extra to install. Not a bad deal at all

Not so big. The one on the right is the latest version. I'm building 2 of them at the moment for my FiL

What’s name of that battery and do you have any prices on it ? And I was reading that I’d need a change over switch to be fully independent from the grid. Any idea of the cost for this ?

So, the Seplos battery above will cost differently, depending on what you choose. Great value no matter what.

If you are willing to buy the kit and build it yourself, it will set you back around €1,700.

If you buy one pre-built by someone else, you are looking at €2,100.

If you want someone to install it for you, probably €2,500, which is what you pay for a branded battery and a third of the storage.

Change-over switch for when the grid loses power would be around €800 I would guess. I remember someone saying about €600 3-4 years ago. I don't have one, as it's extremely rare to have a power cut where I live.

PM me if you have more questions about the seplos battery stuff, so i'm not repeating from other threads.

Hi ghost, most of you questions have been answered, from memory there was nothing on the accessories box although it had been opened and re-sealed to add the 8-9 busbar.

While I think on the Seplos what way do you connect the two/three batteries that you run together only I was looking at the two in the apartment and couldn't get them to work as one master slave, so the V4 I have the CAN connection to inverter and then what RS485's do I connect from the second bat to the first?

    Thanks

Easy mistake. Connect to RS485(1) on the second battery to RS485(2) on the primary battery.

    Around the 13 minute mark.

Got a quote totalling €1,350 DDP for a 16kWh DIY battery from Yixiang. The box, 314Ah EVE grade A cells, 200A JK BMS . Serious value.

    12 months ago I was getting quotes of €2,400 for a 10kWh.

EU warehouse is out of stock so it'll have to come by slow boat from China.

That's a great quote. I asked them today about similar setup and it works out $1858 which is about €1554.

Anyone ordered from the crowed below? They work out the same price but looks like they have stock in EU

Hi all - I have a Solar PV system and am finally getting around to planning to add a battery to the system; we intentionally included a hybrid inverter from the start to give us this flexibility for the future.

This is the model we have: Sofar 6000 inverter

Can anyone advise on the best way to move forward, or recommend someone who will build and install the battery (I am not particularly blessed when it comes to DIY); I heard elsewhere that there were ads on Adverts.ie for pre-built batteries that the seller can install? Our inverter is in the attic, and space is relatively limited; does the battery need a separate power outlet? Thanks to anyone who has time to respond!

Look back in the thread and you can see pre-made batteries selling very cheap. They only connect to the inverter and many on here I'm sure would be glad to help you do it if the site is still here or if not there are other online forums who will as well. Just be sure to post anything you intend to buy if you go that way here to be sure it's what you need and will do the job you want it for.

Expect to pay around €2k for 15kWh. Maybe search "Seplos" in FB or Adverts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 391 ✭✭mjatkey

Just bear in mind that anything 15Kwh capacity will have to be built in situ, theres a few guys on Boards that will supply and fit for that sort of money or have ago yourself there are loads of video's out there and our very own ghost has a whole series of Seplos videos on YouTube including the Fogstar V4.

Batteries don't have AC connection only DC into the inverter, shorter cable run the better.

Can get a 15kW battery into an attic with a hoist, from experience...

So I'm guessing this is one of the options people think I should check out; I will get in contact with him and see how it goes! https://www.adverts.ie/other-electronics/seplos-3-0-15kw-active-balancer-solar-battery/36212824
