I was wondering has anyone here had any experience of buying a car from zucars? I am thinking of getting rid of my ancient Avensis so am on the lookout for a replacement. Would zucars be worth a serious look?

The terms & conditions section makes interesting reading. It wouls be a deciding factor for me.

I couldn’t find anything in their terms thats unreasonable?

Did you get as far as the warranty section? No scarcity of exclusions but maybe as important lots of the inclusions are things unlikely to give problems. One notable exclusion is emission related issues.

Yes, I read the warranty alright. Thats a fairly standard used car warranty. Pretty much a copy & paste of Mapfre or Car Protect

they are fine OP, just apply usual due diligence when buying, and shop whatever deal you get around. Theres a glut of cars out there, still not a lot of value for consumers but plenty of places that will want your money so squeeze whatever you can by having a few options when negotiating

I imagine there are much better dealers out there who prep their cars better and give better warranties tho.. they are a car supermarket after all which is usually bottom of the barrel. I see they give 5 day refunds or 30 day exchanges tho

They owned by joe duffy motors so definitely not cowboys but not a main dealer experience

For what they are, they should be cheaper and have better trade-in offers. For reference, I got a better price and a better trade-in from a main Nissan dealer on a second hand Leaf for a 16 year old diesel back in 2022 - this was a few months before Russia invaded Ukraine and electric car prices soared for a few months.

But aside from all that they seem fairly legit, I don't think they'll negotiate much on price though

You have to take them at face value. They are a car supermarket where cars are bought in, get prepped to a minimum and sold on at pretty much asking price with no negotiation.

Lots of standard dealer facilities such as extended warranty, servicing, car mats, etc can be offered at extra cost. Alot of their stock seems to be from either main dealers that don't meet the retail criteria, car rental companies or directly imported from the UK or Japan. They also buy directly from private owners. Warranties tend to be 3rd party afaik. They are around a good few years now but have less premises than they had a few years back. Cars need to be cheaper than traditional dealers to be considered imo.

I sold a car to them during Covid. I just wanted a hassle free sale and they fitted the bill. I definitely sold it for a bit less than it was worth, but it was Covid times and alternative options were limited. They were fine to deal with, all painless.

alot of joe duffy trade ins - would say its not really to do with cars not meeting standards - just they dont want their main dealers having non franchise stock - they have a place near my job and stock is fairly recent / modern and look mint condition

He said it doesn’t meet their criteria. If the car is from a different brand, it doesn’t meet their criteria. No one said anything about not meeting their standards. And please learn to use the quote button.

They offered me €250 for an old C-Max, to be fair it needed work to get it sell-able, but cartakeback offered me €300 scrappage. Strange thing is, I think cartakeback are part of the Joe Duffy Group as well

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments.

I will now consider my options as the saying goes. I have a few other main dealers to check out first.

I looked at a civic when the limerick one was open. It was for sale with sunscreen hand prints on it. That surprised me, you'd think they'd want a car to look presentable. I. The end, I found another civic with lower miles in better condition, cheaper, in Limerick. It's just another used car place, go in with your eyes open.
