Switching from Eir to Sky - never asked for UAN, probability of getting charged twice?

I think I probably know the answer here sadly, but I'm just about to switch from Eir to Sky after signing up online for Sky's 1gb offer. Currently just out of contract with Eir and couldn't get anything even close to the Sky offer from them.

Ordered the Sky package, rang Eir and they advised to check with Sky to make sure they have the UAN to avoid being double charged. Was totally unaware of this before ordering the Sky deal and don't recall entering a UAN so I rang Sky - they say they can't do anything now as the order has been placed and waiting for activation by an engineer tomorrow (which is surely unnecessary as I'm already on fibre broadband over openeir).

Anyway, the basic question I'm wondering is, even with the two providers being on OpenEir, am I likely to be double charged as I'll now have to give Eir 30 days notice instead of a seamless transfer via UAN?

    Thanks

Sky do not always use OpenEir when more than one wholesale operator is available.

It is quite possible an engineer is due to visit to install a second fibre line from another wholesale operator - if they didn't ask for a UAN then that is probably what is going to happen.

In that case Sky will not automatically cancel Eir and you'll have to serve notice yourself.

Thanks for the reply. Fairly sure only OpenEir is available in my area (rural galway) if that makes any difference?

If another operator (Siro, NBI, Virgin FTTH) is available at a property then Sky have been known to deliver over that even when an existing OpenEir connection is already active.

Only OpenEir is available. No Siro, NBI or Virgin can be got here.

I actually went through the sign up offer webpages again for the Sky deal - it doesn't ask for a UAN at any point. A bit strange surely…

That is very strange so! Interested to see what the tech does when they call out if fibre is already installed.

Nope, was on fibre the past 2 years and going to just move across to sky on fibre.

Postponed the move for a month to avoid a double charge, which isn't ideal as I'll be getting an out of contract rate with eir

This has happened to me and someone else posted similar with open eir.

I gave the wrong old UAN by mistake and they just sent a technician to replace the ONT and the previous ISP had no clue that I’d switched and far as they knew I was still using the ONT that was there before.

He just left the old ONT behind and I just cancelled the old ISP myself.

Is a technician visit needed?, it shouldn’t be if it’s just an ISP switch through open eir.
