I can't see him leaving Leinster at moment. I believe players wanted him, Clarke and Jayo to take over when Jim stepped away in 2019 but John Costello wanted Farrell. He must be well regarded if Paul Flynn backed him.

I think too soon for Ger Brennan but if does get will have a good backroom team.

Not many other standouts as a lot of managers from outside the county managing the top clubs. Trend seems to be appointing ex inter county managers. Recent u20 management teams are not potential future senior managers. County Board taking eye off the ball on this.

Of the starting 15 on Saturday who will be under 30 come next year's championship? I'm counting 5 here, who am I missing:

    Gannon

    Cofaigh Byrne

    McGinnis

    Bugler

    O'Dell

    Howard, MacMahon and O'Leary.

    O'Dell didn't play.

Mickey did actually lay the foundations for Louth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,504 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Ger Brennan stepped away from Louth. Next Dublin manager surely and he'll bring Niall Moyna with him I'd say.

Probably win a couple of AI's now with Dublin.

Will be a big step up though the backroom team should be better than the last group .He will have to be given a couple years and that's no gimme with impatient supporters and at this very early stage Meath could bag a couple Leinster titles over the next while which will add a bit of pressure .Unless some of the lads who will be given more game time next year step up ,it will take a few years to get back to the top .

Given DF told the county board earlier this year that this year would be his last, it would be absurd if they hadn't been working on his replacement. Brennan is one of the few candidates with managerial experience and has had some success.

I'd put my house on it that he will be the new senior manager. Will he take the same backroom team that he had for Louth?

Interesting Colm Keys in the Indo saying his departure not directly linked to Dublin vacancy and that Darcy is the frontrunner though no confirmation if he's interested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,201 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Keys has been wrong before. Will be a big surprise if Ger doesn't become the new Dublin senior manager now, big step up with a lot more expectation on his shoulders, Darcy could well be on Brennan's management team though.

Darcy be suited to coaching role than being the main role.

Cannot believe that Dublin hurling has its biggest game in a generation coming up this weekend, and ye still cant even stop talking about football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,871 ✭✭✭MFPM

Big defeat in football last weekend, a far more end of an era feelingabout it than even last year, manager departs, prospective manager departs a rival - of course these things will dominate. There's also far more support for football than hurling so that's going to be reflected here too! There'll be loads of chat about the hurling in the coming days and next week.

The Dublin women's team is playing on Saturday in a huge match against Cork and they get very little comment here and as for the Camoie team…

Anyone I've spoken to from Cork believe they'll win by 4 or 5 points. Certainly it looks like they'll outnumber the dubs 3 to 1 in Croker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,571 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Would think most will expect to win by more than four or five points .

Looks like it's a sell out. Great to see, even if there'll be way more Cork folk.

Can't wait for it now, be harder to pull off another surprise, but I'll be hoping for a sneaky win

Are you sure you spoke to people from Cork? As a Cork fan anyone I’ve actually spoken to is nervous about this. Dublin were superb two weeks ago and a I think a similar performance will have us in trouble.

Any chance of a late call to Eoin O Donnell?

I'm hopeful that we'll go well. Everything points to a Cork win but i wouldn't discount the idea that Dublin have taken a step forward to really compete with them.

I actually think the Kilkenny game is more a barometer of where Dublin at/heading than the Limerick one. I've watched it back since and we were very competitive in general play and carried a serious goal threat. The problem for us is that we were awful in giving up goal chances ourselves.

That looks to have been addressed with no goals given up to either Galway or Limerick but Cork are the acid test aren't they. If they sniff blood they'll go for it.

If we hold them out and we're not spooked by the occasion I think we can sneak it. Up the Dubs.

No pressure on the lads they can just hurl. Lovely position to be in free go. No expectations. All pressure on the Rebels. Big cork crowd already.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Hill three quarters Dubs, outnumbered everywhere else.

Real danger of getting a Cork accent by full time!

That first half flew by. Cork getting in too easy for goals, obviously. But just about hanging on.

Looking at the positives very few Dublin wides!

Not too disappointed. There's little the lads could have done differently. Cork are miles better physically and tactically they forced us to play a game that emphasised their strengths. We were badly bullied in the middle third.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,571 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Disappointing way to end the season .never thought we were likely to win but it really was men against boys so it just shows how far we have to go before we seriously compete ,Limerick must be wondering how they lost to us .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,504 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Hard luck lads. What an atmosphere of colour and occasion. It was like an all Ireland that first half. After about 20mins a huge roar of COYBIB echoing through Croker. Good to see the hurlers getting a backing.

Cork were near perfect today nobody would have beaten them. It's a shame you hit the crossbar in the first half. Needed every goal chance to try and rattle cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,639 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Had to watch the game in a bar surrounded by Corkonian's and it was a sobering affair. It was a hiring on the scoreboard but in a weird way we did alright today. It was just one of those freak occasions where every attack they had seemed to offer up a goal. Crummie was a huge loss and would have certainly solidified that middle channel that Cork had so much joy in. Credit to Cork though, they played some lovely stuff but there's not a chance in hell Kilkenny will let them play that way if they win tomorrow. Just too many soft shoulders given up today amd looked a fraction off which is all you need at this level to look terrible.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Think saying we did kind of alright is a bit of a stretch conceding 7 -26 is an awful total might have worth it to try and do damage limitation after goal three or four .
