Was feeling confident but have had a wave of nerves all day today. Worried we're coming in without having had any real challenge that can pinpoint our weaknesses and give us opportunities to develop back up plans. We know our half back line has been iffy but nobody has really exposed it so far this year in championship. The puckouts have been poor and I'm worried that if tipp force us into long ones we will be in trouble.

Only good thing is if we are struggling at the bank we have options off the bench. Blanchfield should be going out with a major point to prove when he comes in.

Would like to see Billy Ryan or Cian Kenny in at center forward at some stage, be willing to move lads around up front. Give Mullen time at midfield as well, keep them thinking, and run at them. Long as we're not predictable and we are at top workrate all day we should be good enough. Any lapse in concentration and they will smell blood and come for us.

"Relatively" confident for Sunday. We've been fairly consistent at producing our best performances in semi finals the last few years and should have got the job done last year as well. Seen lads suggesting move Mossy out to the half forward line which I completely disagree with. 6 goals already this year and has a knack of knocking in the scrappy ones because he's in the right spot for a breaking ball. Leave him where he is and hopefully he's fully fit. We've named our best 15 so no excuses, we're either good enough or we're not. I don't expect many substitutions as I don't think there's much confidence in the bench in the management that would cause them to haul any of the front 8 off in particular. My concern is the same as everyone elses and their running power against our half back line. I'm happy enough for Morris and Ormonde to knock over 7 or 8 points between them if it cuts out their running at our full back line and popping it off to the finishers. Happy enough that our full back line can handle their full forward line with standard ball in. It's the draw the man and pop it off to them I'd be worried about because them lads won't miss. Hopefully Cody is bouncing and goes out to hurl rather than get into a scrappy battle with his man and Donnelly should cause damage if Maher sits back off him.

This is the part where I say I hope it's a good game but couldn't give a bollocks as long as we win.

I'll say best of luck to the Tipp lads all the same before the Tipp chant gets on my nerves.

I think Shane Murphy might be in line to pick up Jake Morris. He can comfortably play half back, is a tighter man marker than Paddy Deegan and it’s a left handed hurler on left handed hurler so Morris doesn’t have the same advantage in the air as he would on a right handed hurler.

Darragh McCarthy has had a great year but he has appeared to hit a bit of a wall (which is understandable when teams understand his game from having more footage on him). He had a tough time of it on Ivan Bolger in the u20 AI final. I think Paddy Deegan can do a similar job to Bolger and physically overwhelm him.

Agree re Mossy , just hope to God his hamstring holds up. And I was thinking the same about Cody earlier today, hopefully he can get separation from his man and as you say doesn’t get dragged into the stupid macho stuff and concentrates on his own performance. He fell for it last year with Adam Hogan .

Lads, would anyone be interested in taking 2 lower Hogan off my hands (330 Y)?

Happy to let them go for €100. Would have to meet you prior though.

Everyone knows the place is a tip yet they seem strangely proud of it

That's it Dan you don't want to over complicate the chant for those Tip boys. Impressed that it only took you a week to master it 😉

Backed John Donnelly 16-1 for MOTM. Due a big game. Too good of a hurler to be this quiet all year.

Nerves are well and truly setting in for Sunday. It's a huge game for both teams but probably more important for Kilkenny at this stage. Team is as good as we could hope for, assuming everyone is healthy, with the possible exception of Blanchfield who will be a serious player to bring in, as will Stephen Donnelly who is very unlucky to lose out. I feel a man marking job in this game would have suited Tommy Walsh as well so he's another good option to have in reserve. I wonder as well if Mackessy's long range shooting could yet be a factor in the 2nd half, given Tipp like to defend deep and crowd the attacking zones.

I still come back to the fact that despite the fact they have made progress and have good players coming, I'm not completely buying the idea that Tipp have gone from no hopers in January (after 2 dismal years) to potential World beaters all of a sudden. The Munster form is highly questionable this year. Waterford made little or no progress in hindsight, and Clare and Limerick were pale shadows of themselves apart from the one off performances from Limerick v Cork. In that context there's an argument to be made that Tipp have really achieved very little so far with their 2 wins v a hapless Waterford (almost no attacking threat) and an injury ravaged and hunger sated Clare side.

The flip side is when Tipp have played well, they've looked really good, and the most impressive part of their makeup is their togetherness and desire, and that will bring you a long way when you have decent players.

We'll have a much better idea of the real state of Tipps progress by 6pm on Sunday. I think we'll have too much in defence, attack, and midfield, and I'm a little surprised the odds are relatively generous, albeit we've narrowed significantly over the past couple of days. I might live to regret this, but assuming all our forwards are 100%, I believe we'll win, and possibly win convincingly. I think Tipp will have to be significantly better than the sum of their parts, and we will have to underperform, for us not to be looking forward to an All Ireland final for the 3rd time in 4 years.

The game is massively more important for KK than for Tipp. A respectible loss for Tipp would be disappointing, but not the end of the world and the county could look forward to further progress next year.

If Kilkenny lose, I'm not sure where that team goes next. Management change would be certain, some bit of a rebuild probably necessary.

I wouldn't be as sure as you about Management change being a certainty in the case of a defeat, this is Kilkenny after all, the normal rules don't apply with the current county board leadership.

Can See changes in the Camogie team named.

I would be flabbergasted if management survived defeat to Tipp tomorrow.

Lose tomorrow and KK will need a serious look at management as we are not getting over line in too many grades. I am not having a go at Derek but if the county is to get back to winning finals things wil need to change. As previous poster stated thats not a guarantee with this county board.

Anyway best of look to both KK teams tomorrow.

Totally agree. We lost too many all irelands and semi's with this team and management. Im not knocking them but now is the time to throw off the shackles.

Do you have any notion of how these matters work with the county board in kilkenny?

Let's look to the match and hopefully a win. Even a single score win would be excellent. Would love to see dublin get one over on cork but of cork are going to win it, let it be a convincing win. A the pressure and hype would be on them then.

An improved 70+ minute performance and win from kilkenny tomorrow would show significant progress. Fingers crossed

Not sure about the managements doubts. Maybe it's fashionable because of the narrative surrounding issues at U17 and U20, but have we really had the players at senior level to topple that Limerick team? I don't think so.

The only real failure in Lyngs term is the 2nd half collapse last year, and the reliance on introducing players who were past their best when we needed a bench impact. Otherwise he's won 3 Leinsters on the trot, and been beaten in an all Ireland and league final. We're naturally greedy as supporters, but a little perspective and realism wouldn't go astray.

An awful lot of negativity on here discussing what might happen if we lose. I'm sure the lads will have a much more positive mindset and will do the county proud tomorrow. If they can avoid switching off for a period, something which has been an issue this season, then I think they will win tomorrow. Time to get behind them and stop this talk of losing.

We are not talking about losing, all we want is winning everything in sight for a year or two, is that too much to ask.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,173 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

And then another year or two after that. We're not asking for the earth here.

I remember my 1st all ireland in 1979 and honestly don't remember such a bad run while getting out of leinster. 1983 to 1992 we didn't get out of leinster much but we have 6 leinsters on the trot now and nothing to show. We are kilkenny and make apologies. I and loads of fans i know are fed up of losing in these closing stages.

Some statement by Cork today. Hopefully a win for us tomorrow and we come in under the radar for the final. There will be massive hype around them now. Let's get the job done tomorrow.

Let Cork get the hype train going, they will blow themselves up after this

Limerick severally took their eye off the ball v Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 589 ✭✭✭usualstripes

Correct, they weren't in the right frame of mind, but that happens successful teams on the road for a long time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,278 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I actually think the opposite that days like that are understandable with a good up and coming team who are possibly still a bit naive, but with Limericks experience on pitch and sideline it was unforgivable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,237 ✭✭✭kk.man

Limerick we're mentally and physically drained. No matter who they met it would have been the same result.

IIt's on the day.loose focus and you get bitten.limerick this year and us in the semi v clare last year.Im very positive about tomorrow. On paper that's our best team IMO and to have that going into a semi final is massive. Let's go and win tomorrow .
