Buy high flex welding cable and crimp yourself.

I asked the guys at the counter when I was buying the cables to crimp for me and they did no bother, torque = wrist

From doing DIY of battery & solar panels I now have a collection of rarely used tools. I dont want to sell them, but I'm happy to lend them out.

    Bench Charger

    Solar panel connector crimper

    Wire stripper

    Pneumatic assisted Crimper

Battery Capacity tester ( drains using fan )

Mid way through the build of the Fogstar and I can't find the bar to connect cells 8 and 9. I emailed them and they told me that the supplier didn't include it in the latest ones they sent out.

Very frustrating, if they knew about it, why didn't they tell me, rather than make me pull my hair out trying to find it?

Anyone have the Seplos kits outdoors? Any suggestions on an enclosure? Was getting the lean-to at the side of the house done but a full weatherproof is top dollar.

They are sending out the part. Don't have a problem with something being missing, but it's more the fact that I had to get on to them about it. If they knew it was an issue, why didn't they contact me to let me know rather than me having to chase them?

Anyway, will let you know how long it takes

Fresh new Eve MB31 314Ah batteries just arrived.

All batteries have a voltage of 3.29V
    3 cells have 3.291
the rest of them have 3.292 or 3.293

    Within 2millivolts difference.
They do look really good, new, no marks, scratches or bloat anywhere.
    Bought them from YIXIANG

I think it was 74$ with delivery from Poland.
Including a v2 box(waiting to be delivered next week) it was 1580euro (this included 45 euro a payment fee to alibaba)

After checking this is the exact price:

v2 box unit price 548 USD
    EVE MB31 unit price $74
    16*74=1184 USD
    548+1184=1732 USD
    DDP shipping to your address

Have exactly the same kit/cells up and running about a month. Incredible amount of storage and battery working like a dream.

Collected another V4 today, quick look through the boxes, scanned all the cells etc all good, the 8-9 bus bar was on top of the accessories box so thats good.

I notice some of the boards look different to the one i bought in November namely this one, is yours same?

    image.png

Seplos must have changed the design again, last one was this, which matched the one in the Seplos video I used to put it together, no instruction lets hope it goes together ok?

    image.png

Didn't get chance to make a start on the build yet.

Found the answer, so question is can I connect this Seplos to the existing 280L and run them as one battery on on BMS?

    image.png

Final update, of course its just the balancer part of the BMS that has changed so shouldn't be a problem connecting the two Seplos together.

Thanks, yeah I was on to Fogstar last couple of days, as its just the active balancer bit, nothing else changes just means another entity to add to Home Assistant.

For anyone building the Fogstar V4 with JK balancer there is no video specific to the build only the previous Seplos/Fogstar one, plus the link you posted, but I'm sure there is a wealth of info on the web plus there is a JK BMS thread on here, which maybe of help.

It looks very like the neey balancer. Which also uses the same communication as the jk over Bluetooth.

It's good that it's configured completely separately now to the seplos.

Sorry if this sounds a silly question but, is more battery Ah now better when building.

Eg would a person be better to have 16 350ah batteries than 16 280ah etc.

Or does the price point per battery come into it as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,569 ✭✭✭championc

You can never ignore € per Ah.

But you may want to forego that slightly to be able to run the house fully on load-shofted power on a crap day, and 16x 280's might just fall short.

Or you might want to fit them into a pre-fabricated box enclosure, which might only be available for certain sizes

Battery box arrived a week later.
Only need to find time to assemble it.

Re. Product instructions for the installation and storage of the EVE MB31 314Ah LiFePO4 battery

See Andy/Off-Grid Garage on the above topic (starts at 16:14):

"The battery module must be installed or stored upright in accordance with the design state, and it is strictly forbidden to put it on its side or upside down.— 4.13 (bottom of p. 8), EVE Product Specification—Battery Module B131H201 [MB31]. Version V1.0. (Date: 2024-04-01).

Yeah, saw that video and it is very concerning as I have my MB31 batteries vertical and I'd imagine a lot of people do. Hopefully he looks further into it and does a video

Ok so have the new V4 Seplos. together with the JK active balancer, had to do a bit of a mod as it was too far forward and a bit close to the bus bar.

    image.png

Couple of things on the balancer, I've set the start balance vol to 3.45 as per Seplos/Fogstar instructions, what should the Balance Trig be 30mV? Calibrating voltage didn't seem to be adjustable.

    image.png

One thing I do note though is the balancer never switches off, or maybe I have the power wire in the wrong place, I'll ask Fogstar to confirm Monday, just thought it odd that it always on even with the battery switched off.

Just need to get a couple more cables and can then get it connected to the existing 280L, should I have the new V4 MB315 cells as master with capacity at 315Ah

Ok, so I top balanced my cells, built the battery and have configured the JK-BMS app as per Fogstars page, then set up the battery through BMS Studio.

Once connected and seen by the inverter, it immediately triggered a Capa-Warn on the LCD, and looking at it through BMS Studio shows an SOC Alarm and SOC protection. Battery level when I first saw it in Studio was 50%, and now it's showing as 0%.

I've figured out that SOC protection is from the "Under SOC Protect" function, but to be honest, I'm somewhat at a loss as to where to look next. Any ideas?

Have you changed the default capacity from around 280/290Ah to the correct capacity? It should be set to 315Ah for example if that is the cell capacity you are using.
