There were a bunch of the 1000m2 models at the local Lidl now so I pulled the trigger and took one home. After perusing the manual I noticed a couple of items though that made me rethink my decision. Just wanted to get feedback from the community here.

    What I didn't like:

    1. Sound (pressure) level is rated at 59.9dB
    2. Recommended daily operating time for 1000m2 is 16 hours

Re sound level: most robot mowers are rated in the mid-50s from what I can find. There is a good difference between, say, 55dB and 60 dB so I'm wondering if the Parkside mower is just inherently louder that other brands. I like it quiet but I don't really have a frame of reference since this would be my first robot mower. Anyone here who has the means to compare? With a neighbor's model maybe. Could you have a quiet conversation in your garden with the Lidl mower around?

The area I want to cover with this thing is right around 1000m2. Fairly rectangular, maybe 40x25m or so. I don't really want the mower to run more than 8 hours a day, definitely not when it's dark outside. What's your experience with larger areas? How long does it really take to cover? I'd love to have every spot hit at least once a week but with the random path approach I'm not sure if that's realistic.

    Thankful for any feedback. Cheers

You won't hear the mower.....its quieter than a fridge. If it runs for 6-8 hours a day it will more than keep it cut....

Don't worry about the noise level as it's very quiet - just loud enough so you know it's working away.

Agree 6 to 8 hours be plenty

I suspect the db level is for the beeping that it makes when the blades stop spinning, which I’ve found happens when the grass is a little long for it or they get caught in moss. I don’t think it’s for the cutting noise level.

Overall it’s quite quiet. Not silent like I’ve seen from some of the mowers that cost €1000’s, but quite enough that you will hardly notice it.

One side of my boundary has a wall and the lawnmower constantly gets caught there. I probably put the wire too close to it also. Pain in the arse that it always seems to find the spots where the wire is too close.

How often should one change the blades?

Just bought the 500sqm one, set up the boundary wire....it comes out, goes about 1 foot along the wire then just vias off! Anybody have any reason for this? The base has no flashing light so doesn't seem to be an issue with a break in the wire....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 854 ✭✭✭cuculainn

AFAIK that's normal. It's not supposed to follow boundary wire on way out (except once in every 7 times when it mows the boundary) every other time it backs out and heads off randomly. The only other time it will follow the boundary wire is if you set a secondary area. If you set it to start in the secondary area say 50 %of the time, then every second time it will follow boundary wire for the distance the secondary area is set to

Thanks. I haven't set any secondary areas, I have put the wire around the edges and avoided trees etc like in the instructions. When it comes out it basically heads to the left of the boundary wire rather than the right which I thought was the enclosed space . Time to reevaluate whatever the hell I've done lol

Try reversing the cables in the back of the base station. Mine did the same. Loop the cable over the other one to maintain a gap between them at the back of the base station

Has anyone else taken off this front guard? It seems to work a lot better without. Also, I think I need to scarify my lawn, it seems to me like the mower is struggling a bit.

Yeah, I took it off and am much happier without it (the lawn is fairly mossy and it was getting caught)

I have about 800 sq metres, can anyone with a similar area share their schedule please. I have it going every day for 12 hours at the moment, but I really don't have a clue if that's too much or not. Thanks

    Hi,

I want to create a secondary area for my robot mower. I do have a patio between two separate areas. I’ve kept the wires about 2 foot apart going across from main area to secondary area. However the mower keeps going from secondary area to main area. Anybody have this issue and possible solutions. Many thanks

I think I remember reading in the instructions that's its minimum 80 between the wires when creating a path to two areas....

Has anyone had the following error

Mower comes out of base station a little, then insists its "trapped"...screen reads "mower trapped" ....its definitely not

Was mowing away fine for the previous 3/4 weeks or so since I got it under the exact sane conditions…nothing obvious has changed...boundary correct, wires correct

It will then mow if I either press OK and enter pin or turn on and enter pin or off and then on and enter pin

It's not the boundary causing it to think its trapped as it was working fine up to now and boundary connected fine + green light

Is there something on the shell or connected to shell (sensor of some sort) that thinks its bumped into something?

Many thanks. I wonder if there is a gap that size will the mower not consider it as a space to be mowed and move across it from the secondary area to the main area. My preference is it lift the mower and place it in secondary area however I don’t seem to be able to contain it in that area. Don’t know if anyone has that issue

According to the manual, it needs to be at least 1.2m gap for the passageway.

Hi all, just about to lay the boundary wire for one of these mowers. I have a basic question that doesn't seem to be addressed in the manual. Does the boundary wire have to route under the charging station? My plan was to have the charging station at right angles to the boundary wire, but it seems like it must be in line with the wire?

I have the PRMA500A1 (not smart) robot and I had to run the wires in line with the base, at least the positive one, it also needs about 2m of straight wire before the base, otherwise you may have issues with docking. From what I saw, it needs to enter the base at full speed in order to make sure the charging contacts are engaged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 409 ✭✭ra0044

The boundary wire has to run under the base station in the groove as the mower follows the boundary wire back to the base station and in to it. The mower is only stopped by the charging contacts connecting and telling the mower to shut off.

Thanks both, scuppers my plan in hiding the cables powering the base, but I can work with it.

    double post…

I'm trying to figure out if this is an option in my scenario. I've three small areas of grass that are connected together by a patio area, concrete perimeter path from back of house to front of house and a tarred driveway. If I've understood the setup for this mower correctly, a guide wire can be run between areas so that the mower is sent to the right spots…but while I can stick in a perimeter wire for the three areas of grass, I'd imagine that wire connecting the three areas (on tarmac/concrete path/patio slabs) is going to be a mess?

Can anyone who's using that mower advise?

Hi everyone and thanks for this great thread! I am new here and new to the Lidl robot mower.

Owning a 20V PAMR 500 A1 model I discovered it is missing WiFi, so if you are in my situation and willing to add support for it, here is a dedicated thread I recently created.

    Thanks for helping!

The mower operates in a random manner, so it wont stay in the secondary area indefinitely. sometimes mines stays there for an extended period and sometimes it just does one run through and doesnt return. Setting the percentage of time it starts in the secondary area to a higher percentage will increase the amount of time it will mow the secondary area.

the other option is to place it in secondary area and put something to block it from leaving. something that it will bounce off

wire across tarmac will need a cut in tarmac. patio slabs I laid the wire in the joints and filled over the joints again, bit of a pain because the slabs were staggered, but better than cutting the slabs.

I would say if you have to cross tarmac you would be as well to get a mower that doesnt require a perimeter wire

The mower operates randomly, so the time it spends in secondary area will vary. sometimes mine spends a long time in the small secondary area we have and sometimes it does one run through and doesnt return. if you increase the percentage of time the mower starts in the secondary area, that should increase the time it spends there.

Other option is to put something to block the mower from leaving, but obviously it cant get back to charge so not a great option.
