Anything in front of cameras is like that nowadays, unless there's another agenda.

it's great that he's doing well over there but I just can't see Betis offering a fee that would be acceptable for UTD.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

What would that acceptable fee be, 25-30m? It is hard to see.

Had a look at their record transfer fees and got a blast from the past. Denilson is still their record signing (30m) from 98/99 season.

If we can get £20m or more for Antony then he'll be sold. If he keeps performing well we will hopefully see other Spanish teams get interested too but outside of the big 3 over there clubs rarely spend big money nowadays.

need to get €38m to break even for FFP. cant see that happening.

The chances of us breaking even on any of our previous transfers is minimal. It's to the point where we just need to eat the cost and move on. I know money is a huge issue for Utd now and going forward but I'd hope those in charge are more focused on squad renewal than chasing the millions wasted by Woodward. If anyone offers us £20m - £25m for Anthony we should be all over it. Even £15m+ with a sell on wouldn't be a disaster

The maths change if he is sold after 30 June as the charge would go against next season's PSR instead of this season.

His fee was €95m - with a 5 year contract. So €19m a year amortisation charge on that.

Remaining value at start of 2024/5 season - €57m

    Charge for 2024/5 season - €19m

Remaining value at end 2024/5 season - €38m.

    Charge for 2025/6 season - €19m

Remaining value at end 2025/6 season - €19m.

If he gets sold after 30th June then it removes the €19m charge for next season - so anything over €19m (and actually less than that again when wage savings are factored in) would be a positive PSR for 2025/26 season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Surely the €38m remaining value would have to be written off once the player is sold?

In your example, do we have a €19m loss then in the 26/27 season? That would go against typically accounting methods of writing an asset off when actually sold.

If the club does nothing, there's a €19m charge in 24/25, 25/26 and in 26/27.

If the club gets €20m fee on 1 July 2025, then there's a loss on the transfer of €18m, but a saving of amortisation that is no longer going to be charged of €19m (plus whatever the wage savings are).

Net that leaves the 25/26 PSR number €1m better than it currently is - and leaves the 24/25 unchanged.

If they sell him for €20m on 30 June 2025 - then the 24/25 PSR number is €18m worse, and the 25/26 PSR is €19m better.

EDIT - for clarity - this is talking about whether the club would be better off or worse off than the "do nothing" option (which already has a €19m negative baked into it). Not the actual accounting profit/loss

You also have the 7million or so he would be due in wages.

so you have a 26million cost or him next season if he stays.

If you sell for 20million, you then realise an 18million loss - but you (hopefully) don't have any wage against him. So you have 'freed' up 8million in budget space for 25/26, and 26million in space for the following season.

And for contrast - Dorgu has a budget hit of about 7million. (Fee Amoritization + wages). So the budget space freed up by selling Antony for 20million gets you a dorgu level deal.

Perfect, thanks I got confused when you said anything over €19m "would be a positive for 25/26". It took it that it would be a positive number, ie 20m-19m=+1m for 25/26 (with a hit of €19m still to come in 26/27) rather than it being a positive that 25/26 would see us take 1m less off a hit, but have it fully written off.

Wages aside, if we do nothing it's a 19m for the next two years. If we sell him for 20m this July, it's a once off 18m hit.

I think I have it, I'll stop before I confuse myself again.

There is also talk that At Madrid might be interested in him, and tbf he is doing well in spain so likely is attacting the interest of teams outside of the PL - could see teams in Italy and Spain taking a look.

That international break felt so long it nearly feels like the start of a new season. Optimisim will be quickly eroded no doubt…

Insert alternative comms clip here "second half of the season...…"

It should be a tough game tonight. But at the same time I expect united to get a result. I think of we play smart and don't allow forest easy transitions we can beat them. If Woods is out, and mgw is also a doubt, that works be two huge misses for them.

Elanga will probably bag a hat trick....

Happy 20th anniversary on Boards @Mitch Connor

Hopefully a win for you to celebrate!!

Would love to see Mount start tonight…..while he was certainly a luxury and unneeded signing when he came in,he can definitely play a useful role in Amorims system.

We have a very tough run of league fixtures upcoming…..it will be interesting to see if Amorim tries to share out the minutes in those games……in order to keep players fresh for the Europa games……I hope he does exactly that.

Maybe it’s the sun or just being glad to see the back of the international break but I’ve no dread going into this game.

Kind of expecting a decent performance. Bench is starting to look more premiership level again.

    Football is a shambles sometimes.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cvgpl0jnpego

Chelsea boosted their finances last year by selling 2 hotels, to effectively to themselves.

Now they've sold the entire woman's team, again to themselves, to turn a loss into a profit.

They're in danger of being even scummier than City.

Saw that earlier and fear it might not even be an April Fool's!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,400 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Decent team and good to see a small bit of depth returning to the bench

Extra time for forest in the cup on Sat eve might leave them a bit sluggish and Wood missing is a loss

A draw would be a good result imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,734 ✭✭✭✭JRant

That deal is completely nuts. The women's team had a revenue of 11 million last year and posted a net loss of 4 million.Yet they somehow value it at 200 million?

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

A good performance is super important. I'd rather a solid draw than a scrappy win if that makes sense. We have nothing to play for in the league but a good performance that shows we haven't forgot about momentum gained before the break would help.
