I'd say his England career is over.

Southgate picked him regardless of form, I don't think Tuchel will have any sentimental connection to him and he's just not good enough imo

Just seen the extended highlights there now (didn't get to see it last night).

Looked a solid performance by all accounts. Miles better in terms of movement. Dorgu not the finished article yet in terms of passing and touch, but his pace and movement was top notch, and it wasn't all overlapping on the wing either. Zirkzee seems to be coming into his own now, maybe it has just taken this long to get up to speed, but there's signs in the last few weeks he's starting to read the game a bit more. Bruno mixed the quality finishing with some outrageous bad passes, but otherwise was very threatening. Though the defence was solid too, and there's a big difference in our approach when we have pace in the defence, we can push up further. Hojlund for once had a good game too, the assist was quality.

I really liked the fact that when we went a man up, we turned the screw. Yeah it was late to score to finish it off, but from what little I saw, it never looked in doubt we were doing the job, Sociedad were never getting on top, and it was only a matter of seeing the game out. It's been a while since we've seen a "professional performance" from this squad, as in being very comfortable while playing within yourself, but we had that last night.

Just think, despite all the sh!tshow of a season, we're possibly only 5 games away from the Champions League. And I'd be more comfortable of achieving that after seeing a more professional performance like this one.

Still a lot to work on, and one swallow doesn't make a summer, but real signs we can win this Europa League, and reap the benefits of Champions League football next season.

Always rated Fernades as the better option…

I don't really doubt we will get someone. And its not specifically that we have missed out on Quenda. It just feels like there is something not right when we get caught by surprise on a player who was a priority target (apparently), that played for our manager, whose agent is Mendes, and plays for a club we supposibly had a good relationship with. Like everything about this deal says it should be one United should be somewhat in control of, and we weren't even aware chelsea were just getting it done? Or at least that is how it is being presented.

Quenda being reported as £40m and a 7 year contract.

That's as spicy (if not more) than Yoro was and although it looks like we might have got away with that as he's doing well, no way we continue with that kind of spending going forward.

*I know Yoro cost more than that but he's 19 and Real were chasing.

We need a player for next season. If part of the deal that Quenda and Sporting wanted was he had to stay on next season then that just doesn't suit us and we're better moving on.

I think it's probably the last line of your post Mitch.

The narrative of United being a joke shop is the most click-friendly, outrage-inducing option for media outlets.

I can't imagine we've been blindsided by this one.

Striker should be priority first and foremost, this team lacks goals.

What do people think about Johnathan David from Lille. Has a great scoring scoring record and is 25 so coming in to those peak years. Has scored 19, 26, 26, & 23 (so far) goals in the the last 4 years. Could be gotten cheaper than Oshimen.

Edit: think he can be gotten in the free as he's out of contract this summer. West Ham looking at him.

We signed Diego Leon for the LWB spot as well, he'll join us in the summer. He's only 18 next month but is very well built / athletic, and will have a season of senior football behind him. I imagine he'll be going straight into our senior squad as back up / competition for Dorgu.

We need better that Dalot at RWB. No magic goes on in preseason, he's not going to develop into a natural wing back during the summer. To be fair to him, I think he's getting better at the role recently but if we're serious about improving the team, he can't be a regular starter imo. I would have no problem with him being a back up.

Yeah there is nothing in Ornstein’s piece about there being a “secret blitz”.

Just says that United were interested in exploring a deal in January. Maybe they decided against it or were aware that the player decided to join Chelsea and left it. If there was more to it, you would think he would report on that. This is probably being blown out of proportion.

David is available on a free and it's all been very quiet around him. I'd be happy to see us take as I think he can play as both a 9 and a 10. But I don't think he's gonna score 25 goals a season for us, I'd love to be wrong though.

My big takeaway from last night is that if a big offer comes in for Garnacho in the summer I'd take it without a seconds hesitation. He's easily replaced. His decision making is horrendous and I get the impression he'd be much happier as the big fish in a medium pond (Napoli) than being a part in a well functioning team

The game was mad yesterday with how many chances were created and none of the front three looked like the were scoring. Then up pops Bruno and Dalot to bang two in.

Bruno offers goals throughout a season and then Amad was firing pre injury. United need a 20plus man but a 15plus would also add so much.

If Zirkzee could score some more goals he would be some player. Some of the stuff he is going on the ball is very Berbatov like but Berba could score.

Dalot has been involved in nearly all of United's big chances the last few games. Has been setting them up and getting a few on target himself. He has everything you want in a wing back imo, just needs to shed some of the defensive responsibility and get forward more.

Each of the last 3 managers have made him automatic starter so he must be good for something? The way hopes can be put into an 18 year old who's never played a PL game over a reliable player with 200 appearances for the club just doesn't make sense to me. Dalot has been played into the ground and still gives everything and shows good quality. I just hope he doesn't break down.

Yeah but I'm sure there's better value in the market, that's why we've Wilcox and Berrada in now. I know it's early days but we're seeing some signs of players being identified that are outside of the regular conversations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Honestly think we should be looking at him and another striker.
As you said he is very unlikely to transfer his 25 goals to the PL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,513 ✭✭✭Miley Byrne

The only reasons he has been picked by those managers are that he is almost always injury free and there was no alternative to him. He has been woeful now for nearly two years. Being involved in a few goals lately doesn't change that fact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I thought Dalot was one of our better players last year tbh. He was excellent leading up to the WC and then poor-ish after the previous year.

This season I think he has been generally poor with a few exceptions here and there.

Id like us to go for David for free in addition to buying another striker.

I don't think we go for him though, recent history says we don't go for the obvious

I think we should sell dalot. He is rarely injured which is something that needs to be considered. I just think he's at his ceiling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,301 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

It would be crazy to sell him imo. Rarely injured, and provides cover on both wings.

I don't think he's good enough to be a starter if we're trying to improve the team, but he's an excellent squad player to have.

Bruno has a few "haters" in the dressing room if the match ball is anything to go by 😁

You were still sh1t first half...

How much you paid the ref...

Should have said “didn’t think we would ever get the ball back after your free kick” 😁

The death stare after Dalot fecked up 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭Toranaga

    The only reason. One reason.

Why is he picked for Portugal then? No alternatives there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

But then Walker and Henderson are in the squad…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

A Bola reporting the fee for Quenda is 50m PLUS up to 50m (euros) in Bonuses - with the expectation 25m of that will be triggered safely!

If United weren't blind sided and were told that is the offer they have to match (and it is true….) then no way should we have matched that, even if we could.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Mason Mount likely to make the bench on Saturday.

If he can stay fit for the remainder of the season I think we'll keep him. Amorim seems to be a huge fan. But if (?when) he conks out again then it'll be the final nail in the coffin. Especially with the wages he's on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭Seattle

You think there's a choice involved?

Who exactly is going to take a risk on Mount with the salary he's on given he's been injured for almost all of the last 3 seasons?

He's here to stay and all we can do is hope he can regain his fitness for a consistent period.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭jacool

Mount has played 35, then 20, and this season, 12 games. Unlike the yellow pack food in Tesco's at 21:55, I don't think he could be given away, for free, at this point.

    So about e100m guaranteed.

Id love to know how they still comply with psr. I dont think there are many hotels left to sell.
