This is the first festive season I've had Christmas FM as the main station in the car, radio in the kitchen etc., and I'm enjoying (why else would I have it on!), but I've noticed a few songs have been and gone from the playlist since the end of November. During the first week, the song by Straight No Chaser seemed to be on every time I switched the station on, but since then it seems to be off the playlist. On the other hand, I was disappointed that The Frog Chorus wasn't being featured - and now I've heard it twice in the last 12 hours. Do songs come and go depending on audience feedback?

I also noticed during the first week that Band Aid 40 was the only Band Aid being played…now that has been dropped and it's nearly always the original on (and occasionally the 2004 version.)

Some of the newer Christmas songs (Leona Lewis, Arianna Grande) don't seem to have made the playlist on all (or is it just I'm not tuned in when they've been played.) The Ed Sheeran/Elton John song from 2021 gets heavy airplay, so I don't think it's not a case of just sticking to the classics. Again, audience feedback?

Had ChristmasFM on for most of the day up to 5pm and it was a banging day all the big hits one after another and the shoutouts and segments were great too.

I see a lot of DJs on socials signing off from ChristmasFM 2024 as their last shows have been and gone. Feel like we waited so long for it to come back and the FM broadcast ends so soon.

I know! I can't believe they are talking about the final broadcast already, it feels like it's literally just back! 😫

It's on the airwaves for such a short time. Hard to believe we're done again in a couple of days. It goes by so so fast.

Will be in the car a good bit this year though so will try to take in as much as I can before the fm sign off on the 27th.

No live DJs after 6pm. Pesky DJs having loved ones to be with. Shakes fist.

    It's terrible, Joe.

Standard drops big time without the DJs but fair is fair they give so much and deserve time with their families on the big day and eve.

Caught a bit of that Christmas around the world thing on the eve when in the car and have to admit I changed channel it was that poor.

I didn't get to listen to much Christmas FM since I finished work last Friday. Happened to have it on in the car 20 mins ago and Roger Lane did a shout out for this thread! Saying hello to all the Christmas Boardsies and especially the Official Christmas FM thread.

Yeah - my last FM broadcast this year - had a ball. Since Covid I have been doing this from home but this year decided to go to the studio to do it - what a difference it makes to be surrounded by all the studio equipment and Xmas paraphernalia. The amount of text messages was manic!

FM finishes 7pm today but we will have presenters online up to 31st December. I've seen lots of positive comments here at boards.ie so, if you haven't done it already, please go to the website and make a donation!

Final day cones around so so quickly. Must put a reminder in my phone to listen in to the last hour.

Need the final song to keep my spreadsheet up to date too. But suspect tradition will reign and we'll hear FONY as our closing song.

I assume it is some licensing thing that they have to pull it so quickly from fm? If it’s a time limited thing would starting a few days later on fm to push out the finish date not make sense. It always seems strange for the fm to be pulled right in the middle of Christmas after being on the air for weeks before.

That all being said the majority of my listening is online through Alexa or playing from the app but it’s nice to have the fm in the car (though easy to play from TuneIn or the app also).

I love listening to Christmas fm, it’s weird going back to work in jan and starting back listening to “normal music” during the day after having Christmas fm going all day everyday in my headphones since the end of Nov.

It’s only a 30 day licence. A December 2nd to Jan 1st run time does sound better but I’m sure there’s a science behind it. People are probably more charitable before Dec 25th than they are after it.

Exactly That. I think i read previously that listnership drops from Christmas eve and donations do too, and as its ultimately all about raising money for charity it makes sense to maximise the sweet spot for donations.

Online still full swing till c.1am on NYD so just the car will be affected for me.

Hate that silence from 7pm tonight though, has been a real lump in the throat moment previously.

Am listening in to the end of the FM broadcast anyway… always try to be there for the FM launch & FM ending if at all possible.

First time ever listening at the end I think. Just served up dinner. We are all sitting around eating and enjoying the music.

    God I love Christmas.

It doesn't feel like the end as much as previous years since the online broadcast stays on for longer.

Im listening to on line broadcast, is it the same as FM in the car.

does it finish at midnight in the car

Christmas FM stopped its FM broadcasts at 7pm yesterday. The live broadcasts will continue online until the New Year. After that, it will be largely automated music online.

Classic 80's is on my radio now at that frequency. I enjoy that station. 🙂

For the third year running, Classic Hits 80s has kicked in with a temporary FM run straight after Christmas FM has finished its run.

We get nothing down Waterford to replace the Christmas fm station.
