No harm getting a quote from Tesla. If it is more than you are willing to spend, any garage could fit standard steel springs.

Should be no different than Mercedes systems of that era.
Any decent mechanic should be able to replace it.

Gumbo many thanks for the info, I knew Tesla used a lot of Merc parts but wasnt sure if the air was merc based, just need to find the parts numbers.

Thanks Unkel, I saw a couple of vids about replacing with coils just need to look at the cost implications, i ll keep you posted with what i end up doing and how much it cost

My last Model S went on coils by the current owner after developing an issue with the air suspension that was going to cost several grand. My current Model S has steel suspension and you don't really notice the lack of air suspension on good roads but you do on speed bumps and bad roads alright!

Any issue with insurance cover here ? I understand it’s an OEM swap to steel springs but would some insurance companies consider it a “modification” ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,496 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Strictly speaking it's a modification and should be declared the same as any other modification.

However, if the coils are Tesla badged I would question if any assessor would even notice.

I decided not to go with coils, as i found out the compressor was at fault, ordered a replacement part from a breakers in poland ( after a lot of searching ) circa 250 incl post, and local garage fitted it for 150, happy days.

How did you figure out which part needed to be replaced?

I think someone once posted a table - or a link to a table - that showed the different Model S variants along with WLTP range and 0-60 times - I can't find it 🙈

It’s quite outdated now as many cars have come after it, and some previous cars got faster through OTA updates!

Coolant needs topping op and I have ran out of G48. Good deal in Halfords this, but seems not available for either store pick up or home delivery. Anyone any suggestions of where to get some?

    Question about MCUI1 and MCUI2

Would I be correct in thinking that maps displayed in the format below indicate an MCUI1 module? Whereas maps in the more modern Tesla monochrome format (using Google) would indicate MCUI2? Or it's not that straightforward? Any other giveaways that I could spot when browsing ads for sale without needing to get in touch with seller?

If they continue to have FM then most likely it is MCU1 as is a paid extra on MCU2 which very few go for

MCU1 also has much more basic games

There's a simple way to check it and that's to press the information button on the home screen.

Yes exactly, without needing to bother the sellers for now.

Not particularly interested in a non-MCU2 car.

Btw that screengrab is from a 2019 S75D.

The upgrade is €1550. You could negotiate hard on a MCU1 car. I'd say only a minority of cars will have been upgraded.

2019 should all have MCU2. MCU2 was omnipresent from late 2017 onwards afair

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,587 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

That's what I was thinking, but that screen didn't look as clear as an MCU2 unit should?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,587 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    Couple more questions.

The price of the MCU2 upgrade appears to have gone up - seems to be 2K now?

CCS upgrade appears to be Eur262 but does anyone know the typical wait time for installation?

@tom1ie would you be able to recall if the 2017 S75 you were looking at a year ago is the same one that McCuddy's still have for sale at the moment? Listed at 68K miles currently. Looks like the same one to me but confirmation would be great.

When I inquired about CCS and MCU2 I got a frosty reception unfortunately - a little bit along the lines of "what do you want to know that for?" etc.

That is the standard price that includes the old skool radio. It's €500 less if you tell them you don't want that

Blue is very nice, but that car is not particularly cheap

Let me know what cheap is for a similar vintage MS from a dealer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,181 ✭✭✭✭unkel

To me the value of a 3 month warranty from a dealer in a foreign country is worth not much more than zero. Combine that with the pain in the hole of having to go view it there or buy unseen and having to register it here (although free) would make it go negative

That 172 Model S we mentioned recently sold for €16250. Needing 4 tyres and on MCU1. Admittedly that was an exceptionally good deal. It is now parked in my cul-de-sac in Lucan 😂

There are now 3 Model S in the bigger Lucan area. All black. My last car, my current car and my neighbour's car 😀

Anyone have any solid real world experience with uncorking? Was definitely offered at one stage from Tesla SC but having a hard time confirming if it's still offered for older vehicles?
