Objecting to wearing a rainbow armband on religious grounds is pretty spurious imo. The Quran teaches that gambling is a sin, yet Muslim players are happy to wear a jersey sponsored by gambling companies. The Quran also warns of the dangers of being in debt, yet Muslim players will wear a jersey sponsored by an easy-access, high-interest lending company. I'm generally sceptical of religious motivations, but there's a hypocrisy there I'm not comfortable with.

It's probably very naive of me to say so, but I would prefer to see no sponsors on jerseys and a cessation of clubs promoting 'causes'. No poppies, no rainbows, no taking a knee, nothing. If clubs want to continue with the equality initiatives let them do it away from the pitch and foster inclusivity in their communities. Let them empower their supporters in making the grounds safe for all supporters, let them bring ticket prices down for families, kids and OAPs. Our owners in particular only care about their bottom line and their bottom line has nothing to do with fairness or equality.

The Henderson example is the exact opposite though. He was a very vocal advocate and then decided to go to Saudi. Mazraoui has never done this and is quietly just going about his business. He's not making a stink about it, he just doesn't want to wear apparel with promotes an ideology he doesn't agree with. The club and team seem to agree with and support his stance.

I don't know, it's a symbolic gesture, just let the captain wear it, why does everyone have to wear it anyway?

It's not an ideology, it's human rights!

Not making a stink about it would be wearing the jacket and getting on with it.

The club have explicitly said that they don't agree with him and were obviously hoping that it wouldn't come out. They were quick to get their version out there and talk about all of their initiatives for LGBT etc. groups.

The club haven’t explicitly said that they don’t agree with him.

    They said:

“Players are entitled to hold their own individual opinions, particularly in relation to their faith, and these may sometimes differ from the club’s position.”

That is not a case of disagreeing with Mazraoui, it is acknowledging a difference of opinion which they believe he is entitled to hold.

His position being different from the club's position is as nice a way of saying we disagree without using language that can be jumped on. You're entitled to what you believe on religious grounds but the club don't hold those views.

Players are paid image rights and while I'm obviously not privy to the contracts I would assume there is something in there about promoting the club and it's initiatives. Maybe it was brought up in negotiations but it's bad faith to sign up and then renege on some of these.

It could be part of the reason why Bayern were happy to let him go tbh because he's definitely a classy operator on the pitch.

I'm not dragging this thread further off topic. That particular topic has been done to death in other threads.

    It's not complicated.

Maz is a devout Muslim, his religion teaches that homosexuality is a sin. He is free to have that belief, and others are free to mock it.

If he was calling for gay people to be put to death, I'd take issue with him. If he's quietly saying that he doesn't agree with homosexuality, I don't care. And he didn't even say it, he just told the club he wouldn't wear the kit. Same way that fella at the weekend didn't wear the rainbow armband.

Malacia lwb vs arsenal, after getting ran over vs bodo... This is a bad call, imo. If he's dropped dalot for him, rather than putting dalot in the back 3, it's insane.

And amad dropped to the bench too!

Today was a day I though he should be going as first choice as he could, and hold off the heavy rotation.

He's stuck with the training focused rotation and I don't like it, not for tonight's game.

If it is that way it would be more to rotate players so they're not tired for the more winnable game at the weekend. Not too much of a problem.

What's more important the result of tonight's game or everyone getting on the same page as quickly as possible?

I really admire his courage to stick with what is best for the medium and long term goals of the club.

Hell, he could pick what you or I think is the best 11 and still get hockied tonight.

He's 100% making the right call imo

No issues with it at all. Arsenal game is going to be tough no matter what I trust the man to do what's best for the team long term.

This guy always seems to have the team in advance

A massive battering could also dent the confidence of the players.

    That's fine, we disagree.

I don't think playing malacia vs the most on form winger in the country helps him, or gives us a good shot at a result. It could be worse than neville vs West brom!

Apparently one of the players is leaking the team. If true needs to be ratted out and dealt with.

Do you think we should play 4 at the back tonight?

The new formation leaves us open for a hammering regardless of the personnel at this stage in it's implementation I would say.

I was worried tonight could be a bit of a spanking but the rumoured team has made me more nervous of one.

I thought Zirkee was having a shocking start to the season, he looked decent up front, wouldn’t do any harm to give him another go there.

Providing we can keep it tight for the first hour, which that team looks like it's being put out to do, then the bench is very strong.

Cheers, I haven't been following that person so good to know.

bayindir, kukonki, yoro, casemiro, eriksen, amad, anthony, rashford, zirkzee

He will in only 3 days time. Arguable all our forwards have been inform last 2 games so surely we can trust that he is picking what he thinks is best players for fitness/prospects of beating Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭NITRO95

No problem with the team. RA has said he'd rotate and that's what he's doing. A battering here, if it happens won't make a difference to our season. And if players confidence is knocked because of one defeat then they don't have the mentality to be a successful Manchester United player IMO

Yeah should be lynched in the centre circle before the next home game.

I'm not saying I want to see us spanked but I'm kind of giving amorim a free hit tonight. It's going to take a while to get his tactics locked in and Arsenal are in great form right now. Anything beyond a loss is a massive result imo
