Contract up the end of the month with energia. I'm on a smart plan. Rang energia today asking what can they do. Was offered 20% off for 2 years 15% for 1. Asked them to email me the details. Then I was offered 20% for 1 year.

    Is this good?

Night Rate price per unit (kWh)

    16.11

Day Rate price per unit (kWh)

    30.10

Peak Rate price per unit (kWh)

    31.54

    Price per unit (kWh)

    9.01

    Hi all

    I'm with Energia on a day/night plan MCC02.

Our meter was changed to an RM108 earlier in the year, with no change to the day/night plan we were on. We are out of contract today.

Spoke to Energia yesterday and they have told me that their company policy is that as I now have a smart meter (even though I'm not on a smart plan) they no longer offer the old day/night plans to customers with these meters.

Is this true or am I being spoofed by the service agent I was dealing with?

I've asked for something in writing from them to confirm this, they couldn't point me to where they tell customers this on their website or on any communication sent to me.

They were pushing for us to go on a smart day/night plan, max discount was 27% so 28.67 D and 13.76 N with 296 standing charge.

When I mentioned the 38% discount I was told that was only for new customers. I said we were thinking of moving to SSE and was told to check out their Trustpilot rating…

Well I'm definitely not a new customer anyway, can't really comment on your meter situation - I personally opted out of a smart meter. Good luck 👍.

I'm a mc01 unactivated smart meter, are you saying energia won't let me stay on that situation if I move to them?

Im out of contract next week, have BG 25% offer but I'm in a quandary. With EI saying they won't pass on the levy, I'm not sure how to proceed as energia is cheaper. It's a gamble wondering if more price drops will come or just stay on BG 25% for now, there's only 100 a year difference between them all which will constantly change anyways.

I've just left BG for Energia Dual. I've moved to a smart plan as I've calculated it will be better with my usage pattern next year. Energia also have the best gas price at 7.99 for dual users.

Will be interesting to see does BG contact me after the switch. I've been with them 3 years as they were easily the best plan each year but this year seems to be different with them

I have an rm 108. It was installed in April. Just initiate a move elsewhere and they will contact you with a better offer. I’m on day night with 38% discount. Just renewed this week after I switched to electric ireland.

    You should be able to.

I made the switch request this week from BG to Energia and the plan signed up is "Standard Electricity" (non smart) so you should be able to do the same.

I switched to energia in June & kept my MCC02 day/night plan on an unactivated smart meter.

I ended up renewing with BG at 25%. With their lower St charge and our usage, the saving wasn't worth switching.

Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Esb is the parent of electric Ireland (supplier) and eirgrid (supply infrastructure and electricity generation)

The new levy is going to eirgrid, if electric ireland is giving a waiver, would this suggest eirgrid don't need it and there using the waiver to gain a competitive advantage

    Regulator??????

There's no waiver. EI will pay the levy to Eirgrid. They simply decided they don't need to increase their standing charge to pass the cost on to consumers, instead they can cancel (or rather reduce) a planned decrease in unit prices.

Looks like the deal I got from Energia is not as good as I first thought. I just got caught off guard. As I had not done my comparisons. Still have a 14 day cooling period.

Plan is to ring energy back and ask to be put on the new customer plan. Anyone got this deal as a current customer?

Next option is to move to Flo Gas. I have never used these, but are showing up as the cheapest with the cash back deal. SSE are also cheaper. But they messed up all my bills and pricing the last time. Plus the customer care is hard to get.

    Thoughts on Flo Gas?

I got the same from customer service. I started a switched away and the retention department gave me a call and offered me a 37% discount on MC02 non-smart plan.

Appears customer service are presently pushing for people to smart plans however the retention department can provide you a standard plan and stay on MC02. This is their process and trained on this, its not a training issue of individual customer service reps unfortunately.

I would recommend asking customer service to file a complaint so they are aware this policy is not aligned and is unfair. The more that complain the quicker they fix this process. I can imagine the general public would not consider the implications of switching to a smart plan however the folks on this thread we are aware of the downsides of doing so.

if flo gas are the cheapest option jump ship and move to them, I moved a few months back from Energiia because they were cheaper

Thanks, are you happy with them? Never used Flo Gas yet.

I just had a real bad experience with SSE. I would never go back. I do find Energia customers service and ease of access quite good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,503 ✭✭✭leakyboots

Are SSE really that bad? I'm strongly considering going with them as they seem to be the best for us. We are low users, using around 2100Kw of electricity and 3770KW of gas per year. We were lucky to be on the 44% off both for Bord Gais the past year so I'm expecting to be spending a bit more no matter who I go with.

I'm just torn between a low fixed rate (23.53) versus a higher rate (29.98 but €300 credit). I think the credit goes a lot further than the rate, assuming we keep our usage pretty similar.

Assuming both standing charges are the same it's cheaper to take the second option 0.2998 plus 300 credit.

It's hard as I am on the staff rate (an in-law put me on it)

Bonkers/switcher would calculate off the standard fee…

So I know id still be saving money but can't gauge the true savings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 943 ✭✭✭Escapees

You can compare non-standard plans using bonkers etc. by entering the specific discount percentage you are on.

Can you link the page for this? I have looked and can't find it

    Found it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,190 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

I find all the providers the same you just get a bill from a different company, if your billing goes pear shaped that could happen with any of the companies really but less so now smart meters are in

I would just like to make people aware of sales guys going around knocking at people's doors giving false numbers for tariffs.

I had a BG sales person come to my door last Thursday and quote rates which he said multiple times were inclusive of VAT, but after signing up to the rates that I agreed with him and ringing up BG this morning, I have found it was actually EX VAT he was quoting.

For Gas… he was blatant lying to me about those rates (He said 8.00 cent per unit inc VAT, its actually 9.3 cent inc VAT). Hopefully I don't get a penalty fee now from my current supplier as I have cancelled the move.

I have the whole conversation recorded on my doorbell, him saying it was all inclusive of VAT. Madness.

Hopefully I don't get a penalty fee now from my current supplier as I have cancelled the move.

If you've cancelled the switch in the cooling off period, you're grand. You've not broken contract with your supplier so no penalty fee.

I have the whole conversation recorded on my doorbell, him saying it was all inclusive of VAT. Madness.

New world with those doorbells. Door to door sales people will have to be a lot more careful!

I wouldn't believe the truth off a door to door salesperson
