Now mctominay looks set to stay, so likely no midfield purchase. Will be a disaster of a season, again, if things don't change

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,650 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

We can't be letting McTominay go for £20m. He's worth more than that. I suspect a lot of clubs are biding their time here and things will be hectic in the last week of the window.

We're just going to have to be patient. We really do need another holding midfielder at minimum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

If he was worth more than that, we'd get offers of more than that for him. Or loads of clubs offering that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭NITRO95

McTominay doesn't look set to stay FFS. Fulham are out of the running for him because they won't meet our current valuation. Still 3 weeks to go in the window, either another club will meet our current valuation or we will drop the price. They (Wilcox etc.) have very clearly decided McTominay will be sold.

Because we won't meet PSGs valuation of Ugarte does that mean PSG are stuck with him? No obviously not. The overreacting to every news story is insane

That's not the way it always works in football. There were youth players going for 10's of millions earlier in the summer.

MDL and Mazraoui are all set to sign once we agree a fee with Bayern, which we will. A midfielder or two will be signed before the window closes. The management team are clearly working on deals and have things lined up. The panic every single time something negative gets reported is tiresome quite honestly. We've not had a proper structure behind the first team in over a decade. Shifting players from our squad takes work. There's still 3 weeks to do that work.

Galatasary aren't going to offer more. And they are the only two clubs to show any interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Ok now read the rest of the post. Just because he's not being sold tonight does not mean he's likely to stay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

The only two clubs to show any interest haven't come near the value united have placed. So yeah, it looks like he's staying. There's no viable route out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,183 ✭✭✭NITRO95

You know what, you're right. Nothing can possibly change in the next 3 weeks. We are doomed

Just reading the thread here on our hopes and aims for top 4 next season and there being talk of Utd setting a target for Top 4 as unrealistic.

Couple of things for me that make me think CL qualification is very much a realistic target.

Villa had their best ever season in my lifetime last season whiles Utd had their worst and there was only an 8 point gap.

Villa opened the door to top 4 many many times but Utd and Spurs were both far too inconsistent to take advantage.

I would say had we not suffered the injuries we did last season to key players then ETH would have had a squad capable and he would have guided them to top4 imo.

That is one of the reasons I wanted him to get another chance. I don't think it's unreasonable to request that Utd close an 8 point gap. To record 8-10 more points this coming season over last year's point total.

That's before we get into the track record of the smaller clubs when they get into the CL and the toll it tends to take on their squads. Add in that this seasons CL will have more games and I'd be very very surprised if Villa didn't have a significant point drop off.

I think Utd will be battling Spurs and Chelsea for 4th spot tbh and not Villa. Barring another injury disaster I see no reason to not expect to out point those teams over 38 games either.

And should 5th end up being enough for CL football and we look like a side making progress over the course of the season I'll be happy with that as well.

We can play a direct hand in helping secure that 5th CL spot as well if we hold up our end in Europe this season.

All in all, I'd be disappointed to not get CL football through either the league or EL next season and I think it's a very fair target to set tbh

I understand we are mid-rebuild and there is work to do but I also think these players need to be set minimum targets that they should be reaching anyway in playing for Manchester United.

happy McT is staying because we are already one midfielder light and struggling to get one in.

Leaving ourselves 2 midfielders short while struggling to get one in always seemed like an insane idea imo.

the sale of mcT would have financed a midfield upgrade. i think utd knew the mcT was collapsing so briefed journo's last night that they walking away from the ugarte deal.

Dharmesh Sheth (Who shockingly enough has been good this window) saying we're talking to Fofana! Please football Gods let it happen.

Liverpool also chasing a no.6 going by their thread. Be interesting to see what happens with both us and them after a player in the same position.

Tried to shift McTominay last summer and were unable to..

Maguire couldnt sell him last year, he remains

Wan Bissaka looking unlikely to go to West Ham based on reports

Add in all the other deadwood, Lindleof, Hannibal, Casemiro, Pellestri, Eriksen

None are bad players but in order to buy and freshen up the squad sales are required but wages and contracts given previously have really snookered some deals it seems.

How do you know they are the only 2 clubs that have shown an interest in him? Do you have access to a source inside Old Trafford at board level? Or do you just basing that on what you've read on the BCC Sport gossip column?

is this free to use? would be interested in throwing fofana in there given the new links.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,796 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I stole it from Reddit, I don't know the source.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,942 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I'd be interested in seeing the success metrics.

Like my issue with Casemiro wasn't that he wasn't trying progressive passes, or not attempting tacklets - its that he was misplacing or missing a huge amount of them.

Ornstein reporting that Liverpool are going after Zubimendi now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭Dave0301

Hopefully not. Think he looks like a great prospect and would improve their midfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,922 ✭✭✭Robson99

Who needs Zubimendi when you can get Berge for €20 mill less

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,650 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

Go on, show us your workings there on how you calculated that one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,796 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Didn't he turn down Arsenal? Can't understand why he would pick them over Arsenal who are the better side and have a Spanish manager.

People who can't afford the 60 although we probably can't afford 40 either so I'm sure if we get berge it's be a lot less. Zubimendi would be 60 up front too as it's a release clause and he we deffo can't do that. He also turned down Barcelona already apparently and wants to stay but I guess we will see how true that is
