    €60 a month
Holy moley.! I wish mine were even close to that 😁

You can reach out to your bank to close your Direct Debit and request 2 months back into your account, bank will pay you under SEPA rules no questions asked.

O think you've missed the query in that the op doesn't want to be stuck on a smart meter

I think the smart meter part has the person screwed sadly, so glad I have a ring doorbell and these door to door blokes can shag off

    The internet isn’t for everyone

ah fair enough, advice still holds for all Direct Debits though. Had to use it before for Sky who didn’t close off an account properly.

If you search through the thread, there is a case where the supplier made a mistake and they had the meter deactivated or they received compensation (I can’t remember what).

Not the greatest input. I’m imagine you’re kinda screwed, Energia will ultimately say you consented at the door. I’d go through their complaints procedure first and then the CRU.

Yeah I'd agree with you, it doesn't make sense if one have a Smart meter but cannot get on a smart plan. Otherwise it'll be like a chicken and egg loop. It would seem like the Smart D/N meter is the problem. Maybe eventually they will roll one out for Smart D/N. Who knows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,672 ✭✭✭✭vectra

    No,
I did not agree with him at the door,
I also spoke with him afterwards and he said he mistakenly ticked the wrong option.
I also rang them immediately so as Energia say. "all conversations are recorded for training purposes etc"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

Don't really see the point in overly correcting me. I was just tryna go off what you wrote previously. I have no more knowledge on the topic than anyone else here and offered my opinion.

Read the thread and find the poster. Don't read the thread. I don't really care, its not my problem. Good luck!

    Jaysus calm down.
I was only pointing out the sequence of events to you.
But yeah. If you want to take it up your nose then off you go.

Energia can cancel the switch and you will be reverted back to your old configuration (if you were MCC01). Flogas should also be able to do this if you ring them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,355 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I'm not so sure about that. I've recently moved to a smart plan and in fairness to BG it states clearly during the sign up process that if I cancel after signing up (even immediately) I cannot go back to a non smart 24hr tariff, they state it's a network requirement implying it's out of their hands once I accept the deal. I think his only option is to go for a smart 24hr plan, at least they're available now, not like a couple of years ago when no provider had one listed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 539 ✭✭✭td2008

Interesting, ESBN definitely will revert. I would contact Flogas if they didn't as they can also object. I should also mention this is only for a change of supplier, not if you were with the same supplier and requested a smart plan.

    Page 15 here

"Where CoS initiated a Non Interval to Half Hourly or a Half Hourly to Non Interval meter
reconfiguration then on cancellation MRSO will reinstate the old supplier and reverse the
    meter work"

Smart plan would drive my bills through the roof as probably 95% of my usage is on the expensive times.
I am confident contact from a solicitor would get their attention pretty quick especially as it was their mistake to put me on a smart plan.
I contacted the agent that called to my door this morning and he is taken aback it went through as he contacted his manager immediately to inform them of his mistake.
    Also.
Ironically I had a prepay guy at my door and had a good chat with him about it. He said Energia and all them are allowed one switch per year.
    Ie
    Smart to 24hr
    or
    24hr to smart.
If they want to change again within 12 months there is a charge for this and that is why they try to get out of it.
He also gave me a workaround if that fails.

So it seems the best option is the board gais 33% EV plan and top up the car between 2-5am.

I've solar arriving in a few weeks. The FIT is lower than others but the cost of all the import is lower too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

Prepay guy is wrong. An activated smart meter cannot normally be undone. It’s not at the discretion of the suppliers.

    From the link below:

The main electricity suppliers told Prime Time that customers could never revert back from smart tariffs due to "market" or "industry design", however the CRU said the configuration of meters "does not prevent the customer from moving back to a flat-rate tariff or stop energy suppliers from offering customers on (smart meters) a flat rate tariff."

ESB Networks added while tariffs are a matter for each electricity supplier, "there is no requirement to change the meter configuration if a customer decides to move back to a flat tariff from a smart tariff, the supplier is not restricted in how it prices each period."

its moving to another provider while on a non activated day/night smart meter, which was the issue.

Its all good, i switched today to a smart EV Plan with existing provider Energia today, with no issue. Energia Smart Drive, bi monthly night rate 7.54 cent inc vat for 4 hours per night, cap is 1,000 units per bi monthly cycle, which is about my annual usage, increases to 8.67 inc vat after you reach 1,000. Battery will power the house for over 90 % of the daytime units.

No penalty, for switching early from current contract, and a new contract from now, and now i am free to switch if i so choose, once it is activated for the usual €50 exit fee.

I also suspect Energia will announce a rate decrease in the coming weeks.

anything a man at the door says should be taken with a pinch of salt, I know a man that works for pre pay power and he did half a day of training and will sell his souls for a sign up promising the moon and the stars

    The internet isn’t for everyone

If you start the sign up, enter your email, stop the sign up by closing your browser within a few days you'll get an email offering a further 3% off giving a total discount of 36%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,355 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

Prepay guy is talking through his hole. Once the meter status has been changed from MC01 that's it, game over. It was a mistake engaging with that door to door guy, they probably get a bit extra for changing your meter status as it's a reflection on their poor smart pricing that there's only an 11% uptake on smart plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,367 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Have given that a go. Got to the last stage but closed before submitting. I'm not off my flogas fixed contract until the 7th of August so have a week to wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭pat1981

I followed your advice and did this 3 days ago, but no extra discount email so far, thinking of ringing them to see if they would apply the 3%. Currently on the affinity fixed deal.

The ev rate between 2-5 am would this only apply for charging evs or could it be used for heat pump etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,355 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

It wouldn't work for me using brave browser on the laptop. I tried again using chrome on my phone and it worked perfectly. It will ask you on the first page to enter your email so you can pick up where you left off, just fill it in and close the browser you'll get an auto generated email, two days later you'll get the extra 3% off email.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 606 ✭✭✭TheSunIsShining

Provider doesn't know what you use the electricity for - so you could use it for heat pump, washing machine etc. Two things to consider:

    1. A few people here will remind you that the fire brigade people don't want you using stuff like dishwashers, washing machines - but probably most especially dryers, even more so if you have the traditional non heat-pump dryer - unsupervised at 2am as they could be a potential fire risk.
    2. If you are happy to use things overnight, your limit is linked back to your electricity supply - which you can see on your bill as your MIC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭iknorr

This is just purely confirmation bias. Fire brigade gets calls to a drier fire. Driers cause fires confirmed. Dont use driers.

Use driers correctly and they wont cause a fire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 606 ✭✭✭TheSunIsShining

For the record I'm using the washing machine and dishwasher at 2am every night. No issues at all. Don't usually use the dryer (it is a heat pump dryer) as to use it means either waiting 24 hours to put in the clothes from previous night's washing which I won't be doing or else put on a wash on the pre 11pm rate which would defeat the whole purpose.

Also waiting on a Sonoff Powr3 to allow me to time the immersion as well as the KW cost for that 3 hours is cheaper than gas to heat the water.

Has anyone figured out if BG do a fixed day/night plan?

The 36% seems to be 24hr

I don't think they do fixed rate day and night (Can't see it from the Our Tariff Explained section) but they do variable rate day and night. I don't believe it is directly advertised in the plans but they do it.. I was on 24hr with 24 hour meter and when I got the meter changed to day and night, the rate just automatically changed to day and night type after the meter was installed (the rate is there in the Our Tariff Explained section)
