    More grim news

James Hume sustained a significant knee injury during Friday night's BKT United Rugby Championship game against Cardiff. He will see a specialist knee surgeon this week.

Jake Flannery (thigh), Tom O'Toole (ankle) and Nathan Doak (groin) also suffered injuries during the same game and their availability for selection will be monitored through this week.

Steven Kitshoff suffered a knee injury against Clermont in the EPCR Challenge Cup Round of 16 fixture and following a scan and specialist opinion it has been determined that unfortunately this is season- ending.

He will travel back to South Africa this week, where he will see a knee specialist to decide on the required treatment plan.

So Henderson,, Moore (Stu), Herring etc al are back?

Looks like Hume out for the season. Thats tough news, hope he gets a positive outcome from consultation.

Well that was a severely underwhelming Ulster career for Kitshoff.

What's the betting he'll make a miraculous recovery in time for the SA matches in the summer….

How? If TOT moves to LHP then Ulster need a new TH. If he stays at TH then they need a new LH. Signing a TH would be more difficult than a LH.

It appears Ed Byrne is coming so why risk your only international prop by switching him to the other side and leave a giant squad hole in one of the most important positions?

Seemingly at the request of Andy Farrell for the benefit of the international team.

If ToT can make the transition its worth a shot. I'll be honest, i've always been a little underwhelmed by ToT. He's very young for a prop but i don't think he's done enough to earn the hype he's received over the years. Wilson has been much more impressive.

In propping terms, I'd agree. He was brilliant around the field when he came on the '23 Six Nations.

Suppedly the Kubota Spears head coach (South African) is being tipped to take over Ulster next year.

He (Frans Ludeke) was the head coach of the Bulls when they won Super Rugby in 2009 and 2010.

Apparently not happening. 'In the know' guy from Ulster forum said it isn't happening.

I really wonder what the feck Dan McFarland was doing with the players for the last 12 months. Doesn’t sound like a very accountable environment at all.

Apparently a season or so ago, the catalyst for one of Marcus' absences from the first team was him saying this in the changing rooms after a poor performance. Dan not impressed.

after the Connacht win in Galway. Dodgy performance, Marcus said it how it was and was cast out into the abyss

Down to Richie Murphy or Jared Payne, according to the Bele Tele.

Where does Moore stand contractually with Ulster? I hope you have him next season. Scott Wilson has been great, what is the assessment of the props in the academy?

So, we're going into the crunch part of the season, up against a team not too far above us (but playing significantly better), when every point counts, missing Kitshoff, Reid, Herring, O'Toole, Moore, Henderson, Treadwell, Timoney, Reffell, Marcus Rea, Matty Rea, Doak and Hume. What could go wrong?

I do wonder if Crothers is playing because Murphy has real faith in him - he made him U20s captain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,912 ✭✭✭Utah_Saint

Yeah i hope Crothers can make the step up next season. Although i do worry he's a little small for the back row @ 210LBs. He's young, so a good pre-season with a lean bulk should do the trick

Benetton can reap huge dividends on Ulsters left wing

Woeful organisation and reading when to drift.

Probably one of the best half’s of rugby from Ulster all season, and the sort of rugby that might keep Richie Murphy in this job.

Benetton are a dangerous side with good players and Ulster have been a lot better.

Cooney has been superb, it’s amazing how much better they look with Cooney and Burns guiding things.

Really encouraging to see all those young locally produced players in the pack having a big half: Stewart, Wilson, Sheridan, Crothers, McCann.

I thought it was up and down tbh, but it was a joy to see Stockdale running with a bit of purpose and confidence.

Scott Wilson gets a special mention for that run

Addison….how long will Ulster put up with this complete waster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,482 ✭✭✭SaoPaulo41

Leinster fan here , I was just about to type ,it's a real pity he could never stay fit. An absolutely fantastic player. Would of had many caps for Ireland.

Baloucoune looks like he’s recaptured a bit of form.

    Addison looking robust is comical
