It's a really useful tool, though my HDF file only goes back to March so I'm missing the winter usage for comparison.

I was looking at the electric ireland rate home electric 24 , in the tool it is 33.76, on the EI website it is 36.80

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

    33.76 * 1.09 = 36.7984

Vat not applied on 33.76 and when applied its 36.80

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Why should people give data to some random dude on boards. How is this data going to be processed/stored?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,836 ✭✭✭bren2001

If you bother going to the website.... "User data is NOT saved on the server (all data is processed on in the browser)"

Who knows what way the overcharge is handled. Could be badly worded by the journalist. If I was a customer of theirs with doubts I'd been affected, I'd contact Electric Ireland direct regardless of how big or small the amount is.

Here's the link. It's not actually fully linked in the Bord Gais thread. So not easy to find

As pointed out by Loyatemu, I had it pasted wrong 🤦🏻‍♂️

As someone who hasn't had the smart meter installed yet,

    1) Is it generally a bad idea activating it? I presume it could be enabled later if required.

    2) Do you get requested to activate it after it has been installed or what process is followed normally?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 944 ✭✭✭Escapees

Yes to 1. Lots of info in this thread on it if you can search it. As for 2, generally left to you, but some providers might trick you into doing so.

And to add some confusion, note that the meter can function as a smart meter without being activated!

They include vat....prices have decreased for pinergy if that is what was catching you out...i thought the same!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 533 ✭✭✭TheBigEvil

great link, thanks for posting. Much better way to compare all the prices. Great to be able to see all of the Day/Peak/Night rates in one place and see exactly how the supplier compare to each other. The standing charges by some of the suppliers are crazy !

It acts as a smart meter once it's connected up, it no longer requires being read by anyone, readings are uploaded automatically to esbn and then forwarded to your provider as needed. After some time you can access the consumption data by creating an account on the esbn site not through EI or any other providers site. If you have a 24hr plan and only access the meter data through esbn, the meter, from a billing point of view is viewed on the network as MCC01 a 24 hour meter and you can change providers availing of 24hr plans.

For the online retool -it seems that data for 'free' saturday/sunday offerings is not accounted for properly; usage on those days could be 15-20% from overall bills ( and not under 5% as reported by software )

not sure how difficult is to make the software match the date with day of the week - but other switching websites seems to skip this feature too, although one of the key selling points of smart meter plans was to 'reward' usage outside peak hours/ weekdays

Yuno on that tool is down at .4101, im getting it at .3335 inc vat. Thats lowest i could find so not sure how that tool is correct.

Energia much cheaper. Their website offers 10% off but you can get 15% off over the phone/email

i think he said he just put in the rate from November 1st for that one as it was so close

Recently signed up for the Energia Smart Drive plan on smart meter plan.

Does the Energia Energy Online portal usage graphing work? I've got no data there & get error when try to view it.

I can go to my account & download 1/2 hour data as csv file but that's not ideal.

Was with Electric Ireland and their hourly, daily, weekly graphing was excellent.

Got a text from electric Ireland retention team saying I would get a call over coming days as my current 26% discount is coming to an end, 5.5% discount on 24 hour rate but discounts to be had on smart meter which I’m not interested in for the moment as our usage is pretty much peak hours when everyone is in from school/work. I mentioned Yuno and agent said there was a lot of bad feedback from customers around Yuno and their accounts being debited €100’s randomly. Agent said to get some feedback before I switch.

Now I know this could be a sales tactic but Just wondering is this true or has anyone got any feedback. Sse airtricity rates seem to be the next best on bonkers.

Just confirming what Caranica said above - Energia are giving 15% rather than the advertised 10% if you call and ask.

If you are Rural like me, be aware that the Energia website usually quotes the Urban standing charge even when it's displaying the Rural unit charges. Also there seems to be confusion between the comparison sites and the supplier sites about standing charges.

Deal I got just over the phone for electricity, for a Rural consumer, was discount 6% for D.D, 4% for "online", 5% for "promotion" i.e. 15 % total

Unit rate for Smart 24 Hour plan was 32.94 incl VAT, incl 15% discount, all day long. Standing charge is €301.

The agent was VERY careful to make sure I knew about the "no going back" aspect of smart plans - told me 3 times I think. They must be getting a lot of heat. Doesn't bother me in the least, especially if they offer an equivalent or better single rate plan. In this case the non-smart meter plan with Energia would have been 35c per unit incl vat and 15% discount, so that's fine by me.

I switched few weeks back to yuno, they took initial 70euro which will be just taken off first bill. That's all so far anyway.

Hey guys, I have got a weird experience with Flogas CP.

Basically, they signed up me 28th AUG, I have received mandate and in the mid of SEP I called them to adjust my DD information, as I moved to other bank.

13 OCT they cancelled my plan without notifying me (14d period def passed, even more than 1 month). Right now they are saying something weird has happened and to get me back I need to subscribe on their "current" plans only. I know there is late cancellation fee (50EUR), can I fine them for this cancellation without notifying me?

You should have asked him about electric Ireland overcharging their customers.

Talk about pot calling the kettle black.

What had your peak usage to do with not moving to a smart plan? I just moved from EI smart plan to energia smart plan. And neither had peak usage rates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭amber2

Peak units are charged between 5pm and 7pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭snor

Not with either of the smart plans I was on. Only day, night and extra low EV.

Can you please confirm the D/N unit prices shown above are as shown on your statement for 1 to 30 September. The reason I ask is that I have just received my statement for period covering 1 to 30 Sept & the unit prices shown are:

    D 0.2856

    N 0.2027

I'm struggling to understand why there should be a difference.
