Turned it off after 20 minutes. The Ulster championship is the only competitive one. Will probably be the AI semi finals before we see a decent, competitive game outside of that.

Galway 2-7 scored from 10 attempts. Sligo 0-5 from also 10 attempts. Sligo management won't be happy with how easy they let Galway in for those goals.

Seeding provincial draws based on league placing is the solution. Mayo, Galway and Roscommon were the top 3 in Division 1. On league ranking, two of those would have made the final in a fair and balanced draw.

He was taken off because he was very poor. Tierney one of the few forwards that played well today yet they still scored 2-20 and won by 14 points.

Provincials, apart from Ulster, are non-competitive with small crowds. Largely empty stadiums in Castlebar and Limerick today for provincial finals.

The complication in Connacht is that there is a rolling schedule meaning each team has to travel to London and New York on a equal basis. It was interrupted by Covid, but is now set again up until 2027. This allows one of the "weak" teams, usually Sligo to get to the final every now and again.

It doesn't matter how the draw is organised, Kerry will win Munster, Dublin will win Leinster, and one of the "Big 3" will win Connacht. For the time being, until the balance of power has one of its occasional shifts. Cavan used to be the only team in Ulster for decades. It would be wrong to fix the system to deny the chance of a "weak" team ever getting to a final.

Yes and no - Connacht is competitive amongst the top 3 teams, but the draw this year ensured a D1 v D4 match up in the final.

BTW, is there anything that illustrates how poorly ran RTE is when they bring Lee Keegan from Westport to Limerick to analyze a game being played in Castlebar that he's watching on TV like the rest of us 😂. Fuckin hilarious.

Would not be in favour of too much gimmickry.

The Connacht final this year was a dead duck as a result of the draw.

And it's rare, it's was 2015 the last time we had a Connacht final that only had one of Mayo, Galway, Roscommon.

This new system makes the provincial the least relevant they have ever been and it will take teams time to figure how valuable it is in their preparation for bigger things.

But I do think people are struggling to get to terms with the scheduling.

For decades we have had a provincial season between May and July and a All Ireland season between August and September.

Having the provincial finals over by mid May is hard to get used to, and that doesn't help the provincial championships.

There were a fair few people suggesting difference between div 1 and 2 isn’t that much. I’m not sure I’ve seen that in the champo where it really matters. The top two teams in division 2 are able to put it up to div 1 teams but I don’t fancy any other div 2 team.

It’s part of the reason I’d fear the latter stages for Dublin. They struggled badly in some div 1 games against far weaker teams. As has been pointed out the puke 15 man defensive line is something Dublin just can’t really overcome convincingly anymore.

I’d expect Louth to do it in Leinster final and why wouldn’t they? They will be celebrated like hero’s at home. I understand why they do it and don’t blame them at all, but it’s muck to watch as a spectator.
