How do you open a ticket barrier for the second person at a rail station with active barriers? Presumably you have to seek out staff to let them through.

Barriers not left open today. Didn't have a +1 so didn't need to figure out; but I did see someone complaining online that they were ordered to tag the second person in and hence pay the fare for them on a bus - only one, however, so hopefully not widespread.

I was in Athlone for the day with a friend and each time we got the bus, the driver indicated that there was a promo so one of us got on for free.

Had similier experience on a Bus Eireann service. Driver said he knew about promo but still tried to charge the card as had to account for passengers only begrudgingly letting the +1 on for free. Great promo idea but if all staff not aware then it's not working as intended.

Also used on Irish Rail service and they left one barrier open with staff member making sure one person was tagging off/on. Which is fair.
