Sorry I offended you petal, I didn't realise stating an opinion on the topic is apparently now the same as saying I'd love to go over and blow them up myself 🙄

Humans have never been different. They just pretend to be empathetic so they can tell themselves that they are superior.

War always need to be simplified into Good vs Evil for simple minds. The nuance of understanding there's a real human in each soldier is way too hard to comprehend for many people.

This war allows passive Irish people to indulge extremes of xenophilia, xenophobia and "Red Scare" panic simultaneously.

They get to cheer handsome white men like Zelensky while also indulging anti-white hatred against Russians and (part of) European culture.

So it hits a lot of buttons (deniably) that don't get hit otherwise and that give a lot of pleasure.

I think its a spiritual mistake to indulge in orgasmic delight over killing.

Tarantino has marketed this experience by making his movie villians rapists, Nazis, violent slave-owners etc. and then killing them horribly in crowd-pleasing climaxes.

One of the American guys was watching them over beers and it was pretty horrible how happy it made him seeing Russian soldiers getting blown up. There was even a Ukrainian at the table who thought it was way over the top. Same guy think every American action abroad is right and correct and the soldiers are heroes.

It'd be like watching videos of British soldiers getting blown up and thinking it's socially acceptable to take neverending bliss and amusement from it, in public. It's psychotic.

The double standards are remarkable. Everyone in the West is so good at separating themselves from their governments' actions, whom they actually vote for in free and fair elections, but the citizens and soldiers of countries that don't vote in free and fair elections "deserve to die" for their governments' actions.

    Yeah..

It really is quite scary at times when you see the sentiments expressed in the Russian thread..

And the maddest thing is it has been encouraged by the mods..Anyone not into fawning over **** NAZIS!!! or sharing their tweets showing a tank blown up or whatever is banned pretty much immediately..

Here's the leader of the Mozart PMC giving his thoughts on Ukraine after a few months there..

It's all quite disturbing..I actually think it's an evolution of the mass formation psychosis that formed during covid..It was seen as acceptable to turn on the unvaccinated then in a way that people wouldn't have before then..

When all this kicked off then they were just given a new target..

It's fairly mad to see how it's happened though..

Seems a fair few pro Putin posters who were kicked from the Russia thread are airing faux outrage here.

I can understand how those Vids would be a morale boost to the Ukrainian armed forces. David can defeat Goliath.

No one wants death. No one wants bodies in the ground, but Russia invaded, raped, tortured, occupied another sovereign nation.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

Of course people want death. The people masturbating over these videos obviously want it.

It's frankly rather absurd to feel like you're viewed as being on the wrong side because you think people taking massive enjoyment out of watching people die are fuked in the head. They are. Everyone knows this.

No one should be watching videos like that and taking pleasure, apart from maybe some Ukrainian who lost their home or something. But Irish people?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,034 ✭✭✭Jequ0n

But have people ever been different? Public spectacles of violence and death have always been popular with the masses. The difference is that technology now brings the supply directly to the end user.

I think the the lack of neutrality is a new low though, at least it’s the lost obvious one I have seen so far. A very strange development

    You think this is new?

Do you think German soldiers were humanised in WW2? Do you not think their deaths were celebrated?

How simple for you to come into this thread and call people that don't like bloodlust as pro Putin. So simple. The Russian thread is full of warped people - my hope is that most of them are young and immature and the excitement of war has them all worked up...but I am not so sure. Most of them knew zero about Ukraine earlier this year. Now they fight orcs for her every day on their keyboards.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,737 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

Keyboard warriors who wouldn't know what war was if it bit them on the arse, and should be eternally grateful they will never have to know what it is like to be in one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,207 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Well yeah, it's relatively simple to post a message, sure even you can manage it. Nothing simple like those pro Kremlin apologists telling Ukrainians to roll over and take it. Worst kind of people.

As for bloodlust, nothing wrong with not feeling sorry when mass murdering pillaging rapists are stopped in their tracks.

Those war videos and footages will be used for decades to come and will features in documentaries.

War is murder. It's horrible. It's disgusting. But Russia started this and they must and will be beaten back.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,589 ✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Grand, don't let me interrupt your war erections so and I hope you get all the death and misery footage you covet. Don't let the groupthink ever end either.

Oh I see you added another line after I replied to add some balance...nice

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,207 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Remembering your posts on the AH tread. I think you may need to reexamine the group think phrase.

My last line was well added before you replied.

it’s probably the first war where anyone in eye shot can take a mobile device, smaller then their hand and broadcast the events to the globe, in real time and in ultra HD.

In all other wars we were reliant by and large on news agencies determining what we saw and when we saw it.

my only concern of this war will be the fallout endured by Irish citizens as a result of over 70,000 Ukranian people having arrived to be housed, financed and given medical cards, free public transport and at the end of the war the tens of thousands more who will be joining them here, all of whom will demand we give them the same..

dozens of wars and violent conflicts were happening on this planet before and now but none were ever as ‘fashionable’ or ‘cause worthy’ outside as the Ukranian conflict….

Does nobody find it odd that nobody ever suggested anyone give a tuppence fück about the gulf war, Vietnam war, Syrian civil war etc… barring ’ shît that’s terrible’ .. ‘ ok we’ll go for that pint, come on ‘

and now the war in Ukraine, over 3000 kilometres away, two time zones away (around the same physical distance between Dublin and New York) and the media are trying to constantly propagate the idea courtesy of very detailed and in depth coverage and ‘war porn’… that we’ve a duty to not just help but relinquish our wellbeing in the course of doing so.

the media has been at the forefront of this….

Off you go comrade, nothing stopping you going over and joining Putin's forces. Your fanatical loathing of the West might be a bit too much for them, but will probably work in your benefit :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,737 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

The only reason why we're so onboard, offering housing and freebies, is Ukrainians look like us.

If it was a war in a non white country, ah isnt it tragic... anyway, moving on...

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,769 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Followed many wars and conflicts over the years, all of which have been heavily sanitised by the media and still are.

People have little idea how utterly brutal and vicious these things are. Even with the Ukraine conflict we receive only tiny snapshots of the horror. And that's a newsworthy conflict, we have zero interest in some of the African conflicts which, in terms of deaths and suffering, are horrifying.

The whole point of this Battlefield footage going into circulation, is that it get back to ordinary Russians and have the desired propaganda effect.

As far as I'm concerned, we're not seeing nearly enough of the footage of the destruction and mass killing perpetrated by Russians against civilian Ukraine. Nothing less than war crimes.

This could be all over months ago if the West had stopped prevaricating and supplied the armour, drones and offensive weapons systems that Ukraine have been asking for. Really, the Russians are so shite they should have been routed and we wouldn't have to see anymore new 'war porn' from this invasion again.

Lots of “sameism” on show here.

The Russians are invaders and count among their accomplishments (not exhaustive)

    1. killing children (in person, and remotely)
    2. Raping children.
    3. Kidnapping children, taking them back to Russia for god knows what.
    4. At least 1 & 2 applying to adult civilians also.
    5. Stealing goods and taking back to Russia on rotation.
    6. Targeting Civilian infrastructure to freeze civilians to death.

So, a shît load of war crimes… and you think people shouldn’t absolutely revel in their demise?!

Suck it up comrades - Russian body bag manufacturers are doing a roaring trade. Personally I wish death or capture on ALL Russian invaders.

If I am insulting any Russian sympathiser, then you know what I think about your feelings!

We take a bigger interest in it because it's in Europe - literally next door to several of our fellow EU member states.

Dublin - Kyiv is about 2500km, Dublin - New York is about 5000km... Two time zones away? So is Finland. You're talking rubbish tbh.

    Life ain't always empty.
