first time i heard it, i was watching the champions league on ITV, back in about 1993 or 4. they had a tune that i couldnt get out of my head, it was loud and bold and pretty damn funky.
it wasnt until about 3 years later that i fell asleep watching tv and woke up to classic fm being played after tv finished, and it was playing that song.
    what was it?
well, it was the montegues and the capuletes from prokoviefs romeo and juliet. its still my favourite piece today.

    Ludovico Einaudi - Le Onde

Ludovico Einaudi, Melodia Africana I from the I Giorni album. I like La Onde too but I prefer Questa Notte from that album.

Philip Glass' Violin Concerto 2nd or 3rd Movements.

Adagio for Strings - Samual Barber.

Think I first heard it in Platoon, and it's been one of my favourites since then.

Also O' Fortuna since I heard it in the movie Excalibur. The whole of Carmina Burana is pretty good tbh, but I think that that one piece is the most powerful of the whole thing. I'd love to go to the theatre and see the whole thing though, it would be amazing.

I dislike Orff's Carmina Burana for no other reason than I find it monotonous and not the dramatic piece of music everyone claims. For drama, I prefer Verdi's Dies Irae or Holst's Mars.

mozart's requiem, but only by a nose

It would be a tossup between Orff's Carmina Burana, from near silence to cresendo to Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, it makes me what to reach for my jackboots :)

OT- WhiteWashMan, what station relayed Classic FM after closedown (not that any station closes down any more?)

Back on topic- I absolutely LOVE loads of classical compositions, so picking a few out of many is difficult, but here goes-

    Beethoven Symphonies 5, 6, 9

    Brahms Symphonies 1-4

    Massenet-"Meditation"

    and loads of others!

Beethoven's ninth or third have to be the best in my opinion.

This guy got lucky, with the above I'd be surprised.

I'll see if I can get lucky a second time - I'm going to guess that it might be 'Fur Elise' by Beethoven.

its one of my favs aswell

    Carl Orf's
    "O Fortuna"
    fr. Carmina Burana

    1.
    O Fortuna,
    velut luna
    statu variabilis,
    semper crescis
    aut descrescis;
    vita detestabilis
    nunc obdurat
    et tunc curat
    ludo mentis aciem,
    egestatem,
    potestatem
    dissolvit ut glaciem.

    2.
    Sors inmanis
    et inanis,
    rota tu volubilis,
    status malus,
    vana salus
    semper dissolubilis,
    obrumbratam
    et velatam
    mihi quoque niteris,
    nunc per ludum
    dorsum nudum
    fero tui sceleris.

    3.
    Sors salutis
    et virtutis
    mihi nunc contraria,
    est affectus
    et defectus
    semper in angaria;
    hac in hora
    sine mora
    cordis pulsum tangite,
    quod per sortem
    sternit fortem
    mecum omnes plangite

Vader - any chance that it is Rimsky Korsakov's Flight of the Bumble Bee?

De Rebel - some top 20 there - it includes about three hundred pieces LOL.

I agree with your Beethoven and definitely Ralph Vaughn Williams is one of my favourites - the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis is a classic, as is the Lark Ascending.
