It has improved certainly Ger - Catherine and I went out to the ship for a visit during our honeymoon in 2015 (clearly the ideal romantic getaway location!!) and I was very impressed with how clean and liveable it was compared to when I had last been on board on that visit with you.

It's nice, also, that you have to get to it by boat, adds back some of the authenticity.

Not tempted yourself, Steve, to do a stint on the Ross Revenge, if you were given the opportunity? I would definitely make a point of listening if you did, as I missed all your previous times with Caroline!

I was about to post the same thing... it would be great to hear you on the air and sea/river waves again. I could easily imagine you doing a night time prog on vinyl from The Overdrive Studio and throwing in a few memories of life on board in the 80's - Just what the 'North' weekends need. Have a word with Mr Foster.

Glad to hear you were back on board too .... and a woman who would take time out of her honeymoon to visit a pirate radio ship, is a rare find ... congratulations 😁

Radio Caroline has announced that Emperor Rosko will be presenting breakfast programmes on each weekend of the Caroline North broadcasts scheduled for 2023.

Looks like they will be pre-records going out from 6am, presumably until Chris Williams takes over at 08:30, with his 'Carnaby Street' programme live from Manx Radio. Rosko's first programme will air on the first weekend of broadcasting from the ship in 2023, Saturday January 14th.

in the 1960's, Rosko presented for Caroline on the Mi Amigo, before becoming one of the launch line up on BBC Radio 1 in 1967. He also was heard in Dublin in the 1980's when he presented pre-recorded evening progs on Radio Nova, from his home in Los Angeles.

Great alakazm, the main man, is back! .... with music and rhymes to blow your mind! (or something like that :)

Great to see that Ray Clark will be on for both days - always worth a listen.

Sorry to see Dave Foster is still off, hope to hear him back on air soon. I met Dave on board The Ross when it was in Tilbury Dock back in 2004 and then later in Dublin at a tribute night for Tony Allan, he is a force of nature, a vital part of all activity on the ship when the broadcasts are on. I hope someone else is appointed to take over Beatles playing duties, until he returns :)

I have been listening in as much as I can, since Friday, Oscar .... one of the best line ups in a while.

Roger Day sounds like he has never been away. One of the highlights of my own radio activity was linking live to him from Phantom FM for an Anorak Hour interview when he was in Harwich Harbour aboard LV 18 for Pirate BBC Essex. He was a joy to chat to and is always enthusiastic about doing great radio. He also sounds exactly like he did in the 60's and 70's :)

Later today I am looking forward to hearing the great Ray Clark , followed by a Caroline debut from Keith Rogers of Radio North Sea International. If my memory still works, I think Keith was on board the RNI ship MeBo 2 when it was bombed in May 1971.

It is just a pity that Dave Foster is still off, he is missing a great weekend - I hope to hear him back on air soon.

A worthy mention to whoever runs Phone Fix Craft on The Crumlin Road in D 12. It was great to hear a Dublin business advert on Caroline North over the weekend. Fair play for providing some financial support.

The connection between Caroline and Ireland, isn't just related to its founder and the initial ship fit-out in Greenore Port. The Irish broadcast scene (radio and TV) owes a huge debt to the various Caroline people who started up and worked on some of the 70's and 80's Irish pirate radio stations. Even the very early pirate operators in the 1960's were influenced by listening to Caroline.

Caroline influenced Irish broadcasting in two waves, firstly in the 1960's when the likes of Ken Sheehan, Prince Terry, Davitt Kelly etc, set up low power early AM pirates to have a go at what they had heard on Caroline, and then the second wave hit in the early 1980's when Robbie Dale and Chris Cary arrived and set up the Superpirates Sunshine and Nova, with a crew of Caroline jocks that were at a loose end since the sinking of the Mi Amigo in 1980.

I always thought that it would be great to get The Ross in to Dublin for a temp licence run. Caroline left Ireland in 1964 and has never returned, it would be great to bring it home for a visit. I can imagine the ship tied up at North Wall Quay, just outside The Point.

Maybe if the restoration fund achieves it's aims and if the UK authorities allow it to leave UK waters again?

    Ger Roe,

Thanks for the 2 great posts.

I wasn't able to listen as much as I'd liked over the week end due to stuff beyond my control but have caught the 2 Roger Day shows on https://www.woodleynet.co.uk/caroline/podcasts.htm#north.-- really enjoyable and hope he's on the Ross Revenge again in the future.

Manx Radio are going to trial DAB, with a view to making that the second service after FM, and replacing AM.

Good for Manx Radio .... but bad for aging nostalgic anoraks. It would be sad to see 1368 go, but if I am being realistic, it is only a matter of time. We must enjoy the Caroline North AM broadcasts from Foxdale, while we can.

On the local news on Anglia TV 21 April, there was a feature about the Ross Revenge. Starts at around 12 minutes. As an aside there is an Irish woman, Aisling Creevey doing the weather, around 24 minutes.
