Valuations and appraisements. NO SELLING/BUYING

There have a few threads/posts over the years with lads looking to get a price on, valuation or appraisement of items they may be thinking of selling or are trying to sell for someone that is leaving the sport. The Mods usually delete these threads because 100% of the time they turn into selling/buying threads and because they are not in the for sale section or some people use them to subvert the for sale forum rules on price, pictures and location it is ripe for abuse.

However after discussing this with the other Mods i believe a dedicated thread where all valuations can take place, and be correctly monitored is of more benefit to the community than the outright prohibition of them.

To that end here we have the new valuation and appraisement thread. In here you can post about any item you want appraised or are thinking of selling but are not sure what the value is. Again you don't have to be selling, perhaps you inherited an item and don't know it's value and are curious.

Whatever the reason this is the ONLY place to post such posts. The rules are simple:

Post the item you want appraised and pictures, while not mandatory, are preferred as they will inevitably be asked for.
Absolutely NO selling or buying. Any posts asking for a price (not from the OP) or in any way trying to buy the item/part of the kit, will be deleted.
Absolutely NO posting about sending of private messages trying to sell/buy "secretly". Anyone caught doing this will be banned from thread.

That is it. It's that simple.

Lads this is being done for you, to help the community. Like the forum itself any abuse may result in us losing the platform. The for sale section works perfectly fine and is easy to use so lets not waste a good chance to help others out by trying to use this thread for anything other than its intended purpose.

My Dad is selling his 1909 G.E. Lewis shotgun. This is the information I got from what remains of the Lewis company

Thank you for your enquiry. According to the sales ledgers, serial no. **** was sold on 23rd September 1909 to a Mr. W. Delany (Justice of the Peace), from Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland. The gun itself is described as a double-barrelled hammerless shotgun, and sounds like a fine piece from the description.

Has anyone any idea what this might be worth ?

Not a clue my man but a snoop around the guntrader site might give you an idea. Otherwise the only way to find out a good indicative value is a proper valuation by a competent dealer. As far as I know there's a chap in Mayo who is very knowledgeable on old English guns.

The value depends on, inter alia:

- condition
- type of action - sidelock or box lock (although I'm not sure that Lewis make sidelocks in 1909)
- ejector or NE
- quality of the wood and condition
- type and quality of the barrels and condition
- chamber length and proof
- case and accessories
- rarity

However, all English guns are usually worth a lot more in the UK than here so anything from £200 upwards depending on the above.

Throw up a few pictures if possible, its paints a thousand words. The thing is side by sides are not that popular anymore. I bought a really nice English made side by side, boxlock ejector, nice wood etc a few years back, and i think i had change out of 750 euros.

Lads, a friend of mine has decided to call it a day on his shooting career, he's been shooting foxes for a long time but doesn't have the energy anymore to be out for hours at night after them on rough ground.

He wants to sell his rifle so I told him I'd check around to see if its worth anything, it's a Krico 22-2250 with a double trigger. He says it's a very accurate rifle and that seems to be the general jist of what little I've found online about them. It needs a bit of TLC but would it be worth any few bob cleaned up does anyone know?

Those rifles have been around a long time. The only two I have had the opportunity to look down the barrels with a borescope showed a good bit of pitting, presumably from the use of the old S&B ammunition that had corrosive primers. The rifle is from the 1970’s when it’s all that was allowed for deer stalking. Double set triggers are no longer popular, were they ever ? €150 max.

The calibre doesn't help either. The deer shooters want something larger and most fox shooters will be using the .223. The .22-250 sort of falls between two stools.

The 22/250 is seriously fast flat round. If in good condition you’d expect the 300 mark

I was told by a dealer that he cannot shift .22-250's as the super won't sign off on them if the application is for fox shooting.

Thanks for the feedback lads which I will pass on to the owner, the same man has never used a mobile phone never mind the internet so he'll be very interested in the responses. So far he's only mentioned his plan to get rid of it to myself and he gave me first refusal but I have enough rifles to do what I want to do as it is.

If he's happy to offer it up for sale around the ballpark of the figures mentioned I'll give it a clean up and throw it in the "For Sale" section here, thanks again.

Follow onto that. Why not see if the Irish hunting and fishing museum in Portlaoise would be interested in them? Its a reference collection,and if it is as complete as you say worth perserveing.

Thinking of selling my rifle if my super won’t allow me another 308w. It’s a Remington 700 in 308w with a bartlein match barrel, cut to 20 inches and threaded m18x1. Has barrel cerakoted olive drab green. Round count sub 300. It has three different cheek risers, Magpul qd cups, Magpul picatinny bipod mount.

Fitted cut threaded and head spaced €300
Cerakote green €200
Magpul cheek risers x3 €40
Magpul hunter 700 €320
Magpul aics mag and kit €200

What would you think is a realistic and fair valuation. I know match barrels will be like hens teeth following the uk crashing out for now.

Personally I'd say 1,500 remmys are losing popularity plus a new Bergara is very competitive to that rifle
My barrel came from the US so I don't think the UK crashing out will have much of an effect on barrels they might even be cheaper coming direct from Europe

You could get more you could get less all depends on the day

What's a Sako TRG worth these days, thinking of moving mine on due to lack of use.

The price of these have gone up and up. I bought the Green one with phosphatised action/barrel about 12 years ago. Brand new it was €3,600. If I recall correctly the black stock one with blued barrel was about $2,400 - €2,600 depending on dealer.

However like the Beretta 682Gold E the price of these has gone up in recent years and stayed up due to popularity, demand, availability (or lack thereof).

The Green version is being sold for between €4,400 to €4,700 with various accessories meaning a jump in new price of around a grand or a little more. Allowing for the same mark up on the black model you're looking at around the €3,400 mark, new. I see in the UK the new price of these ar from £2,600 and up (€3,100+)

So then it comes to the second hand price. This will depend on condition, round count, not to mention the accessories (brakes, mags, rail, bipod, etc) that might be going with it because I know first hand that Sako accessories are not cheap. Last time I checked their bipod was in the €400-ish mark. For a bipod, and this was a decade ago.

Some people take between 15 to 25% off new price (condition/accessory dependent) while others will look for the top money (close to new price). Which is understandable especially if you have something the is in high demand, but low supply.

I'll refrain from giving you a price because I find in valuations if someone gives a price and you look for more in a for sale advert, it can cause a lack of interest if people will think any price over what valuation is given here, is asking too much.

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on a dealer near Roscommon (ideally, but i can travel) who would purchase second hand shot guns. i have the below Lincoln 12g side plate over and under shotgun which i rarely used. The license renewal is coming up so i think ill sell it and the three gun cabinet i also have.
