I was always very fascinated and curious about that reality where BOBW had ended badly. What especially gripped me was how desperate and uncompromising this Riker was compared to his "better off" counterparts.

It makes perfect sense that a Riker who has spent years l living in absolute terror of the Borg (and probably not getting any sleep either) would be in such a bad way. Makes you consider how far any of us are from turning into basket cases when put under enough pressure for long enough.

The hellscape his Enterprise comes from is also fuel for the imagination. The shattered and progressively assimilated remains of the Federation where what little of humanity is always on the run from a fleet of unstoppable cubes. A fleet that is led by Locutus, who's knowledge as an explorer of the Federation makes most hiding places useless. Could make for a gripping one-off special.

That Riker exemplifies Quark's musings on humans in the Siege of AR-558. I wouldn't mind seeing that What If? animated by somewhere like Production IG.

Parallels is such a good episode though. One of the other Rikers who lost Picard but still beat the Borg has a nice moment in "it's good to see you again captain" to Picard.

This has nothing to do with how good or sh+t any of these are, it's just a fun bit trivia.

Out of the four most recent season finales, Lower Decks season 2, Picard Season 2, Discovery Series 5 and Strange New Worlds Series 1, Picard is the odd one out. Why?

    This too shall pass.

I don't know the answer but I assume you mean Disco S4.

Is PIC the only one doesn't have a major character arrested ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,929 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Say you don't know the answer, then get it straight away. Yep, Book is arrested in Discovery, Captain Freeman arrested at the end of Lower Decks and now, in quite similar fashion, Commander Chin-Riley is taken away at the end of Strange New Worlds. To the best of my memory nobody gets arrested in the finale of Picard although several characters get detained through the series.

    This too shall pass.

Ya half way through writing I thought of that answer and forgot to edit the first bit.

The SNW and LD endings were really similar.

That's what I guessed too but would not have been able to answer it for sure and besides I am only just seeing it now.

I have not seen Discovery season 5 lol or season 4 and have no intention too either. I did see the other three however. Good quiz do.

I assume the difference is nobody actually cared that Book was arrested?

I'm 5 episodes into Prodigy and the "Captain" character there is the most annoying character I've ever seen in all of Star Trek. No not Janeway but the blue kid. It feels like they're going for a Guardians of the Galaxy kind of vibe but I don't think they're pulling it off.

    This too shall pass.

Ah he's grand. Similar enough to Mariner and Nurse Chapel, I grew to like the character as they delved more into the character.

Interview: Former Eaglemoss Licensing Head Ben Robinson Offers Hope After Company Ceases Operations

    Goodbye Eaglemoss

Robinson confirmed that on Friday, August 5th Eaglemoss officially entered Administration in the UK. Similar to Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the USA, the Administration process involves an outside administrator who takes over the company when it is unable to pay off its debts and obligations. So as of last Friday, Robinson and other remaining members of the staff were made redundant. Robinson has always been an active advocate of the Star Trek and other lines for Eaglemoss and he has chosen to speak out because he feels the company has fallen short on communicating the situation to customers, calling it “unwise and unhelpful,” although he says he does expect there to be some official communications coming from the company, hopefully soon.

I hate to say it, but it illustrates the risk of customers committing to things like the Enterprise D subscription. There seemed to be so many issues with those projects even before the company got into trouble.

    Pity about Eaglemoss.

What Enterprise D subscription? There was the Star Trek Starship subscription alright and the Enterprise D was the first one in it but that's it.

I for one never subscribed. I bought all my ships individually from the site. I put in some fairly big orders a dozen maybe more when they were on deal. I did mistakenly buy some of the same ships more than once and plan to sell them online.

I will not sell all my collection but I will sell some.

It's just a pity that Eaglemoss never got around to doing Babylon 5 ships. I would have loved a Narn cruiser and a Centari one as well as some white stars and some of the other ships too.

It's all there in the article!

Eaglemoss did a bit-by-bit monthly thing where you built a (very large and very detailed) model one step at at time, as the sections were released every month as part of a magazine.

The DeLorean from back to the future was one, the Enterprise D was another.

The problem with the idea is that if you miss an issue, or if there are supply issues (as happens a lot) you're fucked.

I Quit! Eaglemoss Enterprise D Build Up Disaster!

Eaglemoss Enterprise D Build Up "I Quit" Follow Up

The above videos highlight the problems with that Kit Subscription, over complicated led lightening needing allot of batteries. Also had allot of light bleeding.

Edit:- He mentions 20+ batteries for various sections (of which D cell for the nacelles.)

The youtuber ended up throwing his ($600 spent) built model in the landfill site.

Yeah, tbh I am glad myself I didn't know. I definitely would have been tempted. But I read a thread somewhere on the delorean subscription and there were a lot of very frustrated people

Anyone going to see The Motion Picture re-release this weekend in the cinema? Ticket booked for Sunday. I absolutely love that movie, even though it gets a lot of flak..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,262 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Considering the quality of Picard and Discovery, I'd say The Motion Picture has jumped many places in people's opinions

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

Outside of a few missteps looks wise its a perfectly fine movie. Way better than TFF or TSFS.

Was eaten alive by the fanboys of the day in standard "not real Trek" fashion.

Naw, it's still a total slog. Maybe seeing it in the cinema, up there on a big canvas, it might change the context of the experience - wouldn't be the first time that happens, where the experience shifts. TMP needed a tighter edit IMO, strip back the fat; I know that's not a majority view mind. It's not the first film whose runtime felt needlessly dragged out (heck it's a problem with many Blockbusters these days, and their pointless 2.5 hour length) .

Critical reviews are a good read now.

You have potential future Discovery lovers bemoaning "spaceships that "take an unconscionable amount of time to get anywhere and nothing of dramatic or human interest happens along the way" and "not enough action scenes"

Also future haters of Gogglebox "much of the action consisted of the crew's reacting to things occurring on the viewscreen, which he considered to be "like watching someone else watch television"

Some complaints it had "too much special effects" too

It definitely look amazing on the big screen. I seen it some years ago for free and it looked amazing. Was thinking about seeing it again but it's just on to late for me. Maybe it's on at a better time on Sunday. Must have a look.

Is it the directors cut with the new CGI or the original being shown ?

The director cut with the new CGI is being shown in the cinema at the moment.

Yeah, this version in the cinema is that tighter edit.

I assume it's the same edit they had years ago in the standard definition Director's Edition. I've always liked the movie and still remember this version being a big improvement.

As long as it doesn't cut a single second of that almost 5min spacedock fly-by.

Exactly as that would sacrilege. That's the best spaceship flyby ever.
