HSE charge for admission

Whenever I have attended A&E without a GP letter I paid the A&E charge upfront and then claimed the money back from VHI (with my plan I get back 75%).

Do you not claim after attending a hospital visit with your policy?

I never give out my private insurance details in a public hospital, only in a private hospital. There's no point since you probably won't get a semi-private (nevermind private) room in a public hospital anyway. Or get transferred to a ward at all...

ill people with no means to pay, hardly rock up to a&e without gp referral, possible due to having little or no access to gp services, or poor gp services?

They would have a medical card.

something doesnt sit right with me in regards charging for access to services, i understand the logic of such charges, but are there any gray areas at all, where someone would fall through?

...oh im sure its common enough alright, as im fairly sure some who dont qualify for supports, such as some on the average industrial wage, or lower, simply cant afford a visit to the gp, and/or the admission fee, im sure it occurs more often than we d like to admit!

If someone doesn't have a medical card, and has no immediate means to pay they will be treated and billed the €100.

I have no doubt the HSE would accept €5 per week for 20 weeks if necessary.

I had to go to a and e last week in tallaght, 13 hour wait in a waiting room with drunks bashing each other but once I got seen the staff were great and helped me, it was well worth the 100euro considering a doctors appointment is 60, that’s the real rip off imo

People on reasonably good wages need to prioritise their spending.

....hahaha you gotta love it, so if you cant afford your rent, mortgage, escalating costs of living, health care needs, etc etc, its your problem! thats the solution!

...if some citizens are simply unable to provide themselves with some of their most critical needs such as adequate health care services, its a everybody's problem!

once again, what if some simply cannot afford this, and do not qualify for such supports, what happens to them?

...but again, what if they dont simply have the money, are simply unable to come up with it?

...and what if they cant afford that, is this method truly functional, is it a truly morally and ethically correct way to run and manage our health system?
