Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Feeding Between Pullet And Layer?

    Looking at getting some young bantams. Creamery, yesterday. Eyeballing chicken feed. Noticed there's 'Starter' and 'Layer' stuff? Protein levels are displayed. I'd imagine chick crumbs are smaller too?

    Thing is, I'm told not to expect these birds to do much till the other end of the year. I don't really care What they do, in honesty. They're not for industrial egg production. So, what might I be getting a sack of, for when they arrive, please?

    Up to about 16 weeks they should be fed starter, then move on to layers. There’s more protein in the starter food and less calcium. Too much calcium is not good for chicks apparently.

    When the chickens start to ‘squat’, they’ll soon start laying. You’ll know what a squat looks like when you see it. 😋
