Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Best way to pay someone for work

    Looking to get someone to work 2 or 3 days a week but wondering what's the best way to pay them without registering it with revenue etc.

    Looking to know what would be the most tax efficient method.

    Thinking I could give them a cheque made out to local petrol station which they could cash there. That wouldn't affect their welfare payment and allows me to expense it to the farm at the same time?

    They are on welfare you want to pay them by cheque made out to another entity. If you ever get audited it's fairy hard to explain. Technically you are colluding to defraud. Not only that you are giving revenue an excuse to force you to all PAYE owed by them.

    Pay them by cheque made our to them and let them cash it. If you ever get audited you just claim that your understanding was they were self employed. Other than that you pay cash and take the hit on the tax side.

    Try and find someone thru the books first. Any other messing is only a bollix and cash you pay income tax on.
