Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Flood cover needed for drawdown

    Struggling to find a company that will include flood cover in our house insurance. Worried we might not be able to drawdown without it as our estate is in an area that has a risk of flooding ( although it hasn’t flooded in the past 15years 🙄 but whatever)

    any advice or companies anyone knows of that could help with this issue

    Only advice is not to buy it. Your home is not something you want to be gambling with.

    Flooding is going to become more frequent and severe going forward.

    Do what you will with that information.

    Contact brokers, they're most likely to know which companies might provide cover, and have the contacts to work with.

    Having said that 15 years isn't a long time in the greater scheme of things for flooding..... regardless of insurance cover, it must be a horrendous experience, there's no way I'd consider a house that was at serious risk of it.

    I’d run. In fact I did run when we were in this situations ourselves. 15 years is nothing!

    The flood insurance situation is getting worse.

    I was looking at insuring a house in Alexandra Walk, Clane. Right on the Liffey. Another resident was able to get insurance as recently as late 2021 through a specialist broker. But as of Feb 2022 that's no longer the case.

    Dolmen use the UK underwriter Plum for flood insurance in areas other brokers won't touch. But it is about 4 times the price of regular home insurance
