I have just started an attic conversion and looking after it myself doing a lot of the donkey work and getting Carpenters, plumbers and Electricians as required.

Looking into the insulation at the minute and reading about the seai Grant's available. Is there any savings to be had by getting a contractor to do the insulation and claiming the grant or is it just as cheap to buy the materials and do it myself and obviously not be eligible for the grant?

If your time is free it will always be cheaper to do DIY. Material cost will be much lower than labour cost most likely.
